Poems to Jesus Christ - Kassi Ydris
America, America
(inspired by and dedicated to Vice President Joe Biden
and Speaker of the House John Boehner with much respect
and admiration always)
America, America
my heart sings to you
now that I am no longer lonely.
a wise man once told me
Don’t waste your life being sad.
America, America
wild-berries and natal plums
sky blue seas
my heart belongs to you
there are different kinds of sadness
some deep, some darker, some lighter
wake up and find your strength
don’t become a nation of complainers and blamers
with my tears I have cleansed your darkness
there’s a feeling that it’s all for nothing
in a world of hate
but it is the light that fires up the soul
that unites us against
the bitterness
of evil.
a wise man once told me,
I have faith in you
someday you will fall and break
but you must get up
learning to heal
teaching yourself to mend
not a patched up version of yourself
of the old
or a better version of what once was
but a new vision
of tomorrow
lighting up the hearts with brightness and hope
of the young, of the new generation
America, America
I have faith in you.
walk amongst the wild-berries my children
to reach the natal plums
teach the young to be wise
in God’s garden there are many flowers with thorns
even thorns
give new life
in the sun.
America, America
a wise man once told me,
"Don’t waste your life being sad…
there is more happiness in love than hate
there is more joy in cheerfulness than bitterness
look up at the sky my sons, my daughters, my children,
you are not the lonely ones."
America, America.

I am
(Dedicated to all the people of the world with love)
I am every one and no one
I am your pain and your joy
your laughter, your sorrow
The light in your eyes
when you smile
I am the love in your heart
That can heal
The beauty of a baby’s cry
The love in the voice
Of a child
I am every one and no one
I am a circle completed
I am
Here.

Out of Slavery—Into Freedom
(Dedicated to all gay/lesbian/bisexual and
transgendered people of the world with love)
I bless you with
my soul
And
With my heart
I want to help you
for
you have suffered much
my children
together we can push the rock
over the hill and over the mountains
transforming weakness into
strength,
beauty,
endurance,
fortitude
and
Love.
if God were here
he would say,
‘I will not let the world kill my gay children
anymore’
And you who hurt them
Stop using my name for evil deeds.
All of you who have killed the innocent lives
Of gay and transgendered people
Your day of judgment
Is
Here.
Free all gay men and women and transgendered people
Free them of hate
It is time for the new slaves
To see Liberty
and See
the
Sun.

Seoul has no soul
(Dedicated to all Korean people in the world).
When I needed someone you pushed me away
from your heart,
I walked the streets of Nandemoon to the cathedral
The people in the Korean catholic church rejected me—
I was homeless—
I slept in Liberation Park in the cold
on Christmas Day.
My body and my mind
were frozen.
I went to the bars to ask for help
in Itaewon—
but the Korean guy that I loved rejected me
for a handsome muscular guy
he was kissing in front of me
I wonder why ne never kissed me
my heart was broken—
I really loved him.
I loved Korea, I still love you
My beautiful Korea—
One day I hope
you understand…
stop selling your women and men and children
to prostitution
and your souls for sex, drugs and money.
Teach yourselves and your children
to be humble—
Korea belongs to all
not only the elite
the rich can’t take their money to heaven
it is the poor, and the humble and weak
who will make it to paradise first.
when I needed someone you pushed me away
from your heart.

The Tears of God
(Dedicated to all the people of Texas with Love Always)
Mockingbird, Mockingbird,
Sing me a song,
on bluebonnets the leaves and the petals
sing to me
who has never forgotten
the hearts and souls of Texas, my Texas
don’t be so lonely
I have always had a place for you in my heart,
the souls lost find their way back to the light of God,
and Jesus Christ’s love
makes a new path to his ascendant spirit in
