Solamente quienes han amado profundamente, podrán comprender el contenido de este libro y son a esas personas a quienes se lo dedico con la misma sinceridad y espontaneidad de los verdaderos bohemios; los que compartimos los subibajas de la vida con colegas y amigos quienes, sin duda, han vivido las mismas experiencias… Y juntos podemos reír y llorar, disfrutando las peripecias del amor… pero caminando siempre hacia delante, sabiendo que la vida continúa y el sol volverá a brillar día tras día, no obstante las tormentas que surgen en nuestro cielo…

I
Nos preguntamos muchas veces:
¿Por qué quien ama llora?
Si el amor es nuestro gran amigo;
Que así como los ángeles adoran al Creador
Y en armonioso unísono le cantan,
Al amor debe uno elevar sus melodías.
Quien ama mucho, mucho lo disfruta;
Copioso es el placer por ser amado;
Y el amador también lo goza amando.
Mas no obstante, profuso también
Ha sido el llanto que de todos los amantes ha fluido;
Cuando sus corazones se han partido.
Entonces no es de sorprender si por amor sollozas,
Es normal gemir intensamente por su ausencia lastimera,
O por la muerte de su esencia soñadora:
Las despedidas, el dolor de los desdenes, la distancia;
La traición, el desprecio, y el olvido…

Algunos hasta llegan a dudar si volverían a amar
Y yo respondo: ¡Quién podría vivir sin respirar!
Si lo aspiramos como el aire que nutre a los pulmones;
Si fluye en las arterias como sangre ardiente,
Llenando nuestro pecho de ambiciones.
Y nos brinda las más sacras bendiciones: Nuestros hijos,
Los frutos más sublimes del amor,
El resultado de la unión de la materia y de las almas.
Por quienes sobreviven los recuerdos,
La esperanza; el futuro que nace del pasado,
La inspiración de todos nuestros cantos.
Sin amor no hay poesía, no hay canción.
He ahí a quienes no han amado…
¿Será porque no tienen corazón?

El amor es la esencia de la vida. ¡Es nuestro amigo!
Y… ¿Quién no ama a sus amigos? Y a la vez,
¿Quién no llora por un amigo fallecido?
¿Quién no lo extraña si se encuentra ausente?
¿O, quién no lo lamenta si se va a la guerra
Y regresa como un héroe sucumbido?
Así mismo ¿Quién no se relama sus heridas tristemente
Ante la prevaricación de quien amaba?
¡Pues no existe peor dolor, que cuando un amigo te traiciona!
Si, todos hemos llorado por amor, lo admito;
Claramente mi canción lo afirma;
La mitad de este libro lo confirma.
Pero insisto, que aunque lloremos por amor,
Con la misma efusión que le cantamos,
Si se es sincero, al recordarlo también lo bendecimos.

FLORICANTO
Yo, tejedor de recuerdos,
Pintor y escultor de perennes artefactos,
Escribo este floricanto, con mis débiles manos,
Atadas por fantasmas del pasado
Y exhalo un poema a la musa de mis sueños
Por Xochipilli¹ inspirado.
Y prorrumpo en silencio mis palabras floridas,
Que frígidas de llanto, claudican tristes en mi tierno corazón…
Un corazón que yace en aras del resentimiento,
Sacrificado en honor a los dioses del dolor.
En este floricanto, mi tristeza reclama su dolor
A las fuerzas del cosmos inclemente;
Reconociendo que mis versos pintados de lamento,
Como pétalos de cuetlaxochitl², volarán perdidos por los aires
Sin rumbo ni esperanza, hasta el final de los tiempos,
Cuando la luz de Tonatiuh³ se extinga de mis ojos vulnerados
Y viva ya por siempre en el mundo de los descarnados.

Encapotado de lúgubres recuerdos,
Y ataviado en plumaje de ilusiones;
Como pintor que soy y escultor de perennes artefactos:
Tlakuikuilo, amantekatl, tlamachki⁴,
Con mis manos he tatuado fantasmas inhibidos
A mis tétricas canciones y a mis versos.
Yo, simple mortal, yokoxkatlakatl⁵
Con mi sangre purpúrea, candente, efervescente,
He grabado la imagen de la musa de mis sueños
En la eterna monolítica roca de mi mente.
Empedernido poeta, vivo solamente de querellas;
Queriendo iluminar con las estrellas
El nicho del recuerdo de su amor.
Vivo devorando su nombre, matando así de inanición
Mi antes férreo corazón:
Un corazón sacrificado a Xochiquetzal⁶:
Dios del amor, Dios de la juventud, Dios del pasado…

Las bellas hembras de mi lejano Anahuac,
OH, como las extraño.
Emergen en mis sueños diurnos
como manojos de cuetlaxochitl⁷;
cual xochitl⁸ de aurora, bañadas de rocío,
Grabadas en mágicos recuerdos
De un diáfano rocío en aquellas primaveras
De mi lejana juventud en el Ajusco⁹.
Llegan súbitamente a brindarme un calor, tibio y sereno;
a perfumar mi almohada.
Son la oferta floral para mis dioses:
Bellas por dentro y hermosas por afuera.
¿Quién de ellas fuera? ¿Quién fuera parte de ellas?
Xopilli¹⁰ las creó para enmarcarlas en floricanto;
Y adornar el jardín de Xochiquetzal¹¹
en la gran Tenochtitlan¹² de mis sueños.

Tenue, silenciosa; su mirada coqueta es misteriosa
Como la selva chinanteca en las orillas
