Monni Conley
Monni Conley has wanted a horse since childhood. When she was in the second grade, she won first place for a picture she painted of her dream horse. She started riding when she was eight years old but never had her horse. She studied horses, took many pictures of horses, until one day, when she was able to purchase her own horse. Now, she has three horses, including her quarter horse Haidus Lil Coco, from Texas. She has everyone’s heart. She rides several times a week, weather permitting. Her horses live at her home on the acreage and loves carrots given by all the neighbors. Monni has written articles and teaching manuals, but she loves writing for children, as she used to tell bedtime stories to her sons and daughter when they were small. Monni is a life coach and spiritual advisor, retired from Southern Bell telephone and Northwestern Bell.

Chapter%201.jpgChapter One
Lil Coco has her first mystery to solve. Lil Coco was grazing with her calf friends near the stream. Lil Coco saw a bush moving, she told her friends Betsy and Bo the calf friends, Wait here for me, I saw something moving in the bush.
Lil Coco started to make noises with the bush so the animal will come out of the bush.
The animal started running from the bush, it was fast, the little animal looked like a small horse. Lil Coco has never seen a baby horse. Lil Coco started running behind this little animal.
She ran so fast she stopped the little animal by pushing her to stop. Lil Coco whinnied at this little animal and it whinnied back at Lil Coco, surprising Lil Coco, this is a baby horse. Very small.
Lil Coco asked the baby horse, Can you talk.
Lil Coco was surprised this little baby horse can talk. Lil Coco felt like a big horse next to this small foal.
The baby horse said, I can talk, I am lost, I don’t know where I’m going.
Lil Coco could not believe someone could lose a baby horse, Lil Coco asked, Do you remember how you lost your Mother?
The baby horse replied, I don’t know, my Mother told me to hide and run quickly. I hid and when I came back, the whole herd was gone.
The baby horse looked so sad as she said, I miss my Mother and Father, I feel all alone.
Lil Coco said, Our family of humans will help us find your herd. You are my first mystery to solve.
The baby horse looked a little happier, thinking she would see her parents again.
The baby horse must have a name, Lil Coco thought to her self. Lil Coco asked the baby horse, Do you know the name your parents and humans called you?
She shook her head and said, No name, I just know the humans said I was an Arabian horse, I am a girl, a foal.
Lil Coco said, All horses here are American Quarter Horses, a different type of horse than you, we are all working horses. You are a different beauty.
The Arabian horse is the name of another breed of horses, Lil Coco is an American Quarter Horse. Lil Coco remembers seeing the Arabian horses race, at the race track, her father, Wind Racer was racing with the Quarter Horses. This is all she knew about Arabian horses, they can run fast.
The baby horse told Lil Coco, When I jumped into the water, a mountain lion was growling at me. The mountain lion ran away, they don’t like to get wet, I was scared.
Lil Coco remembered her meeting with a mountain lion. This is a scary meeting for any horse, or any small animal.
Lil Coco was wondering if there was someone looking for this baby horse.
Lil Coco was thinking about the way the baby horse showed up, in the stream. Someone or some thing brought her here. Lil Coco loves mysteries to solve.
Lil Coco had ideas how to find out how the baby horse ended on their property. Lil Coco wondered what happened to her parents. When did this happen, where did this happen, so many mysteries to solve, Lil Coco has to make a plan.
Lil Coco wanted to get started investigating, to help with this baby horse, she is so little. First, Lil Coco was ready to investigate. The human family will be ready to help her too.
Lil Coco was taking the baby horse to the herd, when the baby horse asked her,What is that dust coming our way
? Lil Coco saw the dust was caused by the four children of the ranch owners, on their horses, running towards them.
The children that lived at the ranch went to school in Talking Rock, Texas. They came to the stream, they had homework to do.
They all stopped in front of Lil Coco and the baby horse. The baby horse was scared at first, Lil Coco told her, Don’t be afraid of any humans at our ranch, I promise you will not be hurt by anyone here, these are the human children, lots of fun too.
All the children jumped off their horses, running to Lil Coco with the baby horse. They were so fast, the baby horse went behind Lil coco.
The children Peyton, Alexis, J.T., and Amanda started petting the baby horse and asked each other, Do you think we can keep her on the ranch?, she’s cute.
J.T. the only boy, answered, I am going to get Rusty to see what to do.
Rusty was the boss over all the cowboys on the ranch.
Rusty also rode Wind Racer, Lil Coco’s Father. Rusty rode Wind Racer at all the Quarter Horse Races. They always won The National Championship. Wind Racer is so fast.
The children took turns petting Lil Coco and the baby horse. It seemed a short time, and they fell in
