About this ebook

THOMAS ERROL KNIGHT...

graduated high school with top honors and a football scholarship to the school of his choice. He chose Morehouse. Graduating with a business degree in one hand and being drafted by the Green Bay Packers were more than he had ever imagined. He went on to play three years leading his team to two championship victories.

...SINGLE, ACCOMPLISHED...

feeling unfulfilled, he ditched the helmet and pads, took his business degree and turned it into a multimillion dollar brokerage firm, in Nashville Tennessee. The success of that company opened many doors, allowing him to open a new firm in the downtown area of his home town of Riley, Louisiana. Business was good. He made just as much money as he had playing pro ball, and without the injuries. Butstill, itwasn't enough.

...AND WITHOUT LOVE.

Something was missing.A life beyond the job, a family to go home to at the end of the day, something that said he wasn't alone. Things looked hopeless for the most part, until a chance meeting with his high school sweetheart sparked flames that was once there. He wanted nothing more than to rekindled the love they had once shared.

Could Thomas convince this woman that his childhood behavior had not followed him into adulthood, or would the antics of a jilted ex-lover prove to be his down fall and their doomed relationship.

Carrie L. Macon

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Watts, California, Carrie Macon always dreamed of being a writer. She wasn't like her 9 siblings and various friends. When the summer came she was in her room writing while all the others were out making the most of their summer vacation. Camping trips, she chose to stay at home, writing. Driving on the highway from Los Angeles to San Diego to visit the grandmother she was named for and her many other relatives, you'd find her writing and occasionnally keeping track of the different license plates on the cars that passed. While riding the school bus to her high school alma mater, Cleveland High in Reseda, she'd be writing stories about anything and everything. No matter where she was in the world she always had a notebook, even homemade, and some sort of writing utensil in her hand. The first book she ever wrote was over ten years ago. She's looking forward to sharing that with her readers. She has a wonderful selections of writings including her very first cookbook titled, It's Hard Losing Weight When You're A Baptist, that wasinspired by her pastor. She's also coming up with new ideas daily. In her spare time she enjoys reading, cooking for special occasions, baking, dancing and singing, whether it's in the comfort of her home orin her church choir. She enjoys playing with her grandsons, Cameron and Ethan making up funny songs about her family that they sing together. She loves her family. We are looking for great things from this writer in the future. If you haven't done so already, pick up a copy of her already released titles, "Kisses Don't Lie" and "Just Another Lonely Knight."They are bothgood reads.

    About the Author

This book is dedicated to the loving memory of three wonderful men of God who have left a deep impact on my life.

First and foremost to my father, Lee O. Macon. Whom without you I would not be here. You gave me your unconditional love, your protection and taught me to stay true to myself and seek God. You taught me to not only love others but to love me. Thank you daddy.

To my beloved late Pastor, Thomas Eugene Johnson, who was like a father to me in so many ways. Thank you so much for your wonderful teachings, your gifts of love and for being my spiritual counselor. You helped me in countless ways and through many difficult days. Thank you for embracing me and treating me like your daughter.

And last but certainly not least, to Deacon James Ellison, who was a treasure in itself. If there was ever a man who truly gave his love to each and everyone he came in contact with, you were he. Every Wednesday at Bible Study and Sunday Morning Worship I wanted to be the first in line for my hug.

I miss you all, and I thank you, not only for your love and support but for your wisdom, guidance and the part that you have all played in making me the woman that I am today. I know that you are all smiling down at me and are very proud of my accomplishments.

    Chapter 1

In high school Thomas Knight was, Mister Popular. Homecoming King two years straight, prom king his junior and senior years, high school quarterback, All American in college.

He went on to play pro football for three years but didn’t find any satisfaction in that so he left to satisfy himself in other escapades. Every week he had a different woman. It was getting old, he was getting older. Something was missing from his life. Someone was missing. Thomas had only been in love once in his life.

Back in high school he cared a lot for one special girl but he could not acknowledge her in front of his friends because she was not one of the popular girls, not like his friend’s girls, she was also younger. Back then you stayed with your own click.

These days Thomas found himself alone and weary. Would he ever have anyone to call his own, someone special to come home to at night, that would welcome him with open arms, that would worry about him when he was out of town or came in late or would he always be married to his job.

Thomas had just finished a conversation with an old school friend and business associate, Clarence Baxter. It had turned out to be a long frustrating day.

Janice? Thomas called from his office intercom.

    Yes, Thomas.

Will you hold all of my calls for a couple of hours and see that I am not disturbed? I have a terrible headache that I need to get rid of. He rubbed the center of his forehead with the knuckle of his thumb.

Thomas you do remember that you have a conference call at 3pm with Gordon Banks?

Yes. I remember, but remind me at 2 o’clock.

I will. And I will hold those calls for you.

    Thanks, love.

Not a problem. They disconnect the intercom.

Janice had been Thomas’ secretary for about 4 years at his company in Tennessee so when he came back to Louisiana she relocated to follow him.

She didn’t have any children at home so she adopted Thomas as one of her own. She was a godsend to Thomas. Janice was one of the bright spots in Thomas’ life besides his parents and brothers.

Thomas lay on his office couch and began rubbing his temples. After talking to Clarence for nearly an hour he had an agonizing headache. It had been building up since he woke up earlier that morning, after a dream that had him drenched in a cold sweat. He could not get his mind off the dream.

Thomas dozed off nearly fifteen minutes later. He had been having reoccurring dreams for the past two or three months but he had no idea why they started nor who the mystery woman was. He only remembered the eyes and the body was familiar. Older and more mature but somehow familiar. This time he had a name.

Do you know how much I love you? The woman pulled back looking up into his face.

    You love me?

    Yes baby, I do.

    That’s really funny. she chuckled.

He looked at her, shock consuming his features. What’s so funny about me loving you? Why would you say something like that?

Look, I don’t like when you play games with me.

It’s not a game, Tiffany. I love you very much. I always have. He pulled her closer, but she wouldn’t budge.

If you loved me why would you hurt me? Why would you do the things that you did?

That was a mistake, baby. It was a terrible mistake, one that I truly regret.

Yes it was. I don’t think I can do this. I don’t want to go down that same road with you again, she spat.

He pulled her to him again, ignoring the fact that she was trying to get away. I was young and immature. I knew what I wanted. That, he poked her in the chest, was you. It still is, you. I just didn’t know how to go about getting you and keeping you.

Oh, and now you know how to go about doing that? She chuckled and moved to walk away.

He grabbed her by the wrist and turned her to him. Baby, yes. Just let me show you. He pleaded.

Thomas you had me and then you threw me away like week old bread. You threw me off on someone else.

Baby. He turned her face to his. Baby, I didn’t throw you away.

Then what would you call it, she cried out. Tears shimmering in her eyes.

Don’t cry baby. I’m so sorry. You have to know that I didn’t mean to hurt you and I would do anything for you to accept my love. I can’t do anything about the past, but I can do something about the here and now. I love you and I know that you love me too. We will be good together. His voice was sincere but was he? I know that you love me Tiffany. Let me show you how much I love you. Show you just how good it will be. She looked away but he needed her to see the truth from his eyes. Hey. He turned her face to his. I…Love…You.

Thomas I am so scared of doing this again.

Don’t be scared, baby. We will do this together. We will be one. Let me take care of you. This is our time.

I do love you, Thomas, but I don’t want to be hurt again. Promise you won’t ever hurt me again? It wasn’t a question but a plea.

Baby, all we have is each other and I promise to never hurt you again. Never.

He pulled her to him and without hesitation he lifted her up and carried her to a bed. Whose bed he didn’t know. All he knew was that he had to have her, now. It wasn’t long before he had her and himself undressed except for his shirt.

Baby this is a night that we’ll never forget. I plan to love you from this moment on. Tell me what you want.

Make love to me, Thomas, she moaned when he dipped his head to kiss her lips. Make love to me, now.

    Now?

She nodded her head. Yes. Right now! She grabbed him by his shirt and ripped it open.

    Janice is Mr. Knight in?

Yes, he is, Miss Long, but he asked not to be disturbed.

I’m sure he wasn’t referring to me. We have some very important business to discuss. I’ll just let myself in. She walked away leaving Janice to look at her backside. What Janice really wanted to do was kick her in her backside.

Carla Long and Thomas Knight had attended college together. They also became lovers after he hired her on as a consultant for his brokerage firm. He always had a policy of never to mix business with pleasure but there was a physical attraction that neither one could ignore. It was there in college but she was involved with someone else at the time, but when she came to his neck of the woods, it was on.

But within the past five or six months Thomas had gotten tired of the affair. He didn’t have it in him to keep it going. He wanted more, and Carla Long just was not the woman to give it to him. Carla didn’t care. She figured that she had him wrapped around her little finger and he would give into her. She had her tricks. All she had to do was show up on his doorstep or parade around in his office wearing the tiniest skirt or cleavage revealing blouse and he was hers.

Boy, someone should tell her that she’s not all that.

She saw him laying on the couch with his hands above his head.

    Thomas?

He didn’t answer. She walked over to the couch where he lay, smiled down at him and stood there just staring. It had been months since they had shared this couch, she thought. Or her bed. She wonder what he would do if she seduced him right there. He had been playing hard to get for months now, but today all of that was about to change. She went back and locked the door. She didn’t want them to be disturbed by anyone, especially his busybody secretary, Janice. She took off her shoes, drug her hand up his leg from the knee, up the length of his leg and let it settle in the region of his groin area, where she discovered, bulging behind his zipper.

Well, well, well. what do we have here, she whispered to herself, arching one eyebrow. I might as well satisfy him and myself at the same time. She unfastened her skirt and let it drop to the floor. She stood wearing a brown and pink garter set with stockings and matching thong. She looked at herself in the full length mirror that was mounted on the wall just beside the couch. It was used when Thomas was in a rush to get ready for meetings. He wanted to look his best for his clients.

Looking damn good as ever, she said to herself and proceeded to take full advantage of the situation. She straddled his lower regions, unfastened her blouse to show the pink colored stars that covered her nipples only, and lay on his chest so that they were connected. She kissed him gently and at first she could have sworn he kissed her back.

That’s right baby, give Carla what Carla needs. She kissed him again, using her tongue to trace along the outsides of his lips. He then wrapped his arms around her body, pressing her closer. His hands found their way beneath her shirt and down to her bare bottom where he firmly squeezed and massaged, then he whispered in her ear.

    Tiffany.

Tiffany? She jumped up. Who the hell is Tiffany?"

What? He jumped up too, at Carla’s outburst. His head was now swimming, pounding more rapidly.

You called me Tiffany. She sat on him with her hands on her hip, blouse standing wide open.

Thomas was trying to focus. Carla, what are you doing in her and why are you sitting on me? Naked?

You first. Who in the hell is, Tiffany?

He laughed. Sweetheart, we are not together, so you have no business questioning me about anything and damn sure not anyone. He was a little puzzled himself. Why was he dreaming about Tiffany? They had parted ways years ago. In high school. Why now, would he have intimate thoughts and dreams about her? Maybe she was the one in his dreams lately. The woman never had a face but her body was familiar. Not that he had touched it before but because he knew that walk and the sway of her hips, it was almost intimate. He had kissed the lips before but they were more luscious now, more full.

There was knocking on the door but neither of the two realized it. When he did, Thomas asked Carla to get up and get dressed so that he could get the door. He already knew who it was. He was just wondering how long she had been knocking.

Do you mind? He asked, with a wave of his hand, but she wasn’t in any rush to remove her body from his.

What if I don’t want to get dressed? She stood walking over to the mirror making sure he could see her from the back. Her body was gorgeous and she knew it. Maybe I want to stay like this for the remainder of the day.

Suit yourself. He walked over to open the door.

    You wouldn’t, she whispered.

Wanna bet? He didn’t even glance her way.

Carla knew not to gamble with Thomas, she’d lose. She was rushing then to get herself back together. When Carla finished stepping into her skirt Thomas was opening the door.

Hey Janice. What’s New? He ran his hand over his newly hair cut, looking as guilty as the cat that ate the canary.

She gave him a stern look as if to say boy if you don’t get that girl out of here I will put you over my knee.

He put up his hands. He knew what was coming next. I know, I know. I will take care of it, he whispered.

Thomas, she whispered back. I am really trying to be nice to that woman but she is really starting to tick me off. She’s rude and uncaring. What did you ever see in her? I could only imagine. You need a woman that’s going to love you for you and not your money, that’s what you need.

I know Janice, he whispered back. I’m on top of it.

Make sure that’s all you’re on top of.

Janice! Thomas pretended to be shocked. Some of the thing that came out of that woman’s mouth when it regarded Carla was impossible.

What? Talk to her. Janice did not bite her tongue. If she said it, she meant it.

I’ll make sure that Miss Long understands that you are the boss up here and she is to never again disrupt me or go against anything you say.

Well I hope so because she is getting out of hand. And you know I don’t play that. What she needs is an old fashioned spanking. Janice cringed at the image that came into her mind. And it turned her stomach.

You know, for some reason, I think she might like that a little too much. She tried to shake the disgusting image out of her head.

    Janice! Be nice.

What? I’m being nice. Very nice, which is more than she deserves. And it’s the truth. You, she poked him in the chest, just be careful.

I will. She twisted her lips at him. I promise. And Janice. He pulled her to him and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. Thank you for looking out for me. She looked him in the eyes and patted him on his cheeks.

You’re a good boy. Don’t let that, she pointed into his office, turn you into something you don’t recognize or like.

He smiled, giving her another quick kiss on the cheek and she walked back towards her desk.

Will you continue to hold my calls? Please.

It depends on how long she stays in there with you.

He looked at his watch. It won’t be thirty minutes.

Anything can happen in thirty minutes, Thomas.

Nothing is going to happen. That’s a promise to you and myself. We’ll have to go to lunch so that we can talk about what I’ve been feeling lately. You won’t have to worry about me and this woman or any other woman that I don’t love. There is only one woman I want in my life, and as soon as I can find her I’ll make her mine. And you can take that to the bank. He just hoped Tiffany was available.

Those words brought a smile to Janice’s face. All she wanted was to see Thomas happy. He deserved that much. She had never seen him with a woman that really cared for him or that he really cared for. Oh he tried but it just wouldn’t come. She prayed that he would find the woman that she knew he loved. Thomas didn’t know that she overheard him talking in his sleep one afternoon about three months ago. He was dreaming about a woman and he was smiling. That evening was when he stopped his affair with Carla.

Janice knew then that whoever this woman was she was someone special. She didn’t know her but she needed to meet the woman that put a smile on her boy’s face.

What can I do for you Carla? She was sitting in a chair when he closed his office door.

So, was your crotch bulging nearly out of your pants because of me, or this Tiffany person? She said with more sarcasm than he’s ever heard from her before.

He sat down in his chair behind his desk. Carla was getting on his last nerve. He rubbed his hands across his face and sighed a deep sigh. He was getting frustrated with this woman and her questions. You’d think he was on trial and she was the prosecuting attorney the way she was cross-examining him.

I’ll ask again, seeing as you probably didn’t hear me the first couple of times. What can I do for you, Miss Long? I am a very busy man, as you can see.

You looked like you were asleep to me, and having quite some dream. Maybe even erotic. She wasn’t smiling.

I would have been still asleep if you hadn’t barged in here like you own the damn place, which by the way, you do not. And the next time Janice gives you a message from me, please adhere to it. Whatever she says goes. Don’t try to go over her head again. She tried to talk but he wasn’t having it. Please. He held up his hand. Do as I ask and we won’t have any problems. It’s not a request, it’s an order, he added.

Are you upset because I came in here or because I disturbed your little wet dream? Carla knew she was pushing his buttons but she didn’t care. He’d give in eventually. Or so she thought. You know, she crossed her legs giving him an eye full. Her skirt was damn near to her navel. I could make you forget about your little fantasy girl. I’m just like coke, I’m the real thing.

And just as addicting he thought to himself. But this was one addiction he couldn’t afford to take on.

We have always been good together. When you returned my kiss it was I you were holding and caressing, not this fantasy, Tiffany.

Carla, he folded his arms across his desk and looked her sternly in the face, I am going to say this once more for the woman who can’t seem to understand the word no. We both agreed that this was just to satisfy our hunger for the opposite sex. We could stop it at anytime. No questions asked. I, under no circumstances, do not want to keep this thing between us going. It’s run it’s course and now its over with. I don’t want to have to keep repeating myself. You are a smart woman and that is why you’re here. So act like it. It’s over. Truth be told, it should have never started. We were both lonely and we comforted each other. That’s all.

She looked shame faced. That’s not the case anymore, I guess. This woman, Tiffany, must be something special if I can’t get you to acknowledge me anymore.

This has nothing to do with anyone else. This has to do with me and only me. I want so much more for myself and this isn’t the way to go about getting it. Can you understand that?

Fine Thomas. I get your point.

Well I hope so. I really hope so, because we can’t go on in business like this. She wanted to pretend that she didn’t understand what he meant but her slightly wide eyes told she did. I’m serious Carla. This cannot and will not happen again. If you had been the one to end things you would not be taking this so lightly.

Carla ignored his words. She heard them, just decided to ignore then. She was good and she knew it. He would be a fool to get rid of her.
