Chapter 1

HEALING FIRE

In the same way that gold and silver are refined by fire, the Lord purifies your heart by the tests and trials of life. (Proverbs 17: 3 TPT)

The fiery flames of life are painful, but incredible beauty rises from the ashes of my life as I allow God to search my heart. Do you want a vibrant, fiery, and more beautiful life?

Just as fire removes impurities from gold and silver, God’s truth burns away unhealthy influences. And likewise, yielding one’s heart to God’s brilliant thoughts produces fiery life-giving vitality.

We all have choices – what to believe, think, speak, and do. Challenges and traumas are opportunities to consider God’s life-giving principles. Learning and embracing these principles provide greater physical, mental, and spiritual health.

The following short stories contain real people with real stories sharing their struggles, choices, and outcomes. Some are my own. Improved health and relationships happened as we engaged in God’s truth and empowering presence.

For 40-plus years, I’m privileged to serve more than 15,000 individuals as a Registered Nurse and Nationally Certified Hospice Nurse. I witnessed countless examples of love and healing – as well as missed opportunities for improved physical, mental, and spiritual health.

Missed healing opportunities are sometimes due to a lack of knowledge or resistance to changed thinking. Sadly, illness often then downgrades the quality of life.

I call the soul of an individual the spirit-heart. The spirit-heart orchestrates what we think and do through our will, desires, plans, affections, conscience, and beliefs.

All humans come into this world with a less than perfect spirit-heart and genetic DNA. Unfortunately, imperfect DNA and poor influences can harm overall health.

Unhealthy thinking and beliefs can cause 75-98 percent of chronic illnesses.¹ Long-term negative thoughts communicate inflammation to the physical body through chemical hormones. Then disease can occur, and relationships can suffer.²

Genetic testing isn’t necessarily predictive of one’s future health. Behaviors silence genes or activate them along with the environment, spiritual and mental health.³ We don’t have to own Grandma’s diabetes, Grandpa’s alcoholism, Uncle’s depression, or Mom’s cancer gene.

A healthier environment, thought life, and spirit-heart can heal mental and physical illness caused by fear, anxiety, shame, unforgiveness, regrets, and resentment. A disease doesn’t have to limit the quality of your life. There’s more incredible beauty waiting to rise from your life’s ashes.

CONSIDER:

Be inspired to draw near to God’s loving influences without fear. Receive the promises He has waiting for you and know many of your own conquering stories.

A rightly aligned person produces the right deeds from a right spirit, and an evil person produces evil deeds from an evil spirit led heart. Whatever is in your heart determines what you say and do. (Luke 6: 45)

Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things. Those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace. (Romans 8: 5–6)

For we know how dearly God loves us because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. (Romans 5: 5–6)
