Acknowledgments
We thank our Heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus Christ for giving us the assignment of writing this book. We are thankful for the divine process that Holy Spirit has led us through during this season of our lives. We love you dearly.
We thank Vera Ford (Rich’s mother) and Harold Guidry for their love and support in helping this project move forward. We would also like to thank Sharron Hampton (Karla’s mother), Bennie Hampton (Karla’s father) and Jeanette Pittmon (Karla’s grandmother) for their gifts of love that indirectly helped us complete this project.
We thank our pastor, Bishop Keith A. Butler, and our first lady, Pastor Deborah Butler, for having the courage and compassion to start HOPE (Helping Overcome Pregnancy Experiences). It is a place where many married couples can find prayer and hope.
And a very special thanks to Dr. Sharon Miller for writing the foreword and being so dedicated to your profession.
We pray that God will meet your every need and desire for the seeds you have sown into our lives.
With deep gratitude,
Rich and Karla Walker

In my professional opinion, I believe that Pastors Rich and Karla Walker are uniquely qualified to counsel married couples that have been through miscarriages and stillborn births. I believe this for several reasons:
I have personal knowledge of their three losses, and they have given me permission to discuss these briefly. I performed a D and C[1] for the first miscarriage and a laparoscopy[2] for the heterotopic miscarriage, which we refer to as the twins. A heterotopic is when a patient is pregnant in the uterus and concomitantly pregnant in the fallopian tube. This is a fairly uncommon condition but can be devastating to the couple as they lose two babies. Unfortunately, one in five pregnancies ends in a miscarriage, and they have been a part of this statistic. I perform several D and Cs a month, and I observe the emotional pain my patients feel. The five stages of grief are really apparent (i.e., denial, anger, bargaining, defeat, and acceptance).
1 It is one thing to read about the emotional pain of a miscarriage and to sympathize, and it is quite another thing to personally experience the soulful pains of multiple miscarriages and empathize. Pastors Rich and Karla have unique personal insight into this pain.
2 I professionally understand that the first two weeks after losing your baby can be critical. It is a time when the patient feels alone. The physical well-being of the patient is important after their miscarriage or stillborn birth, but I find that the emotional and spiritual well-being is just as important. I know through personal experience that the Walkers have a very strong relationship with God. They have the ability to quickly find and recite biblical references that provide comfort, guidance, and peace to a person or couple dealing with a loss. I believe this book would be a helpful and thought-provoking reference during this two-week period and thereafter.
3 The Walkers’ situation is special because they lost two babies during one of their miscarriages. This is obviously double the grief. Their ability to overcome their own devastating losses as well as their deep desire to minister to others is a testament to their strength to lend a helping hand to others in a similar situation.
4 Lastly, this book is uniquely special because Rich contributes his invaluable insight as a husband who has coauthored this book.
I have personally witnessed Rich’s tender loving care for his wife during their loss. He acknowledged her suffering and simultaneously dealt with his own pain. They have successfully used their strong faith, love, and commitment to each other to deal with their losses. I am confident the Walkers can help women and married couples with open hearts go through their grieving process—comforted and encouraged by the Lord.
This book can be helpful for both patients and physicians dealing with these complex issues.

Who shall ever separate us from Christ’s love? Shall suffering and affliction and tribulation? Or calamity and distress? Or persecution or hunger or destitution or peril or sword? Even as it is written, For Thy sake we are put to death all the day long; we are regarded and counted as sheep for the slaughter. Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us. For I am persuaded beyond doubt (am sure) that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things impending and threatening nor things to come, nor powers,
