Author

Onaly A. Kapasi

Oni as he is fondly known does not believe that he is a poet but accepts that he loves writing poetry. Onaly A. Kapasi was born in Mombasa a sleepy coastal town in Kenya. He traveled to the U. S. A. from Nairobi, Kenya in 1975 on a Harvard Orthopaedic Fellowship to the Boston Children’s Hospital Medical Center. When asked he states that he is the real Boston Brahmin, having lived most of his adult life in Boston and for his love and value of the Vedic principles and heritage. He enjoys carrying out medical charity work in Boston, Africa and India where he is a co-sponsor and a frequent visitor to one of the AAPI’s free care clinic in the Himalayan town of Mandi.

    Chandermukhi, my wife

    Her skin white translucent alabaster

Her doe eyes an envy of the Buddha

Her gait that of a swan

Her lips petals of dark pink rose

    Proud as a peacock

    Gentler than a lamb

    Voice of the Koyal

Her breath a fragrance of musk

    Cascade of jet-black hair

Sparkle in the eyes, a glint of mischief

    Pearly white teeth

    Her heart-piercing smile*

    Is That God

In the quiet of my life I see with the eye of my soul

My mind reaches places my eye has not seen

There is bliss in the unknown land

Diffuse warmth of a different kind

I am face to face with Him

His light is in my soul, a million sparks all at once

I am not afraid as I and He are one for one timeless moment**

    Evolution

    Each turn I took

    Each new direction I chose

My destination seemed to elude me

I got near but unable to attain my goal

    My path became more arduous

    I relented but persevered

I prayed for the sight of light

But I only stumbled in darkness

One day I awakened to an inner truth

I relinquished what was not mine

I did not hold anyone liable

    I
