About this ebook

The reader is introduced to Somnath Sarkar’s work of poems, which charms, captivates, and astounds the reader with the author’s spiritual learning, intellect, sensitivity, and lyricism about nature. Some of his poems are about the beautiful journey of self-realization. He has always been praised and acclaimed by his friends and peers on his writings. It is on their insistence and goodwill that he has ventured out to take a shot at printing his work. The author’s mixed feelings about a lot of issues surface in his writings. The Threshold guides readers through a trajectory of untried and abstract poetics united somewhere with his inner reflection. The verses are brilliant collages. They stir the senses, calling forth a serene burst of sights, sounds, and images.

    Dedication

In loving memory of my parents without whose inspiration I would not have been able to write my poems. It would be unwise if I do not recall Father Gordon E Murphy, SJ, my Principal at St. Xavier’s School, Patna, India who explained the nuances of the English language, to me

    and finally,

I dedicate this book to you all, my gentle readers without whom, my efforts would be futile, with my love and appreciation. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your lives. I hope that you have at least as much fun in reading my poems, as much I’ve had in the writing them.

    ERA

    Time flies by inconspicuously, soundless,

Rootless on a course of an endless race…

Loosening inscrutabilities for us to behold,

Moving always moving, tireless and bold~

Much before you realize you are bald and old,

    Pondering on the wholesome life left in the cold;

Rocking in your chair, lamenting the lost chances,

Scowling from pains and anguish at life’s imbalances…

Enjoy the beauty of the roads travelled all along,

Treasure, adore time, making the best of the given song!!

    REALIZATION

A road led me on a trail of a mythical dream

I followed it through the night only to find the day

My life was simple in some ways and in others, inexplicable

I struggled to find myself only to come up against the tors

Desolate and cold it was with the waft of the ebony song

Abysmal depth greeting me inside the coast of nostalgia

Infinity waiting at hand, time setting out to free me.

Never in my life had I found anything so pure:

A brilliant reflective star more than this Life, for sure!!

    RUMINATION

We have wallowed in the nectar of comfort in isolation~

Yet inside me burns the yen to belong with you in separation …….

The torment is like an isolated song fetching the refrain,

Lasting beyond, but yet so dear and close to my compassion.

You have ignited the fire of our warm ramblings on the riverfront …..

My fancy runs across the arid land yearning to get rain soaked
