About this ebook

SGT Trekk: Life After AIT, When The Real Shits Starts is the first in a series under the moniker SGT Trekk.

The ebook is geared toward newly enlisted soldiers joining the Army. SGT Trekk shares some of his experiences and lessons learned as a National Guardsmen and deployed Veteran. The book isn't about war stories or how to be a super-soldier. The purpose is to provide practical career advice to help any newly enlisted Reservist, Guardsmen, or Active Army soldier.

Some of the subjects covered are the importance of having a mentor, understanding the two types of respect, and EO's effect on military culture. And to be honest, most of these topics can help none-military people too.

    SGT Trekk - Trekk w2ks

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Thank you to my battles gone but not forgotten, to the ones still here and my KAF Family. You helped me learn through experience that wearing the uniform is not only about patriotism but about building bonds that only a few will understand. Thank you to my unofficial mentor Samson Williams, who sparked the idea of this book.

    INTRODUCTION

I'm SGT Trekk and welcome to life after AIT.

I know you have a few questions, like what that means, who's this guy, and why should I continue reading or listening?

First things first, yes, I'm really in the military. I've been a nasty girl, AKA National Guard member, my whole career. Which is going on 9 years now (at the time of writing.)

I've done 2 tours. No, I've never been in a firefight or had to shoot anyone.

My first mob (mobilization) was Afghanistan 2013-14. And my second was Kuwait 2016-17. Yes, my DD-214 has some awards. No stolen valor or clout chasing over here. You'll hear people say a mob is a mob. Honestly, it's true and not at the same time. Each one has its own nuances in the experiences you have. But there are similarities which is why you'll be able to connect/relate with other people who've deployed, even if in different areas at different times. I had more fun on my 1st mob than my second (#KafFam), but I digress. That's something you'll understand after more than 1 mob.

So, what's the point of this eBook? First, it's about sharing the more helpful things I learned the importance of doing over the years. And second, the book is directed at the new Joe/Janes coming in but isn't limited to just fuzzies. If you're in a leadership role, I know this is something that can help you too.

Maybe it's because I came in as an older soldier (already a parent too), but it's something I've gotten in the habit of, passing these things on to soldiers in any unit I'm in. And I'm not just talking about being in the right place, at the right time, in the right uniform. I'm covering the more practical part of being a soldier.

This isn't a step-by-step on how to be an E7 in five years. That could never happen, by the way. These are some basic things you can do, whether in the National Guard, Reserve, or Active Army (aka Big Army), to start your military career on a good foot.

Also, this is directed at the non-commissioned side of the house. But if you choose to go to the dark
