    CHAPTER 1

Nathan woke up and saw that it was another cold day. He just took the job for the Lago & Lago team. Nathan just got out of school, and Frank Lago looked him over as he was top of his class.

Nathan would come into the office today for his first day of work. The day would be a day he would remember. The reason was because it was his first day. He got up at 6:00 a.m. He took a shower and got into his new suit.

As he walked out, he was nervous. He thought to himself as he lit a cigar and drove the free Cadillac that came with the job, What would Frank be like?

He met him once in school. He told Nathan he would pay for his schooling and take care of everything. It was like a dream for Nathan. Nathan was looking at living the American Dream.

Nathan wasn’t familiar with New York, but he would learn. Blonde hair and blue eyes, he was a woman’s dream. But he didn’t know women very well.

Nathan knew nothing about the traffic. He came from a small town called Freemont. So when he got into the traffic of downtown, he couldn’t believe it. He waited an hour just to get through three blocks.

He called Frank and told him that the traffic was so bad. Frank said that he was okay. Frank said, Kid, you’re learning already, as he laughed.

Nathan said that he would be in as fast as he could be. Frank said, You’re new, so don’t worry about it. Nathan said thanks and hung up the phone.

He waited in the traffic as he heard what was going on in the area. There was a car crash and a holdup on Route 235. 235 was a main route for workers and semis.

He listened in on the radio as he turned it onto a song by Tupac. The name was Thugz Mansion. As he pulled up closer, the chopper landed to get them to a hospital. He ran over the glass as people flagged them through.

He saw the car and semi that were involved. It looked bad, and he doubted anyone survived. But he saw them take them up as traffic cleared up.

He thought to himself that if he was closer in time, it could have been him. But it cleared up, and he made it to the office. He tried to find a place to park and then saw a place up front.

He parked his car and put out his cigar. He grabbed his briefcase and then walked into the building. As he did, he looked up and saw nine stories.

It was so big inside the building. He went through the stifle doors, and to the left was a receptionist. He looked at her with a smile.

She looked at him like any other person that walked in. She asked, May I help you? Nathan said, Yes, my name is Nathan Wilt.

Ah, Mr. Wilt, it’s nice to meet you. You will have to sign in here every day.

Nathan said, That will be fine, as she smiled back with her cold black hair. She said, If you have any questions, my name is Connie.

She said, If that’s all, take the elevator to floor 5, and you turn left as you see the desk with Megan behind it. She is your secretary.

Nathan said thank-you and left. He looked at the arrow button to the elevator and watched it come down from the top floor. As the door opened, he got in and listened to music. He slowly went up as the ding of the elevator went off, and then he was there.

As he walked out, it was so beautiful. The floor was like a big rug with designs in it. The walls were painted an eggshell to bring out the red carpet. The chandeliers were so big and beautiful.

Megan smiled and said, May I help you, sir? He said, Yes, you can. I’m your new boss, and I’m late. She said, Oh dear, I didn’t know. I’m new.

She said, I will call Frank for your first talk. She added, Go into your office, and I will bring the files for your first case. He said thank-you as he walked straight.

He walked up to the door and couldn’t believe the work it took to make it. Nathan walked in and looked around. As he walked in, he saw the bar to the left and the library on the right, and straight on was his desk and the biggest window that looked over the city.

He walked to the chair that was made of real leather, and it smelled fresh. He laughed as he put his hand over his desk. It was made with the best wood money could buy.

After he looked, the phone beeped, and he hit the button, and Megan said, Frank will see you now. He asked, Where and when? She said, He is in a conference with his latest job.

She said, He will take you out to lunch at twelve. It was October and a cloudy day. He couldn’t believe a good Monday
