Twist of Fate - Michael Belanger
CHAPTER 1
My Loving Family
While growing up, I had a loving family. My mom was a fourth grade teacher at the local elementary school. My dad was an owner of a landscaping company, every once in awhile, he would allow me to miss school, and go to work with him. These days were planned in advance, so that I could notify my teachers and get the homework for that given day. I did my homework in my dad’s office. It seemed like the only break I got from my homework was when he asked me to run an errand, like making and getting him copies. Every once in awhile, he would have me relay a message to one of his employees believe it or not this kind of made me feel like I was their boss as well. I believe that he was grooming me to take over his position when he decided to retire.
My dad spent most of his time at the office. But every once in awhile he would have to go to the job site. I liked this part because my father worked for people who had a lot of money, and a lot of the jobsites were the client’s personal residence. While my dad worked on their property, I would go exploring and imagine that I was the owner of these properties. When it was time to go he would honk and call my name.
On this occasion I made my way to the backyard. In the middle of the backyard was a pool about 10 feet behind the pool was the pool house. The pool house had a wooden door with a glass window. I began to wonder what was inside the pool house so I decided to investigate. I slowly crept up to the door and just as I reached for the door handle, I heard a thud. When I looked up I discovered a naked butt and some arms caressing the naked butt. Startled, I turned and ran towards the front lawn. I was screaming daddy, daddy, all the way. My father came running when he heard me call his name. When he finally reached me I was sitting on the ground grasping my wrist. I had tripped over the ladder, which was leaning up against the wall of the house. The painter was on break.
After making sure I was alright my father asked me why I was calling his name.
So, I explained to my father that I was exploring and what I saw. As soon as I finished explaining what I saw, a vehicle pulled into the driveway. It was Mr. Richards arriving home from work. My father took one look at me, and said, go sit in the truck I will be there in a minute. He slowly made his way to the vehicle where mister Richards was exiting and cordially shook his hands. They sat there discussing the property and towards the end of the conversation my father told him my story Mr. Richards demeanor quickly changed. All of a sudden Mr. Richards disappeared into the house but my father didn’t move an inch. I was puzzled but was in too much pain to ask. So I waited. A few minutes later, Mr. Richards exits the house and hands my father the Ice pack. Next they both start heading towards the truck only my father was heading towards the truck and Mr. Richards made his way to the sauna but before they split up my father thanked him for the Ice pack and apologized to the client for my being nosey and we got in the truck and left. As it turned out Mrs. Richards was having an affair with the painter and they were into each other so much that they never heard any of the commotion and were caught by surprise when Mr. Richards opened the sauna doors. Sometimes we would go to another job site and sometimes straight home. On this occasion we did neither, we went straight to the doctor office. My arm was not broken only badly sprained but I had to keep it in a sling for about a week.
Personally, I would rather have spent the day with my father than go to school. The only problem with going to work with my dad was that by the time I got home from his work I am normally exhausted. The following day I would tell my friends everything that happened that day. Especially, If my father and I went on a job site. This has kind of become a ritual. I would show up to school after being absent and my friends would Immediately crowd around me asking me questions about the days events.
Normally, my days are spent in school. My favorite subject is history. I just like to see how the leaders of our country and other countries accomplished their goals. My least favorite subject is math. I especially hate algebra. I never could figure out how a letter could equal a number. Lunch usually came about 11:30 in the morning. By this time I am usually starving.
My friends and I would sit around the table and talk. When the lunch was over we went back to class. I had Physical Education right after lunch. The only time I really liked Physical Education were days that basketball was being played. English Followed Physical Education. In English my problem was not coming up with Ideas to write about it was expanding those Ideas on paper. The Last period of the day was science. This is my best class. I believe the reason for this is all the exploring I do, while working with my dad. After school I would take a bus to the elementary school where my mother works. I would do my homework in her classroom. Once she was done grading papers and planning her next class we would go home. Sometime stopping for a bite to eat on the way. If my homework wasn’t finished when I arrived home I would have to finish it right away.
Once it was finished, I was allowed to play with my friends. We would either play video games or go outside and play basketball. My favorite types of video games were either the adventure of sports style video games. Usually, I had an hour to play video games but only about a half hour to play basketball. This was due to the fact that I had to shower after playing basketball and dinner was usually around 6 o’clock, and dinner was usually over by 7 o’clock. When 8 o’clock came around it was time for me to go to bed. So, you are probably asking yourself, where did it go wrong? What caused my twist of fate?
CHAPTER 2
