About this ebook

The Truce is a story about Hershey, a dog that moves from the city to a country neighborhood. Hershey is planning on living a peaceful life here, but he soon finds out that it will not be possible.
During his second day in the country, he meets Two-Too, the next- door neighbors rooster. Their first encounter is not a very pleasant one, so from then on, Two-Too decides to make life uncomfortable for Hershey.
Two-Toos deliberate daily taunting aggravates Hershey tremendously, but his kennel keeps him from doing anything to take care of this dilemma. Because of Two-Toos constant provocation, Hershey s demeanor begins to change, which worries his master.
His master tries to help Hershey feel better, so he moves him from the kennel to a new living area, which makes Hershey happier. Here he is able to move around more freely even though his collar is connected to a thirty foot cable that is tied to a basketball pole.
It is in this new place that Hershey attempts to take care of the aggravating problem on his own, giving Two-Too many close calls.
These scary, close encounters didnt discourage Two-Too from bothering Hershey though.
After many months of exhibiting despicable behavior toward Hershey and getting the scare of his life several times, Two-Too decides to come up with a plan for survival.
Read this entertaining short story, The Truce, to find out what Two-Toos plan for survival is.

Juanita Noyola Tobias

Juanita Noyola Tobías was born in Abram, Texas. She is the third child in a family of eight children. Her parents, Juan and Olivia Noyola, were poor migrant workers but always instilled in her and her siblings the importance of an education. She had a strong desire to go to college and pursue a degree in education, but she was not able to while at home with her parents because just like many other Hispanic children, she was expected to work after getting her high school education so that she could help out financially. Her dream became a reality when she was offered the opportunity of attending a local college. She graduated in 1979 with a degree in elementary education and worked as an elementary school teacher for many years. She really enjoyed working with all her students, teaching them to always work hard and never give up no matter how difficult the challenge. Juanita is now retired, but she is still working part-time since she has a passion for teaching. She has written this book, The Truce, because it is her desire to help children understand that bullying is not a way to handle problems.

To my precious grandchildren, Aralynn Xiomara and Gabriel Omar Tobías, who love visiting us and enjoy being around Hershey very much. It is likewise dedicated to all my future grandchildren, whom I am still waiting for.

Heartfelt thanks to my sister, Zita N. Wirsche, who has been very instrumental in making it possible for me to get this book published. Her help, encouragement, and suggestions are very much appreciated. I would also like to thank my friends and former colleagues, Maria Berta Guerra, Celinda Polito, and Maria Tristan for their positive feedback and the creative ideas they shared.
