Author

Azor J. Racine

Azor Joswalette I am the only girl and the last in a family of three children. I have been living in the City Beautiful for seven years, and I love the heat because the climate is about the same with where I came from. I like red roses, anime, romance novels, strawberries, Indian films, foreign romantic dramas, and rainy days; yet I don’t really like driving when it’s raining. I like peace and quiet to the point where it’s scary and you might not hear every word I say.

    The Letters

    CHAPTER I

When our world comes to an end, what would it be like for you? Will you be happy? Will you be sad about it? In my life I know nothing about happiness, fairytales, and such! I have known that I am not allowed to dream, yet I was dreaming a wonderful dream the day you opened that door for me. That door was actually the door that was going to show me what it really means to be alive. You were going to show me the bad, good, believable, and unbelievable in a good or bad way; the beautiful, the ugly, and the super-wonderful things about life. I see the world as people used to show me; in this world I had nothing and needed nothing to survive. Until I had you!

    H anaïsha, Hanaïsha!

She did not answer, so the girl continued to run to her, yelling, Did you hear?

She still didn’t answer, so the girl looked everywhere under the tree to find her but couldn’t until something brushed her face after a sudden chill passed by. She looked up the tree and saw her friend. She assumed that Hana was sleeping on the tree’s branches, but then from the looks of it, she knew that Hana was not really asleep but just reading a book and didn’t want to answer her; so she sat down near the root of the tree and sighed, as if the world was about to end. She continued to make noises until Hana dropped the book over her head and said, What do you need, Alma, weren’t you supposed to be in class right now?

Alma looked at her and gave her a very painful look, so she continued, What! Did that idiotic boyfriend of yours do something to you again, like cheat on you, maybe?

Alma and her twin sister Elma were the only ones that could speak to Hanaïsha without any problem, and Hanaïsha takes care of them like she was their mother. She would punish their boyfriend for them. She would make sure they study for their test or if they went out together she would make sure that they stay clear of the law. Hanaïsha hated to have to explain herself to others twice.

    No way! Alma answered hurriedly.

    Suspicious, Hana thought. Hmm.

Trust me on this, Hana, he values his life. I think he still fears you from the last time he made me cry.

I see, so what exactly did you want to tell me that’s so important that you had to disturb my reading?

It’s not really something important. It’s just that I wanted to see you, so I ran here.

    Really now?

    Yes, really!

I see! But you just saw me, Alma, about an hour ago! You are not with Elma, so are you still going to say that what you want to say to me is not really important?

Really, Hana, it’s not that important, so let’s forget it. More importantly, what’s going on with you? You don’t look happy today.

Ah, it’s just that my favorite bracelet broke this morning.

Your bracelet? Which one? You are still wearing them, as I can see.

Then look closely. She raised her hand up to her friend, and Alma exclaimed, Oh my god! The bracelet he gave you broke.

Yes, it broke, just like that, when I was in the library.

Alma continued, Oh my god, oh my god.

Wait a second. First of all, you have something important to tell me, but you’re trying to hide it from me. Second, my favorite bracelet broke, and then, I received a text message from the man you were supposed to have class with some minutes ago, and now you are calling God so much that it’s scary. So what’s going on, Alma?

Nothing, really, I was just surprised, that’s it.

Alma! Are you trying to get me mad at you?

    Alma shivered.

    Now talk!

    Alma didn’t answer her.

I see, so you are going to play that game with me now, OK. She came down the tree and said, If you are not going to tell me, I’ll just go ask the man himself, and that will take care of everything.

    No! Alma yelled with fury.

What? Hana answered, surprised to hear Alma yelling at her.

Sorry, but he is in class now, so you should not go to see him. You can talk to him tomorrow, right?

    You—

Just as she was about to continue the sentence, her phone rang, and it was him. She opened the phone and showed it to Alma and said, See, he is telling me to come to his car because he needs to take me somewhere to tell me something important. So you don’t need to worry, I’ll know when I see him later.

Hana was about to text him back when Alma snatched the phone from her hand and texted, Sorry, I am a little busy tonight. I’ll see you first thing tomorrow. Hana.

What do you think you are doing? She snatched her phone back. See, now I can’t text him back, he will think I am playing with him. I’ll go see him after all, and he can give me a ride home, so you can take the car home with Elma, OK?

Alma ran in front of her, opened her arms, and said with closed eyes, No, you really can’t see him now, Hana. Hana didn’t give her an answer, so she continued, It will be very bad if you go now.

Why? See, you still can’t answer me, so you leave me no choice. She moved Alma’s arms and passed her to leave when Elma yelled while walking to them. From the looks of it, she, unlike her sister, went to class.

    He is getting married.

    Surprise, Hana asked.

What? She looked at Alma and saw that she was not looking at her. She continued to say, a little shaken up, Are you guys trying to be funny, or are you trying to be mean?

Sorry! I didn’t want to ruin your day when you have a very important exam to worry about. Alma answered.

Sorry, sorry, Hana, we really don’t know what to say to you anymore.

    Hana stood there, frozen.

Hana! both of them yelled. Are you OK? You should go home for today. We will tell the teacher for you, so let’s go, OK?

    No.

    Hana.

I am OK, Elma, don’t worry. I need to go to class. If I don’t go, he will know that I know, and that would ruin the fun, right? She took her bag and the book she threw at Alma and started moving to go to class when she stopped and said, "Just one thing. I need to know. If he is getting married and you guys are being so secretive, that means he is getting
