    Introduction

As women we have to wear many hats: the mother, the aunt, the grandmother, the wife, the daughter, the breadwinner, the homemaker, the cook, the healer, the counselor, the educator, the electrician, the carpenter, the mediator, the driver, the lover, the best friend and the most important and most precious of all, the child bearer. Women are their children’s first nurturer and teacher. Women have the power to heal with one hand and strike with the other. Yet, somewhere along the way many women have lost their perspectives on what it’s about to be a real woman, to be ladylike and to persevere against all odds.

Many women have gotten lost in becoming the the modern woman. They have gotten lost in the fads, the movie screens and the music videos. They have allowed unrealistic expectations to be put on themselves by the media and fulfilled men’s stereotypes and fantasies about their attitudes, their bodies and their mentality. They have allowed terms of vulgarity to become terms of endearment. Many women have pushed, I can be who I want to be and say what I want to say and do what I want to do, just a little too far. This has cost many women dearly. Some women may get upset by the following suggestions but it is time for something to be said. What’s good for the bee is not always good for the honey.

If you don’t accept any other advice regarding relationships do know that OPEN COMMUNICATION is the best thing you can do for your relationship(s). Here are some key notes to remember:

    • Look for internal qualities.

    • It’s okay to have high standards of your mate, but don’t settle for less and then place high expectations on that man.

    • Understand your individuality and understand that your mate is an individual.

    • Agree to disagree.

    • Be receptive to one another’s views.

    • Be realistic and reasonable.

    • Be truthful.
