    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

    To Him who is first in my life; who makes all things possible; for the words that He deposited in me through His Holy Spirit; to whom all honor and glory belongs; thank you Jesus. For the assistance and devotion of my wife Marilyn, for the many hours she spent going over every page, and allowing me to take away from the time we spent together to write that which the Lord has given me; to Presiding Elder Rev. Dr. Cynthia Willis Stewart, Sis. Marlene Council, Bro. Rodney (Rock) Olden and Charles Howcott for the many hours they spent, along with my wife, reading and rereading, correcting and suggesting; to Mother David, who led me to the altar that I might praise His name-thank you.

    And to you the reader: may the words that were given to me guide you to the only words that matters- His.

    TEACH ME TO PRAY

    Matthew 6:9-13

    This, then, is how you should pray

    Thank You Lord for Your mercy and Your Grace.

    Thank You for this day and the things it brings.

    I thank You for loving me and knowing my name;

    For the wind, the sun and the rain.

    Thank You for the things I see; the things I hear;

    The wonderful sound of Your word.

    Lord I’m forever grateful for this life that I live;

    For the journey You’ve taken me through; My wife;

    My children and You.

    Lord I don’t want to sound ungrateful for all You’ve done; for the victories that I’ve won. And I understand that there are others who need you; need to learn Your ways; But Lord, Dear God, Can You Please Teach Me to Pray.

    I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU

    Job 38

    Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?

    I wasn’t there in the beginning when You created the heaven and the earth. I wasn’t there when You set the stars in their place, I wasn’t there when You told the sun to shine; I wasn’t there when you divided the Land from the sea. No I wasn’t there, but if I were I would have wrote a symphony. I was not there when you set the limits of the sea; when you said This far you may come and no farther; here is where you’re proud waves halt. I was not there when You took clay in your hand, formed it, gave it breathe, made man.

    I was not there nor am I able to comprehend the vastness of the earth. I do not know the way to the abode of light or where darkness resides or where the storehouse of snow and hail may be; where the east winds arrive and lighting is dispersed. If these things were known to me, I’d sing a song that would last through eternity.

    I do not know if the rain has a father, or where the dew comes from. I do not know where the frost comes from or who birthed the ice, I was not there. I have no control over the beautiful Pleiades nor can I loose the cords of Orion. I can not call forth the constellations or lead a Bear and her cubs out of their den. If I knew and could do all these things, then I would write a poem, a sonnet, a masterpiece.

    I was not there when you set the laws of heavens, your dominion over the earth. I was not there when you spoke to the clouds, send lightning bolts on their way; gave wisdom to the heart, understanding to the mind. I was not there when you spoke to Moses, Jeremiah, Isaiah; sent Jesus to walk among us; to die for our sins; to lie in a tomb; to rise and live again. If I were, I would have shouted Hallelujah to Your name, bow down and sang praises over and over again.

    Although I was not there, I still praise You in my song, praise You in my dance, praise You in my glance, praise You in advance. I praise You in my walk, I praise You in my
