Author

Kathy Ann Powers Ogden

Raised in Texas as an air force brat and then moving to Nebraska in 1981, I’ve always had a love of reading, horses, rodeos and my family. In 2000, I discovered the love of writing and always wanted to be an author since. After 32 years of marriage to my husband and watching our only daughter grow up and go through her struggles, I found more inspiration to write romance stories of love, hope, faith and overcoming trials. Remember, there's always a lesson to be learned in every trial that comes your way.

OH NO! He didn’t CHAD! He storms to the back room.

There is a girl sleeping with his son. CHAD!!!

The blanket jumps. WHAT? Oh Dad, please don’t yell, not now.

Well, you’re going to be yelling. You’re hitched Son!… You are a married man!

What? He gets up, grabs the paper from his dad hands and reads it. Then looks at the women in his bed, then at the wedding band on his hand… He leaves it on.

India sits up. We got married last night.

    Chapter One

India is spending time with Bullrider, Chad Watch. He slides his sinful hands and arms around her waarm body, enjoying her virgin lips. India, I would be honored if you would watch me ride, then when I win, we can celbrate after the dances.

Chad even if you don’t win, we can still have fun. She kisses him with so much pleasure it sent his body into overload. Her thoughts races. Yes, you are perfect to be my husband. She stands in front of him.

India, how old are you? Chad lifts her chin to look into her green eyes.

I’m seventeen. She is drawn to his tense face and piercing blue eyes, then kisses him with all the come-on she can muster.

Honey, I’m twenty-six. Oh What the…. Embracing her, he covers her soft lips. Whem they come up for air, Chad studies India green eyes. You do know what Celebrate means to a cowboy, especially to this cowboy don’t you?

She raises her green eyes to him. Yes, you and I for one night.

Or two my wonderful Babe. You know, I like kissing your lips and touching your soft skin. India leans into him and moves her hands around Chad. So Cowboy, are you going to Just hold me, or are you going to kiss me? She licks her soft lips.

Chad leans her over in his strong arms. Both, my Beautiful Woman.

Her heart races as Chad pulls her closer to his hard body.

India gasps in surprise. Oh my, you’re fast and strong.

Honey, you’ll find out tonight just how fast and strong I really am. He pushes his hat Back, covers her passionate moist lips to let her feel his deepest fantasy about her.

One of Chad’s old acquaintances interrupts the heated moment. "Chad, she looks like a Rare treasure. She’s too good for you. Long coal black hair, deep green eyes. Yup, I’ll bet She’ll make a husband out of you someday. Turning his attention to India, Grant advised.

Sweetheart, don’t wait to long for him to give you a commitment….

Grant! Chad smiles meaningful at India. Don’t let us keep you.

OK, OK, I get the hint, She’s yours. Grant shuffles off.

Chad brushes the bangs out from her eyes. Oh yes, you are a rare treasure my India, but You know I’m not ready to be a husband. He touches her arm. Honey, would you like to stay here or go with me?

She takes his hand. I’ll go with you. Strolling with his arm around her, India breathed in the scent of his aftershave.

India, where in this parking place is your truck?"

I parked it right there. It’s the red one with the blue stripes that match your blue eyes.

Holding out his hand, Chad asks. Well, could I have your keys? I would like to park it next to my trailer. India grins recognizing urges that don’t want to wait for tonight. She put the keys Behind her back. You want the keys, my keys? Well Big Boy, come and get them.

Oh India, you for get how short and tiny you are next to me. With one hand he reaches behind her and pulls her tightly to his muscled chest and the other hand takes the keys.

Chad parks her truck beside his trailer. Honey, are you hungry?

    Yes! I am Famished.

Good, you can fix lunch while I get ready. She can’t help but watch him change his clothes, as she tries to fix the food. She feels he body overheat just by him standing next to her.

The feel of his breath sends flames into places she didn’t want to think of just yet, even places she didn’t know existed.

Two pieces of bread and lunchmeat. India said handing the sandwiches to Chad. How hard can that be?

He takes the plate and puts it down, picks India up and takes her to the bedroom.

Chad, I want to wait until tonight.

We will. I just want to lie here next to you. I promise I won’t try anything.

India lays her head on his soft fuzzy chest, relaxes to the sound of his beating heart.

Running his fingers through India’s hair Chad grins. Are you comfy?

Yes! She answers with a dreamy and relaxed sigh.

Later Chad finds himself longing to lie next to her always, and wanting to do more-much more with her, but for now he’s perfectly content with watching her rest. With blazing blue eyes Chad looks from her sleepy face to her beautifully formed body, then at the clock. India, Honey, it’s time to get up. He softly tickles her belly. India gets the giggles. Hey! That tickles, Chad! I will get you back!

Gently sitting on her, he gives her a kiss. My India, My Woman, tonight I’ll give you so much pleasure, you’ll aways come to see me when you want to over heat. He switches from tickling to more kisses while his hands caress her body. Honey, your skin is like velvet, I’ll bet your whole body is like velvet.

India smiles an innocent but a mysterious smile. You’re pretty sure of yourself. Well Cowboy, tonight you’ll just see exactly how velvety I feel. She kisses him while her hands dances over his body.

Chad grins. I suppose you had better let me up, because I have a bull to ride! Chad Moves to her side and wispers in her ear. Then you my woman. The searing heat of his Whispers warms her insides again as he gets up and rushes to the other room for a different shirt.

India whispers under her breath. Yeah, with you as my husband. She calls out. Chad, Are we going to the dance? He steps back into the room looks at her and declares, You’re NOT having ANY dranks!

No, I just want iced tea. Oh Chad, you look very handsome.

And you look like a delicious dish, I’ll enjoy you for desert, tonight. He holds his hand out to help her up but keeps looking into her green eyes, but for what he doesn’t know… maybe encouragement. They walk to the grandstands where they are to meet Chad’s brother Cody who is already preparing to ride. Cody is frozen in his tracks and stare wild eyed as he hears Chad talk to India. Honey, look at me, I want you to sit where you can watch me ride and I can see you before I get on the bull.

Cody can tell that India has already staked her claim on his older brother as her own. He’s sure she’s trapping him. Stepping back, Cody grabbed his cell phone and calles his dad.

India gazes into his blue eyes. Chad, I want you to pay attention to the bull you draw. She hugs him as her mind plays on. I have plans tonight, to make you feel that you can’t live without me. .

I’m yours in every way, no matter what Cowboy. The soft touch of her lips makes him wish it was night fall already.

Chad pushes his hat back, India, you’re torturing me, but that’s ok, pay back will be my pleasure tonight. He whispers close to her ear, she blushes at his words. With a mischievous grin, she takes Chad’s hat off and slips it on for size. He picks her up off her feet.

Woman, you just sealed our fate for tonight! Then he covers the lips that he’s beginning to know so well, ignighting a torch. Slowly lowers her back onto her shaky feet.

Oh! She softly sighs as she chews her lower lip, with the fire of desire in her eye’s.

India returnes the hat to Chad’s head then watches him walk away. Cody stands still watching India wondering what is she wanting and what is her motive…?

India sits down to watch the bull riding thinking to herself. Only as your wife Chad!

Cody catches up with his older brother. Hey Chad! What’s up with you and the pretty green- eyed girl? He watches his big brother smirk.

Nothing. Chad replies. I just plan to make her night very intense.

Reaching into his shirt pocket Cody hands Chad a package. Make sure you use this.

Chad took the package and put it in his pocket. I’ll be her first ever Cody, but thanks.

As time and the moon moves on, so does the Bullriding. It ended with Chad winning first place as well as the Champion buckle and Cody in second place. India, Chad, and Cody went to the dance, as the night went on, Chad carelessly places his earnings on the table. He bought everyone rounds. India every once in a while, puts handfuls of his cash in her pocket. Couds built up and a thunderstorm cuts the night short. Another storm rages in India’s heart as Chad and Cody finish a six-pack. Then they all head back to the trailer.

Cody grins at a very unsteady Chad. Good night Chad. India.

Chad looks at India, then at Cody, then at his boots. He stands unsteadily and smiles sheepishly. Good night Baby Brother, do you need help to your trailer?

Cody looks wonderingly at India. No, I’ll just follow you, but do you need help?

Chad stops in his tracks to hold onto a chair back and looks at Cody then at India. He Gives her a kiss and shakes his head. Nope.

India and Chad walk arm in arm to the door of the trailer. Chad turns her around for a kiss.

India has to say what’s on her mind. This is her only chance to ask. Chad, will you marry me, I mean right now?

Chad looks at her at arms length, belches loudly kisses her on the cheek. Well yeah, I know a place where we can go, but you’ll have to drive because I’m too drunk.

OK. She stands on her tiptoes to kiss his lips. They get into his truck and drove the forty-five minute drive to Las Vegas. As Chad dozes, India thinks about her little sister Ashley and hope Chad will help get her out of her moms abusive environment. Her mind drifts back to a time when she and Ashley could laugh and sing with their Papa. Once they senked downstaires during a party for the Primeminister of Spain. Oh how handsome he looked to a girl at the rip age of nine! Ashley tucked the tablecloth in her Pj’s to use as a napkin then she took a bite out of the side of the cake. She saw their nanny and tried to run but the tablecloth stopped her for only a second. The cake started to slide and I tried to catch it but it was bigger then me. I thought Papa was going to kill us. That was the last time we were in our home in Spain because we had to go back to France for school. Boy! Mamma was steamed at us for weeks about the party incident, but Papa just laughed about it. He said the Primeminister was charmed with us girls.

India’s mind continued to drift on with moist eyes. In another time. Papa took Ashley and me on a Safari in South Africa (against mama’s wishes) to transport some African Lion cubs that their mother had left behind when she died. There were only three reported, but we found five.

Where the other two came from? God only knows. Ashley and I made sure the rangers found four.

We wanted one for a pet, so Ashley and I made a plan. Ashley would distract Papa and the others while I would snatch the small one. We pulled it off, for six weeks we kept Sheba in our room. One day, mama was attending a Society Function and something happened to make Papa say,

‘Sheba Needs to find a new teething toy!’ Papa showed us his new briefcase. Then he told us that if Sheba got to big for us to handle we should just let him know, and we’d take her back to the park where she’d live in safety.

Sheba would travel with us on our plane and she’d wait by the door for Papa to come home from work. Later Sheba would crawl onto his lap and listen to the bedtime story that Papa would tell us each night. Mama always said he loved that big cat and that big cat loved him too.

We had her for four wonderful years..

India wips her tears and sighs. Papa, I hope I’m doing right for us. When she parked in front of the wedding chapel, she reaches over to touch Chad’s arm. Chad, we’re here.

Chad wakes up looking around. Oh, so we are. Well let’s get hitched. He looks at the hand that he is holding. I need to get you a wedding band, Honey.

You need one too. Adjacent to the wedding chapel is a gift shop.

They go in and choose plain gold bands. The wedding is short. They come out married.

Chad looks at India. With plain speech, to the point. For better or for worse.

Chad, I plan to be a good wife to you.

I know you will. He holds her hand as she drives off into the dark night. They make small talk, until he drifts off to sleep. Indias mind drifts back into the time when her and Ashley’s world got turnd upside down. On the morning before the fire that killed him…Papa, opening The bedroom door, letting Sheba pounce on us getting us up for school. Oh Papa, do you have to go to Japan? Ashley asked for a doll to add to her collectio. Tears start to drop when she remembers The feeling of her Papa’s hand on her head, and his voice saying ‘I love you girls, Oh yes I love You to Sheba’. Papa pats the big cat’s head.

Chad, my handsome bridegroom, we are here. With a groggy voice. OK, my sweet bride.

He takes her inside, lays their marriage licenes on the table, then sweeping his new bride up into his arms, he takes big cowboy steps all the way to the bed he will sleep in with others on more. He puts her on her feet and turns on a soft lamp. With slow hands and a racing heart, he lowers the blouse she has on, lavishing bare shoulders for him to kiss.

Chad, Teach me how to give you pleasure as a wife to her husband.

He is gentle and patient with his bride teaching her all through the night.

    –––––––––––––

In the early morning light, the rodeo grounds come alive in the headlights of a big blue truck pulling in. A giant of a man steps out and walks into the trailer. It’s still dark inside. Mitch takes a look around trying to adjust his eyes. "It’s six. O’clock. The timer on the coffee pot goes off and the smell of strong coffee welcomes him to his son’s kitchen. A piece of paper there on the table, catches his eyes as he sips his coffee. He picks it up and reads it.

Then looks at the women in his bed, then at the wedding band on his hand…He leaves it on.

India sits up. We got married last night.

Chad glares at her. Yeah, you waited until I was drunkand spent all my winnings.

No, you have all but one hundred forty-three dollars. You bought the rings, the license, three rounds of beer, my tea.

Chad looks at his father. Dad, can you undo this?

India starts to cry. Chad, we shared fire and pleasure; You told me that meant a lot to you. She raises her wet eyes towards him. It didn’t did it?

Chad sheepishly grins. Oh, I remember. I wasn’t that drunk.

Mitch is catching on. But to drunk to use your head about marriage! He turns his attention to the girl. India, how old are you?

She lowers her eyes. I’m seventeen.

My son here is a county Deputy, and I’m a Supreme Court Judge. I suppose you married him for his money/

No. I thought he was a rancher just getting by. He drives a ’79 Ford. But if you want me to leave then I will. She looks up at Chad. Pleading through her tears. I was planning to be a good wife to you.

In dispair, chad looks at India. Why India? Why Me? Then to his dad. You can get this undone, right Dad?

His dad just stands back to listen to their plea’s for each other.

I did because you treated me with kindness. Then she looks at the man she married.

Chad, I fell in love with you, the instant you said Hi.

He turned with speed. I don’t want you in love with me, just gone.

Through her sobs. All Right: I’ll leave! She turns her back on him with tears dropping.

Good! He turns to his father.

India, with her back turned to get dressed. I loved last night Chad.

The Judge sees her back, it’s not as pretty as the rest of her body. She has red scares across her back. Mitch points to her for Chad to look. The sight makes him angry. He moves fast latching onto her arms. It scared her so that she droped his robe. Chad catches it and puts it on her.

India, who put those marks on you?

Chad, you’re squeezing my arms. What do you care? You just want me gone. You think a girl is just a sleeping toy for you. Well we’re not. We sleep with you, because we think you care about us, but you cowboys don’t know how to care. Or are just too selfish. I bet you are all a like, every one of you men on God’s green earth.

Look India…. Chad holds her shoulders and blocks the doorway.

    I’m leaving… You don’t want me!

    WHO? Chad jiggle her.

My step-father. She sits down crying too hard to stand.

The judge’s fatherarly heart takes over; India, is that why you trapped Chad?"

Yes, I like his way… I thought he liked me, but I can see it was only for one night.

Mitch glances over to Chad. Son, did you…

    No!

Not blinking a eye. So, she could be…

Chad snap. Yes, she could be caring my child, I know that Dad.

Chad, I have a sixteen year old sister, I need your help getting her out of that house before Ace trys more, Chad, could you hand me my purse please?

He swings the purse towards India. Here.

Thanks. She pulls out a photograph of very pretty girl.

Chad takes it. She looks to be eighteen. Then hands it to his father.

Her name is Ashley. India addresses the judge. If you help me, I’ll leave and you can have your money, unless Chad, wants to give us a try. She looks toward Chad. Just six week, please.

He turns on her. Woman, you’re not going any place until I know whether you’re pregnant or not.

What was that? Did India see a spark of hope in the possibility of a child in his eyes?

Get dressed India. He turns away from her, following his father out the bed room trying not to let his grin show. I can’t believe I’m in this mess. He pours himself a cup of coffee.

Son, it’s legal and you’re going to stay as her faithful husband. She’s right. You think girls are just to sleep with, and they are not. If she leaves, do you realizes you could be facing a lost job and statutory rape charge?

Yes Dad, I’m a cop, believe me, I know what I stand to lose. He takes a sip of his coffee.

    So, she is my wife?

His dad is beginning to see through him. Chad, you’re hoping there’s a baby. I saw that spark in your eyes.

Yes Dad, with all that we shared last night, there had better be but I’m not going to tell her.

Chad, you like her spit fire personality and her in your bed, don’t you?

Chad not saying a word just grins as he walks back to the bedroom. He makes no sound while standing watching India hold his pillow crying. India, I’ll make an effort in this trap of yours just until I know if there is a baby. He grabs her and looks into her green eyes. "You had better be all mine.

You will be home before me and help my mom with supper. Cody’s gal doesn’t lift a finger to help our mom. He takes in the aroma of her cologne and likes it. You will help her, I will come and go as I please. You will not boss me around. I’m the Man of this trap of a marriage. India just hugs him. Chad, are you afraid that I’ll find someone else?"

No, you got what you wanted… That’s the least of my worries.

With softness. Husband, I’ll always be yours.

India, don’t get to comfy. He walks out with her behind him.

You’re going to be mad at me for sometime, aren’t you?

Yes. He turns to faces her. I don’t like being roped into things.

I won’t do that again. I wish you could try to love me. Maybe some day? She searches his blue eyes for some answers that she wants.

Oh India, we just met and got married all in eighteen hours. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Cody is taking your truck to gas up so you can drive it home. You’ll just have to follow me and try to keep up.

All right. Chad, could you just hold me like you did last night? She reaches for him.

He steps back raising his arms. Don’t ask. They way I feel right now.

Fine! It’s a good thing I’m driving my own truck. You can’t handle the fire that rages in you for me. She steps past him OH! Woman! He just grabs her pinning her against the wall covering her lips with his.

She is right. He feels the raging fire that only she has ever put into him and that makes him Furious. It’s her he wants and hungers for. He feels her tiny hands around his waist. "I can to….

Just as long as I’m at work. Right now, there’s nothing stopping me from taking my wife back to bed and turning up the heat. Then you’ll find out how I can control even you little women." He enjoys her lips while their hands explore. With passion, he kisses her more deeply.

Cody calls from the front door. Chad, we need to go.

Ok. Now, my wife, think about that while you’re following me.

Chad, won’t you think of me?

Probably, of what I’ll do to you when I get you home. Chad leaves her standing as he helps Cody and their dad get ready and hitch up. Chad checks the oil in India’s truck. It’s two quarts low, Cody, get me some oil.

OK. Cody walks by grabbing it out of the truck bed and handing it to Chad. Chad, dad said India is your wife. Just then India steps out into the sun. Chad is watching her. Yes.

OH BOY, Grant wanted a shot with her.

Well, Grant is too late. She nabbed me. She’s mine.

Boy, you act like you you care and you like having one permanent woman in your life.

Cody, she could be pregnant. In the heat of the passion, I couldn’t stop, I didn’t want to stop, so for the baby, if there is one, I’m going to try.

Chad. India had stepped over unnoticed. He feels the warmth of her hand on his arm.

    There’s no baby. Not yet.

There will be. I want a child out of all of this. Your truck is ready to go.

    * She looks surprised but gets into her truck and tells herself. "Chad wants a baby, with me?

Well, I’ll give him one or two." She follows them down the road onto I-80.

India has kept up for most of the day, when the truck just dies. She coast it over onto the shoulder. She becomes frantic as Chad and the others move on down the road out of sight.

It’s 90 degrees outside and is becoming hotter inside. She lies down inside the hot truck. She tried to fight the sleepiness. She knows she could dye in this heat. I wonder whether any one will care.

Chad, I love you. Her eyes drifed shut.

Chad knows she is in trouble. So does Cody, he had driven India’s truck. Cody radios Chad. Hey, the windows on her truck don’t go down. She can die in this heat, and I know you like her.

With heavy traffic, Chad is still looking for a place to turn around. I do. He pulls into the median right through the grass and heads back towards his wife, with his dad and brother right behind.

He pulls up behind her, rushes to her truck and tries the door. It’s locked. India, India. He panics when he sees her just lying on the seat. Cody, bring me the crowbar. The door is locked, I’ll have to….

Cody just reaches past him. Or just use the key to open the door. The old set where ready to brake so I had a set made. He steps out of the way. As Chad grabs his wife. India, Wife. Honey! Dad, why won’t she rspond to me?

Their dad responds. Cody, is she breathing?

Cody checks her pulse. I didn’t think she was in there that long. Yes Dad.

Chad grips her tighter with fear on his face. Dad, why won’t she wake up?

Mitch has to keep a cool head Chad’s not. Son, get her inside the trailer and lay a cold rag on her. Remember, you said some harsh words.

There in the trailer, Chad looks at the beautiful woman in his arms. It’s plain to his dad that Chad is in love with his wife. Chad’s thoughts race as he stands there holding her. I was in love with her before I got on the bul to win, I can’t let anyone know that my heart is hers.

Come on. What would they think? Or what would she think?"

Chad, let go of her, so she can rest on the couch. Their dad advises.

Yeah, I told her I want a baby with her.

India feels a cold rag. Chad, you came back for me.

Oh My Woman, I wasn’t leaving you. I had to find a place to turn around.

Cody hands Chad another rag to place on her head. She tries to sit up. He places a Firm hand on her shoulder. No, you lay still.

Chad, I’m…Oh, I’ll just be still. Chad helps her to lie back down.

Mitch can see that Chad is about to lose his control. I’ll sit with her Chad. You and Cody go see what’s wrong with her truck?"

OK, Dad. As the two young men leave, India realizes that their dad wants to talk to her.

He waits until the door is closed. Recognizing that she is nervous, he speaks gently.

Child, I don’t approve of what you did, but I also understand why you roped Chad into this marriage. He makes eye contact. "You had Chad scared. He won’t admit it, but he cares for you. .

India, you have my support, I’ll do my best to get Ashley out. But India, I want your word that You’ll be true to my son and to yourself."

Why? Chad is a wonderful man. It’ll be easy to stay true to him. Of course I will.

Cody has a gal that likes the finer things in life, but he keeps seeing her.

I like the finer things in life too, like a home, a bed, a man to love and respect.

India, did you think that marrying Chad would make all the pain go away?

Yes. He’s so gentle. He was so attentive to me last night. We have a chance if he would just try to like me like he did yesterday.

Yesterday, he liked you for one thing…. Not to be alonge last night. Mitch takes a deep breath hopping his words are wrong. Hopping that he read his son right, hopping that Chad does need and want India for life. Then he continues. Having you as a wife or anyone as a wife never crossed his mind. But Child, there’s always hope in God. The door interrupts his grin as Cody, and Chad comes back in."

Chad stands next to his wife India. The motor is shelled. We’ll come back to haul it home later. He drops his hand to her shoulder. India, are you up to going home?

She looks at the man she married, her father-in-law’s words echoing in her mind.

‘There’s always hope in God.’ With you?

Chad is caught off guard. He looks at his dad then over to his brother. Yes, with me You are my wife now.

Yes. She softly grip his hand to stand up. Then she hugs their dad. My Papa would have liked you. You’re a lot like him."

In Chad’s truck, they’re on their way hom. Chad is tendearly holding India’s soft, tiny hand. When he asks How do you feel?"

    I’m kind of sore.

    It’ll pass.

Husband, can I go watch you ride?"

"Why? You don’t trust me? Don’t worry, I will not be carousing, India, I never cheated on a gal, I’m certainly not going to cheat on you. Even if you waited until I was drunk.

I was raised ‘for better, or for wose,’ I’m not too thrilled with the idea, but in God’s eyes, you are my wife."

Chad, I do trust you. I also like to be with you. She looks down at her torn shoes. I’ll stay home though, if that’s what you want from me."

Chad felt a tear land on his wrist. He let her hand go then reaches towards her faces. First she flinched, then she relaxed as she realizes that he is wipping her tears You can go with me, you are my legally bound wife. And no, I won’t go looking for others. You’ll be enough trouble to keep me on my toes. He takes her hand back. Besides, I have you at night. He thinks about last night, and just how velvety she really is.

She just sighs and look sadly out the wondow until Chad invites her to lay her head on his lap. India sleeps for the rest of the quiet ride.

India feels the truck roll to a hult. She opens her eye’s to see a two story home.

We are here. Chad gets out, shuts the door, and starts to walk.

His dad reprimands him; "Chad, No matter how, in God’s eyes. She is still your wife.

Show her some respect. She’s had some hard times. Remember her back?"

Dad, I’ll never forget it. He hurries to her side of the truck. He gives a embarrassed smile. Takes her hand into his, then ambles to the porch and into the house Their Mom Sandy greets them, Chad makes the proper introduction; Mom, this is my wife India. Showing no surprise. Sandy greets her new daught-in-law with a hug.

Welcome, excuse me supper is done.. Sandy strolls into the kitchen to check on the supper.

Then Jesse, Cody’s girl stands up. So, this is the little child that caught you off guard last night. She turns towards India. You just remember…

Jesse, just keep your forked tongue still. You will not threaten my wife, ever!

Remembering what Chad had told her, India takes one look at Jesse, in her fancy clothes the fine jewelry. Look Twit, my husband could loose everything in this world and he would still have me. I don’t need fancy trinkets like you obviously do.

Cody, are you going to allow her to sass me?

Yes. Cody shrugges and ambles into the kitchen. Mom, whats for supper?"

Chad puts a strong arn around India’s waist. India, you be a lady and set a good example for others. I know you can. And as for you Jesse, my wife has more pull then you do because she is my wife. His voice softes as he loweres his gaze; Now, India, I’ll show you to your room.

MY ROOM!! Now look here Chad! With her index finger to his breastbone. She backs him up to the wall near the stairs. We are married. If I can’t share the same bed with you then I’ll just leave!!

Well then, little girl, there’s the door. Don’t let it…

Jesse get! She had followed them to the stairs.

Chad starts to think. ‘I can’t lose this woman.’ Chad grins down at this spitfire, green eyed gal standing before him. I’ll show you to OUR room. They stroll up the stairs. India is looking at the family pictures on the wall as they climb to the top down the south hall and to the right.

Chad opens the the bedroom door.

Oh Chad, it’s lovely. She touches the big foot broad and feels him looking at her.

Honey, it’s just a bedroom. He stretches out onto the bed reaching for her.

She advance into his arms, relaxing as she looks into his deep blue eyes. Hi.

Hi. He covers the lips he’s been wanting to feel, as they snuggle on the bed.

Does this mean you’re not mad at me and we’ll make it?

    Not hardly.

She tries to get up, but he has her pinned comfortably. Now listen, I have every right to be mad. You waited until I was snockered before you dragged me to the altar.

I did not drag you, you walked on your own two feet.

Chad notices the sadness in her voice. Honey, what is it?

My sister and I had to sleep in a cold, damp basement. It was dark, those were Ace’s rules, but mom stood by him. She wipes her tears. She told me once that she allowed him to whip on us because she was thankful that he married her with two brats. She looks at Chad. I’m blessed that you didn’t tosses me out. You let me come here to your home, with you.

Chad just folded her into his arms. He hadn’t seen her so vulnerable before. He began to realize that there is more to her then he had thought and starts to see her in a different light of things. He wants to assure her. Honey, this is your home too. I’ll be true to you, and I for one will never raise a hand to hurt you. Just give me some time, OK?

She give him a weak smile. All right.

Chad looks at his watch then his wife. Honey, I have to get up, Cody and I have to go pick up some bucking bulls yet this afternoon….

    Can I go?

No, Jesse doesn’t even go. Holding hands they walk down the stairs.

We are ready and waiting on you. It was Jesse.

India started to answer. You don’t…

Chad cuts in. Jesse, my wife will be going. You’ll stay here.

    Why should I?

Look, you don’t even go with Cody to the rodeos. At least My wife is interested in what I do. Now, if there’s a problem, then just India and I will go!

    Jesse looks for support. Cody.

Chad, we can squeeze four in.

No, we are taking the ford. Chad grabs India’s hand and hustles out the door towards the truck. He is still steaming.

Chad, do you want me to stay here?

No I don’t! That woman is the one and only reason why I know I don’t need or want a wife." He opens the door for India.

With a tear tricking down her cheek. She stops to look up into his blue eyes. Chad, I’m not like her.

He sees the hurt that he has put into her green eyes and he knows it. Yeah, I’m starting to find that out. He motions to the open door.

Cody is trotting towards the parked truck.

Jesse yells to him. Cody, if you go with them, I will not be here when you come back!

Good! He jumps in and smiles sheepishly.

Chad shacks his head. I love you little brother, but that twit has to go. You can do better then her.

But I guess I love her.

But do you think she loves you?

I don’t know. Why are you talking? You two are together and you two don’t love each other.

But we like each other and that is a start. I want him to remember that he has a wife waiting at home. She squeezes his hand gently.

So are you really interested in what Chad does, or are you just wanting to get Jesse mad?

Chad is my husband, Therefore, I’ll support him as much as I can. She looks at the man holding her hand. I believe in you Chad.

Boy, I wish Jesse would feel that way for me. Do you think you two will work out?

Chad clears his throat. I promised India, I would give this marriage an honest try. I know she will. They pull into the yard of their cousin, the sheriff Markcus as they back up to the gate and park. Markcus comes out of the house, while India gets out with Chad and Cody.

Hi Chad. Markcus admires those green eyes of India’s as she walks to the pen.

Hi Markcus, did you have a safe trip? Chad makes small talk.

Just fine, mighty fine. He’s having a hard time keeping his eyes from staring at India.

They walk to the fences, Cody comments. Chad, you didn’t say much on the trip down here.

I’ve been doing some thinking about what she was saying. Chad looks straight at Cody. Making his point clear. Cody, the next time you get rude towards India, I’ll smack you.

All right. Boy are you touchy, but I’m sorry. Cody really is.

Chad sees Markcus checking his wife out, and she is getting a tad bit nervous. Hey, Markcus, that pretty green eyed babe is my wife, India, Honey, meet our cousin Markcus.

He smirks. I’m also their boss. Your Wife? Since when?

Last night. India smiles. I waited until he was three sheets to the wind, then I asked him to marry me. He said yes. Now here we are. At this point she is beaming.

Well, I can see how a pretty gal can rope a big guy like you, but man, is she pretty! Are you sure you didn’t get her drunk?

    Markcus! The bulls. Now!

Markcus smiles at India. Honey, I would have married you cold sober.

    Markcus! Lets just get the bulls loaded;

India pursues the men into the corral. Cody can’t believe his ears. He turns around to see her trying to shoo a bull. He gets Chad’s attention then points at her Chad looks, takes a deep breath, and hurries to her cautiously. He grabs her and speaks softly but very seriously; You go out slow, the same way you come in and stay outside the fence.

Chad, I’m not afraid, just like you. She notices his piercing blue eyes.

India, you just put mt heart in my throat. These bulls are not pets. They demand respect, or they will take it. Now, please go!" Chad keeps himself between his wife and the bull.

At this point she knows he has put himself in danger because of her. I’m sorry Chad.

She steps out and climbs the fences to watch her knight in shining armor load up the bulls. Her thoughts drift back to their honeymoon last night. In time as the eight bulls are loading up. They’re back on the road. India reaches for Chad’s hand. Husband, I’m sorry for frighting you."

Yeah, you told me once. He kisses her hand. He’s lost in his own thoughts. That Markcus! I didn’t like the way he was looking at my wife. Why did I wait so long to tell him; That she was my wife? What am I going to do when a good looking cowboy comes near her? Am I going to explode on them or am I just going to laugh? Who am I kidding? I wanted to shove him away from her and protect my wife. He looks down at his belly haning over his belt. Of all the cowboys coming around her. She picked me to be her husband. His mind gets back to driving as he is pulling into the home yard. As he turns off the engin then turns to his brother. cody, you’ll have to get Jesse out of our home or India and I will go up north. I’m not putting up with her any more.

India worries; Chad, is that fair? Your parents…

Cody jumps into the conversion. No they don’t.

I want them to get to know you, as my wife, without aggression from Jesse.

Oh Chad. She wraps her arms around him.

All right, Chad, I’ll send her packing. I’ve been fed up with her lately anyway.

Surprised at his own senes of relief, Cody gets out and walks up slowly to the house.

Chad, can I go with you to unload?"

He turns from watching his little brother to back at her. He takes her hands off of him and moves away a bit and starts to pace. Woman! Why do you have to be such an eye catcher?

I don’t mean to catch anyone else’s eyes. I just want yours.

Woman, you’ve had me watching every move you made, from the moment I saw you get out of your truck. He takes a short pause. I didn’t think I would stand a chance with you..

That’s funny. She looks at him. I didn’t think you would care for me. You’re so handsome, cute, Oh and your wonderful deep blue eyes… Last night you taught me how too give pleasure to you as you did to me. India watches Chad with pride.

Chad is pacing more, as he gives thought to what she said.

Honey, are you angry at me?

No, I’m angry at myself for letting a seventeen year old get to me like you do. He stands in front of her. The bulls are getting about as restless as he is. More over. You’re going with me. His hands move on her arms falling into her green eyes, and grins… To unload.

They drive off to the north over some cattle gates driving to a high hill, where he parks the truck.

India looks over the dash to the wonderful scenery of the land. Oh Chad, it’s breath taking up here.

Not as breath taking as the view I’m looking at.

Suddenly, she feels warm. India sees sparks in his deep blue eyes and knows he is talking about her. She gets out and stays behind him. Chad opens the trailer gate. She wraps her arms around his waist. The eight bulls come out slow and mosey away with been- here-done-that lazy attitudes. Chad closes the gate. Then he reaches for his wife. In silence they walk to the other side of the truck. He opens the door.

Chad, what are we going to do?"

With passion in his eyes. "My Wife, we are going to rock this truck.’ He lifts her onto the seat then steps up to possess her lips, for starters.

Back at the house, Cody shuffles into the kitchen. Mom, did Jesse leave like she said she would?

Yes Cody. She said she can’t be in the same house as a child, but she asked if you would call her. With a mothers care she watches Cody sits down at the table with a cup of coffee Yeah, I just might. He sips his coffee. Mom, India said some thing today that made sense, but how does a seventeen year old know stuff? I’m twenty-five and I don’t know that stuff.

From experiences. From what your father tells me, she has whip scars. Can you tell me what she said? Sandy is cutting the lettuce and other salad ingredients.

OK, I told them that I think I love Jesse, and India asked if Jesse loves me? You know Mom, I don’t think we do. If we do, it’s different, not like Chad and India’s love.

Speaking of your brother and India, where are they now?

He starts to laugh. They went to unload the bulls. Mom, she got right in there with us trying to move a bull…

I hope Chad got her out.

Oh he did. He was scared. No one can tell me that Chad don’t care for India.

Sandy points to the top shelf. Please reach the big white bowl for me?

Surre Mom. At six foot five, he reaches for the bowl like reaching for candy.

    Thanks.

Cody snatches a sliced tomato. "You know, Mom, I think Chad found real love.

And he doesn’t even know it."

Sandy looks up at him. Why do you say that?

Mom, Chad fell for India way before they got married. You should have seen him, the way he treated her. She would tell others that she belongs to Chad. Chad would just look at her with, well Mom, it’s like she put something in him.

Could it be pride, Cody?I know he thinks he’s over weight but he’s not. That’s just the way the good Lord made him.

This time Cody took half of a tomato. As soon as he met her, Chad kept her close to his side. With other gals, he didn’t care if they came or went. Why, he never let them inside the trailer unless it was for…, Well, he took India with him to get some feed. He saw India get out of her truck. Chad turned to me, and said ‘I’ll have that pretty coal black hair babe. One way or another.’ He approached her and talked all day. Now she is his wife.

Are the going to be back in time for supper?

Sure, Mom. He kissed her cheek. Chad’s belly will remind him.

The next moment India and Chad come into the kitchen. Can I help?

Yes, Child, you can open a bag of corn. It’s in the freezer. Then you can heat it up on the stove.

Ok. As India walks to the porch, she feels her husband watching her. She hears scuffing in the kitchen, when she comes back with the bag in hand.

Boys, boys, not now! Do I get your father?

No, Mom. Chad just laughs and grabs Cody by the head.

India, winks at her mother-in-law then slides the frozen bag under Chad’s shirt.

OH Woman, that’s cold. He grabs her hand pulling her down onto the floor tickling her. Chad feels overwhelmed by his love for her that he’s not ready to admit, then he stops and helps her up. I love to hear you laugh. He leans to kiss her.

India puts the corn in the pan. Sandy moves over to the stove, Cody was teasing Chad about watching you walk.

She smiles. I felt his eyes on me, like I do right now. She looks up into his blue eyes. Dang! He’s so handsome.

Chad moves towards them. Mom, what can I do to help? He rubs India’s back. This doesn’t hurt when I touch your back does it?

No. She keeps stirring the corn.

You my son, can get the good dishes down. Cody, you can set the table.

Yes Mom. Cody puts the silverware out on the table. Their dad comes in grabs a kiss from his wife and the glasses for the table.

India remembers the last time she ate at a table. ACE… She looks at Sandy with tears flooding her eyes and runs outside. She doesn’t hear Sandy calling her, but the instant Chad does, he is out the door running. He finally catches up with her, enfolding her into his arms.

India, I won’t let anyone hurt you. What’s wrong?

The last time I sat at a table, our mom watched as her husband Ace try to…. She looks up at Chad. I slapped him good and hard. Then he proceed to beat me up while mom ate her supper.

Chad pulls her against him tighter. India, I expect you to sit at the table with me, as my wife. The only hands that will touch you are mine. Now, when we go back inside, you’ll get your pretty face washed and sit by my side at the table. He wipes her tears. You are so lovely."

India looks at him. Chad, what if I mess up?

So? We are allowed to. Now, let’s go. He rubs his belly. I’m starving. Chad helps her up, and together they walk into the house. Chad coaxes her up the stairs.

Sandy steps over to him. Son, is she all right?

Yeah, she had a bad experience at a table. She’ll be just fine. She comes down wearing his new shirt open, showing the new top he bought her. He likes watching her with his stary eyes.

She relaxes into Chad’s open arms. Mom, I’m sorry.

That’s OK. Lets eat. The food is waiting. They follow her into the dining room.

Chad grabs India’s hand. We are a praying family. His look is of love.

    Shall we join hands? They stand beside the chairs while their dad speaks;

Dear Gracious Father, we come to you with thanks that our boys are home safe and one is married. Bless Chad and his wife India’s marriage.

Make that understand that with YOU anything is possible.

Bless and protect Ashley. Give her your peace, in all that turmoil. Give our Daughter India, your peace as she struggles with her fears. Give Chad Patience, Wisdom, and a soft heart, when it comes to this marriage.

I know that with You it will last. Amen."

Chad holds the chair for his wife. She sits. The food is passed around India sits in tranquility listening to her husband’s words and savoring every bite of food. She can’t remember when she had home cooked food so tasty.

Sandy touches India’s hand and she jumped spilling her glass of milk. India just cringes in fear. "Child, no one is going to hurt you, I just wanted you to know you are allowed to talk.

You have Mitch’s and my blessing."

Chad comes back in with a glass of milk and a rag to clean up the mess. He just hugs her tight. It’s OK to make mess. You should see the dozy that dad makes when he is in a coking mood.

Mitch points a his fork towards his son. You do too when you cook, Chad. Mitch defends himself.

Daddy, I don’t know what you mean. Chad winks at his bride Things are calmed down and everyone in enjoying their supper again.

Later, they help clear the table and try to put the dishes in the dish washer while Chad and Cody are tossing water at each other, so India gets the sprayer off the sink and drenches the both of them. Hey, India, Chad, get a handle on your dry wife. Cody wipes the water off of his face.

Chad just walks towards India as she drowns him more and takes the sprayer and trys to get his wife but misses and get their dad unstead. Chad. Sandy, please take our daughter-in-law before I make Chad and Cody disappear.

Come on India. They take off into town as the three wet men head into the office. Chad asked. Dad, have you found away to get Ashley out?"

Cody looks around. Who is Ashley? He wants to know.

Mitch takes out the picture. No, not on Sunday. Her. He holds it out for Cody to see. India’s sixteen year old sister, Ashley.

OH, she’s pretty. Something just hit him inside his heart. Real love.

Mitchs glances at his son. Chad, there’s a tiny problem, Ashley would be turned over to your mother and me, not you or India. That means you’ll have to put up with a wife.

Mitch and Cody witness to the sparks of happiness springing up in Chad’s eyes.

Dad, I don’t think Chad minds.

    Cody!! Chad snaps.

Mitch hasn’t seen Chad this way in years. Chad, what’s wrong?

Dad, What’s wrong? I’m married, and I like India. I like the fact that she doesn’t refuse me any time or any place. I steamed over Markcus eyeing my wife. He looks at Mitch. What’s going on?

Son, you have fallen in love with your wife. Believe me or not. She has already fallen for you big guy.

Dad, we just met yesterday. How could that be?

Son, just maybe, just maybe God had a hand in all of this.

Chad runs a hand through his hair. Boy, He pulled one on me.

Cody grins and shrugs. Well, they say God has a sense of humor.

Cod, not now. Mitch still likes to smooth relations between his sons.

Chad looks out the window. He notices that his Mom’s red truck is not in the usual spot. Dad, where have my wife and mom gone?

Oh, they went to town. They’ll be right back. He looks at some papers.

India didn’t tell me they were leaving.

Son, she is just fine. His dad pats Chad’s hand. You can trust your mom to take care of your wife.

Chad, what are you going to do? Cody wants to understand. He never seen his brother like this, sorting out feelings for a woman, his woman, his wife.

I don’t know, but with other girls, I didn’t care if they came or went. India, is the only women that gets to me. I think about her a lot. Her step-father used a whip, She has scars on her back.

She thought she was going to get pounced on? Cody takes another look at the photo. Anger wells up inside of him as he puts the picture in his wallet. I will have her as my wife! And the mother allowed this?

Yes little brother, it’s stuff like that…that, makes me appreciate mom, and dad. India told me that her mom said that she was thankful that he married her with two kids. Chad looks to his dad in shock. He never had an unkind word when he speaks to his sons. She had no business being a mom!

Dad, we need to bring Ashley home, before that monster of a human harms her.

Cody looks at his dad with intense blue eyes.

I’m working on it Son. It takes time.

Dad, we don’t have that much time.

The sound of the door opening taking Chad’s attention. He about plows over Cody to see his wife, He stops, takes a breath, a whisper of Thank you Lord. Then he approaches India in the living room.

India takes his strong but gentle hand and kisses his cheek.

Chad looks inside the bag. What did you get? He looks more curious then ever.

Oh some personal items. She takes the scack back.

Oh. Looking directly into her green eyes. India, please let me know when you’re leaving.

Ok. She heads up to their bedroom. She puts on one of Chad’s shirts. The door comes open. She jumps.

India, it’s just me. He notices the shirt, his shirt. Wife, what are you doing?

He speaks with seduction in his voice and a twinkle in his blue eyes.

I’m getting ready for bed, Mr, Watch. She meets him with her own kind of seduction.

She slides in on her side of the bed.

Miss. Watch, you know that will be coming off.

Can you prove this? She starts to feel a tad bit warm while her knight in shining armor is undressing.

Chad climbs eagerly next to her warmth. With pleasure.

In the early moring dawn, a knock on the door brings them out of dream land. Chad, it’s five and Monday. Cody’s voice comes through the closed door.

All right. I’m up. India, I have to go to work. You, I’ll see you tonight. He kisses her several times in between stages of getting dressed.

Honey, I need to make your breakfast. She starts to get up.

I have no time. As a mater of fact, I’m giong to be late because of my wife. He meets her soft lips to snatch another kiss.

She wears a smile. I like hearing you say, ‘My Wife.’

He meets her smile with his sexy grin. "You are mine, as my wife. He shuts the door and runs out to the truck, but he can’t find his keys. Only to see they are kocked inside the truck.

India notices his wallet and the set of keys he had made for heron the dresser. She gets a robe on and goes outside to give him the keys and his wallet.

Thanks Babe. He delivers one more quick kiss.

Have a good day my husband.

You too. He takes off, glancing in the rearview mirror at the one he married. Even this far away, she is breathtaking. Lord, I don’t know why me, but thanks.

India goes back inside to get dressed. She hums a happy tune while she strolls into the kitchen
