Without a Sound
Many times have I seen the faces of pain and tears, so true,
The faces of women bruised with their eyes black and blue,
The tears of pain clutch their hearts so bad, they want to flee,
Before it gets to the point where they are just a memory.
All of them seek a way out at one time or another,
But once it comes to light he soon will discover,
That she longs to get away from him and break the chains,
For the beatings continue and again your left in the pouring rain.
This time being worse than the last, but you seem to stay,
Looking in the mirror at yourself, not liking it this way,
Your eyes are black and blue and your lips are cut deep,
All that is left now is the pain and you being left to weep.
I kept telling you to get away, for it will get worse each day,
Knowing that I do not approve or like seeing you this way,
Your tears are falling, as your screams get louder, more than before,
This time my dear you had no idea, what was in store.
How I knew it would go too far one day, how you were laid to rest,
Remembering you vividly lying there, how beautiful you were dressed,
That one cold day in December as they lowered you in the ground,
Now being in a better place, you have left without a sound.

David J. Poplstein As promised, this is Part Two of my collection of poems adding to my first book: Man’s Imitation of Life and Desire (Part One). I was born and raised in Cleveland Ohio. I started writing in the early 1980's during high school. I always had a gift for writing to touch someone’s heart in one way or another. Whether it is my life or your life, or even if it relates to someone you know and who you are close to. Most of my poems are written about true-life experiences (hence: The 2nd Ultimate Book of True Poetry) some are about my life, and some are about people I have met and the ones I know and love. I enjoy writing and some of my work has been used in music with: Singer, Songwriter, and Composer, My Uncle, (Benny Carr) from Cleveland/Parma Heights Ohio, along with being used in other venues. This collection of poems is also dedicated to some very special women throughout my life who have been my inspiration for me to write many. They know who they are and I thank them all for being in my life and loving me back then. I also thank God for this gift of writing and some of my inspirations for my book, as I am an Ordained Minister since 2003. I thank my family for being there for me and encouraging me to go for it! I hope you enjoy these poems as much as I did writing them. Best Wishes, David J.

book_pic_28_old_apartment.jpg7th Floor
Once again if I may capture you with my tale within,
Another time, another place, the dark street, the wind,
Streetlights are dim following the storm from before,
The old apartment house window, the dust filled floor.
You stepped out from an old alleyway, longing for the man,
That will treat you like a princess and truly understand,
Looking up at the old windows, you made your way through,
As the bricks were old and cracked, you just never knew.
What awaited you on the other side, smell of rain in the air,
You stopped and looked up again, catching a glimpse from up there,
For you squinted your eyes to see the window on the 7th floor,
It captured your mind, but it disappeared, you wanted to know more.
You entered the old building, the old debris, finding the stair,
Making your way, the creaking stairs, hoping you’d find it there,
The visions from the window and the street pass your mind,
Inside you smiled, as the curiosity mounted, you longed to find.
That miracles come true once in a lifetime, this is your day,
To the times you longed for, so come what may,
Making your way up the old staircase, you wanted to know more,
You rounded the corner, finding it was I at the window, on the 7th floor.
Screams Still Ring
How do you walk away carrying your pain through night,
Walking along the dark streets alone not so bright,
With no place to go, your tears just seem to fall,
Standing there with frozen tears feeling you lost it all.
Wandering through the night as your mind begins to recall,
All of those times where you have sustained it all,
To places of darkness that you remember and know,
Where you’ve endured the abuse, how you never want it to show.
The screams ring inside your head, just can’t seem to shake,
Finding in the morning your pillow wet with tears when you wake,
Each day you try to make it through as the day seems to fade,
Not knowing how much more you can take of this charade.
For the days seems to bring such hauntings to you,
Even years later, the abuse is gone and you’ve made it through,
Knowing in my mind you did not deserve the pain of past,
And now you long for the days that will truly last.
Never again wanting to live in fear or the abuse of his hand,
Now it is time to put it to rest, right now where you stand,
You only deserve the best, for it’s the love I see in you,
Still there are times, closing your eyes envisioning all you’ve been through.
Shadows of Pain
If you only knew what it was in your eyes that I see,
Of times gone past you’d rather not recall, just let them be,
The times of sadness in your soul, the pain you had to endure,
Trying not to remember, casting its shadow like a blur.
Years later the times slow, somehow you’ve made it through,
But you truly wish in someway, that if you only knew,
The bad times that were in store for you, you could’ve changed,
But time held its story of you, leaving you completely deranged.
Only to find out that it was nothing that you had done in vain,
To cause this life of abuse for you, leaving you in so much pain,
All those nights of tears and being alone, wanting to just walk away,
But he lied and promised you the world, and you decided to stay.
I tell you the truth, after knowing you and hearing what you’ve been through,
There is no reason you deserve this life, only the best should come to you,
Finding you sweet and kind, the perfect woman to surely fall for,
You deserve the best and all of life’s treasures and so much more.
For now the day is gone, as the night brings the moonlight,
I will think of you often and surely keep your dream alive tonight,
I will always be here for you no matter the price I’d have to pay,
Being here is all I can do for you, truthfully I’d have it no other way.

The tears of pain clutch their hearts so bad, they want to flee,

Beauty Unfolds
Watching the beauty of you unfold before me,
Your smile reminds me of the springs sweet breeze,
As your perfume swirls past my face, so soft and sweet,
I long to give you everything to make your heart complete.
Remembering the times you look my way with your pretty eyes,
Wondering if its really you and if you long for love’s sweet surprise,
The way you move like a silent silouhette against the night,
How I found you so elegant as my heart surely takes flight.
Longing for a girl like you to only make things right,
You know I see you soaring far above the earths light,
For I know in your past your dues of pain have been paid,
Where now lingers no more painful thoughts to again evade.
Finding only the truth my love in the depths of my heart,
Surely there will be only you and I, never being apart,
The rainy days and the thunder makes me think of the past,
Never wanting to replay it again, as it goes by so fast.
I hope in these words you will find the answers of what you long for,
A life of sweet times, loving you, being with you, forever more,
When the lights fade and night comes in its you I long to find,
For when all is said and done my dear, I shall never leave you behind.
Beyond The Blue
My love how the images of you come from out of nowhere,
Wanting only the best for you and sweet times to share,
The miracles that come true when you are on my mind,
Allowing those stolen moments for me to surely find.
The special things that make you happy and make you smile,
Never wanting to give up the chance with you to spend a little while,
Captured by you forever in a day, the clouds break there way free,
For into the eyes of the soul, it is then that I truly see.
The times from past that hurt, things you rather not recall,
But this time is different and know I’d never let you fall,
Somewhere, somehow in the vastness of time you made your way through,
As the clouds dissapated, there you were, from beyond the blue.
The sun broke free and your name was written across the sky,
Never did I wonder or ask the simple question why,
Only wanting the best for you throughout this wild dillusion,
Finding mostly I was just entering one of life’s true illusions.
Looking now, beyond the blue, I only wanted to know your name,
Keeping it all inside for you, but finding its all the same,
Waiting for you in my dreams as the night closes in,
Hoping just once for a chance with you, for us to truly begin.
Beyond The Shadow
Picture if you can, the sun’s warmth, the crowded street,
The haze, the smell of the city, the sidewalk at your feet,
Walking along hearing the silent hello’s as you pass,
Finding the sun is sinking slowly but you hoped it would last.
As you walk by the old storefronts, having been closed for years,
You think back to a time ago, finding you are holding back the tears,
From times of hurt and pain, your thoughts and senses are reeling,
Hoping time will erase the darkness and stop the painful feeling.
The sun finally sets as the people on the streets fade, nightfalls,
As the old streetlights come to life, and through you the night air calls,
You hear the soft night breeze surely calling your pretty name,
You walk along listening close; you will soon find it’s not the night breeze to blame.
Your mind is racing, your heart beats faster, but you just don’t know,
As you come around the corner, it is I
who stepped out of the shadow,
Face to face we stood, speechless, our hearts were beating fast,
Our eyes locked, as we both began to smile, thinking, could this last?
My dear it was I who whispered your name from out of the shadow,
Come my love, take my hand, and in your heart you will truly know,
Of all I stand for as a man and all the true love I have to give,
A love you’ve never known before, together forever, we shall live.
Long To Stay
The moments missed are many until I saw you,
Almost to the point of dispair thinking I might have been through,
But then came you, standing there so pretty I was lost,
Although I knew somehow I’d have to pay the cost.
Just to see all the beauty and sweetness that
