A Deeper Well

A Deeper Well is the culmination of a lifetime of seeking God. The journey of a penitent heart in turmoil, spent yet contrite, determined to find the perpetual peace that one can only find through a life surrendered to the creator. After being raised in a Christian home by a mother who was an ardent follower of Christ, I was baptized at age 14 and accepted the Lord Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I soon walked away from my Christian principles, and found myself desiring the things of the world. All my disappointments hurt and anger were tossed over the wall I built around my heart. Life became tumultuous and it took me years to realize that the wonderfully made me had disappeared, giving place to someone I no longer recognized. Something was missing.
In 1998 I migrated to Florida and was invited to church by my sister. I started attending services every Sunday, and became a regular tither. One night, while praying, I found myself sobbing. With a great sob and as if without my own effort, I was prostrate on the ground crying out to God. At that moment I surrendered my life to Him. The prayers and poems in A Deeper Well reflect my journey, the purging of my heart and finding my way back home to God. These poems are inspirations of situations and circumstances that I have encountered in daily life. The words are not my own, but the inspiration of the Holy Spirit who fills my thoughts and flows through my pen onto the pages. An awesome experience!

I would like to dedicate this book to my six beautiful and wonderfully made sisters:

Glo Cotton, the Gardner. All seeds must be planted and no leaves escape. Shirley Russell, the Homemaker, who makes all spaces beautiful. Jean Hall, the Giver, everyone shall receive. Kathy Hall, the Prayer Warrior, who fasts and pray for our salvation. Beverly Winstanley, the Driver, who loves the open road and has driven from Michigan to pick me up at the airport in New York, and Sandy Ruphy, the Rock, the baby of the family, who will not be swayed. I fit perfectly well between Beverly and Kathy.

Foreword

The Lord Jesus Christ uttered these words on the last day, the great day of the Feast He that believeth on me out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. St. John 7:38.

The poems and prayers in A Deeper Well are the out-flowing experiences of a heart anointed by the Holy Spirit, the personal struggles of a heart seeking to find the inner springs of a deeper relationship with God, but greater still it affirms the nature and character of God: his holiness, compassion, forgiveness, sovereignty; His omnipotence to create, provide, change lives and situations. It is an inspiration to worship God.

I have the distinct privilege of knowing Marie over these years and have enjoyed rich fellowship on a personal level and in the ministry of the Women’s Fellowship at our church. Her heart’s desire is to know God and experience him in every area of life and to bring others into that experience too. God has gifted her with this ability to express herself in poetry and she writes to honor him. This is her second book, the first was really a success and a blessing.

Poetry is a work of art painted in words, this is clearly seen in the prolific expressions and picturesque description woven together to present a beautiful picture in A Deeper Well.
