M. Cheadle

A writer of many poems to the public, and for friends. Ones with many thoughts of how people’s feelings are affected with life as the world keeps moving on. A fairly, easy going person, sometimes a little blunt, but filled feelings and compassion towards others. Having fun in life is what it is all about, a little each day is a must. I Like to keep busy helping others, whenever possible. I write many times from pictures for fun. I only wish to calm a heart, relax another, lift a spirit, put a twinkle in an eye, motivate a thought, place a little hope in another, remind all there is still a reason that love is the reason God placed us here. Sometimes leave humor from outside the box this is my goal. Leave one thinking. There is more to life than just living. ...mac

    CHAPTER 1

    Missing Partner

It was early spring and things were not going right in ‘Two Doves’s Settlement’. A nice little settlement they had started. Friendly people came, traded spend a few days and move on. Hard time it seemed was falling on them. There seemed at times something was always happening. This just seemed different.

Butch couldn’t imagine what could go wrong next. Some days are like that, he knew all to well. Lately Alice had been sick, and this worried him also. Dale his partner had left about ten days earlier. He’s way over due. His son Pete had been asking questions—like any little three year old can do about a hundred times a day. He needed answers for these questions soon.

The day seemed to have a fresh smell, maybe this was a good sign for once. Alice came into the store a little late, Butch let her rest late. Pete was already out on the checking of everyone outside.

Alice asked, What will we do about Dale being missing, Butch. I hate to talk about this in front of Pete. We have to think about what we can do for Pete. The family needs to know, if something terrible has happened. I sure don’t wish any thing bad on poor Dale. Loosing his wife three years ago was bad enough. Pete is such a sweet child—I have done my best with him. I love him as if he was mine.

"I know what you mean. I would keep the kid in a moment if I could. I just couldn’t hurt his family that way. He sure asked a lot of questions, all of the time. Someday he will be so smart he will have to tell us things.

"Uncle Butch, Uncle Butch look what I found. This paper had lots of writing on it—what kind of paper is it Uncle Butch asked Pete breathing heavy from running into the store.

Well let me take a look here Pete. It is a newspaper son. Where did you find it at boy? I haven’t seen one of these in years. said Butch.

It was left in one of the lean-to where some one spent the night., said Pete. filled with excitement.

"Alice, come over here and look at this. I can’t believe it It is only three weeks old. No pictures in it. Well we will read it after supper tonight.

This will brighten up our day. Something to look forward to tonight Yep!" said Butch with the thought of knowing something new things. How was the rest of the country doing. This sure beat his problems of the day.

It was after supper. Butch had a nice little cabin that was shared with Dale. The had a joining doors to each half of it. This way they were close and safe. They moved Pete’s bed into their spare room. This made him feel safe. Alice while resting was reading the paper, trying to relax.

Butch where is Pete—Is he in bed yet?

"Didn’t Dale have a brother living in Chicago somewhere, do you remember him at all. I though this is where he lived with Jack, his brother. Jack, he always made me laugh, what a guy. Carl and Jack what a pair they made.

Butch where are you? asked Alice.

Alice I am sitting right behind you I just finished the dishes and Pete has been in bed for about an hour or so. That paper really has taken you over. Yes Carl and Jack, did live in Chicago—Why do you ask? remarked Butch.

"It says a Carl and Jack Beams are the owners of this newspaper. Maybe they are the ones we need to write and see if men are Dales brother?—What do you think. I could start the letter tonight. It could help if they were. If it is then—Well it has been years since we saw any of they also.

Butch are you listening? asked Alice. It getting late, let me start it then we get to bed OK?" she finished.

The next day with a letter finished they lay it at
