About this ebook

This book is a private collection of personal thoughts, a look through a window of relationships, good and bad times, divine images, an elegy of life, and the pathos of death. Its journey has healed, blessed, and truly taken me through a revelatory metamorphosis that has cleansed me and left me a better man. I sincerely hope that it may bless you in a similar fashion.

    83RD & HOOVER

    Sitting here in borrowed space

    By a slightly ajar window

    Escaping the hot dry breath

    Of this summer day

    Forced to make a choice

    Between suffocating heat

    Or the eclectic sounds

    Of the city

    Each with its own

    Rhythm and compel

All driven by a different need

    To hide from the reality

    Of today

    And the uncertainty of tomorrow

    Ice cream trucks

    Moving slowly throughout

    The neighborhood

    Playing enticing

    Grade school melodies

    Drowning out the tambourine

    And voices

    Of a nearby church choir

The barking of an unattended dog

    Over run by sirens

    Of racing police vehicles

    Moving swiftly

    Passing without hesitation

    Those ladies of the night

    As if they were

    Just necessary scenery

    Needing to be there

    To fit in this

    Obtuse compartmentalized environment

Acting as though it is normal

    A young woman struggles

    With groceries

    And young men stand idle

    Staring into her plight

    Smoking those herbs

    Of alteration

    Numb to her need

    And predicament

    While an overcast sky

    Creeps in

    To complete this

    Repetitious intercity mural

    A CRY FOR TRUTH

    I feel like I should

    Be doing much more

    As this drum beats

    Inside my psyche

    Cry Kemet Nu!

    Adamatu!

    Calling me to rediscover

    The roots of my beginning

    When everything patterned itself

    From my people

    Power crazed minds

    Fictionalizing my history

    As their own

    Commissioning the famed in art

    To recreate

    A new vision

    Of the Son of God

    Printing fraud

In the pages of their texts

    Enslaving the minds

    Of the colors

    Of this world

A DAY IN A LIFE OF HARMONY

    Joyous and filled with life

    Piercing dark majestic eyes

    Examining the very things

    You see and hear

    Through the curiosity

    Of the wisdom

    Beyond your years

    Chasing her voice

    While you are yet young

    As she reveals herself

    And then hides

    To watch her gifts blossom

    Within your heart

    Cultivating and nurturing

    The harmony

    Of your ordered life

    MS_Page_020.jpg

    A GIFT—FOR ME

    Contented in this place

    Of peace

    Where anxious and anxiety

    Are absent

    And are allowed no longer

    To play

    Settling into this value

    Of what my placement

    Has become

    Working with the blessings

    That are placed before me

    Appreciating the favor

    Of my victories

    In expectantly, a great gift

    From above

    Letting me witness

    This exchange

    Through Your touch

    Bringing this new thing

    Into my world

    Changing acceptance

    Into a good thing

And the return of my joy

    A GOOD THING

    When you were born

I could see the joy in your eyes

    Your eyes-piercing dark

And filled with wisdom and peace

    From the kitchen window

    The youngest of that group

    But anointed with knowledge

    Of the virtuous woman

Above the curse and wrapped in your inheritance

Soaring beyond the pool of evil

Arise! Stand tall in your meekness

    Daughter of Israel

    For your pure heart

    Will reveal Him
