    Preface

As all of us dip into our daily routine in life, amazing things are almost a certainty and bound to happen for which we cannot prepare ourselves nor can we predict the same by any length of imagination. These events which unfold are perhaps never thought of in our wildest dreams.

Many times, these happenings cast a serious impact on us which eventually may shape our destiny for the rest of our lives. These incidents hardly come calling with a bell, and when they evolve, we hardly get time to even think or take decisive actions, compelling us in most certainty to just flow with the wave as if having no control at all, like a sea surfer on the flow in the ocean, often tumbling, getting up, and starting again until we meet our destiny. That’s life, so enjoy, accept the surprises with open arms, and soak in it to have the ultimate pleasure.

This is nothing but God’s way of showing you the path which you are destined to follow. Like it or dislike it, but you just cannot get out of it.

    Destiny

A decade back, my work brought me to a beautiful picturesque city in India called Pune. Prior to my actual landing here with all my bags and baggage, if I can call them so, I hardly had an idea about this city which turned out to be fascinating.

It has good scenic beauty, with small hills visible on all sides of the horizon, magnificent weather hovering between twelve and thirty–five degrees Celsius always-cool breeze blowing to make your evening a pleasure to experience and sober people adding to the excitement. A very good place to settle down, I thought. It’s nothing less than Mother Earth’s unparalleled gift to the humankind. Being in this great set-up, I took very little time to settle down on my pressing work, which actually brought me here, but still had plenty of leisure time to pursue some of my hobbies, like listening to good music, walking, and writing.

The scenario and the total package here gelled well with one of my hobbies brisk walking and every day, early morning and late in the evening, I was absolutely looking forward to this gift from heaven, one hour a piece on either side of the day.

The footpaths were well designed with plenty of trees planted beside the pathways, and the greenery all around made the area a treat for the eyes and exudes a pleasant feeling always. Plenty of colourful young ones and charming old people around always made me feel warm inside and often helped me to make this an interesting journey with new learning.

A bright and sunny Sunday morning in Pune

Days passed, and weeks vanished in a wink as I pressed up the tempo on my work front to learn new things quickly and make a starting impact in my organization and simultaneously settle down on my daily routine in a pleasing manner. Both professionally and personally, I was totally at ease with life and often thanked the Almighty for presenting me with such a fulfilling self-contained life.

The days were just passing by the way one cuts butter with a knife. True, the sparks were missing a bit, but not for long surely.

    The Intruder

While on my daily walk I noticed lately a peculiar thing which many human beings may ignore, fail to notice, or not bother to care about. A beautiful stray dog would every day look at me and wait in the same place and at the same time whenever I went out walking. Initially, I just ignored him for some time, but not for long as his eyes at times were so expressive, telling me things which I found hard not to notice. So one day I gave him a biscuit, and believe me, I suppose it made his day. Henceforth, he would religiously follow me on my long brisk walks every day—be it raining, sun shining at it’s brightest best, or bitter cold—and very quickly formed a bond with me and became a part of my life. It would bark away any pet coming my way so that he could spend exclusive time with me, often courageously chasing away dogs double his size! I knew it was nothing but sheer jealousy, and I laughed inside at his oozing love for me.

The relationship continued, and in time I started pampering the dog a little more and named him Rozo. I started giving him some food whenever possible, and many times, I gave him a cuddle to make him feel at home. Strangely, Rozo would look very energetic all the while I was there, and suddenly when the time came for me to depart, he would look very dull and unimpressive. Often he would turn his face away from me, pretending not to look at me. I was really amazed how a street dog could suddenly make such a strong bond with a human and force others to look back and take notice. It’s hard to believe, but I experienced it, and I now know for sure that it’s absolutely possible but only if you can match with their frequency and wavelength.

One day a nasty encounter happed. It was a Saturday morning in one cold, foggy winter month. I was in my jogging tracks as usual, with a half-sleeved pullover to keep myself comfortable. Rozo was as usual on my left side, trotting all the way, wagging his tail, and looking up at my eyes at times with his tongue out.

Suddenly, I saw a black dog running towards me in full speed. A Dobermann it was and barking all the way as if it wanted to bite me for no reason. It looked so aggressive, and I could not imagine getting bitten by a
