Walter is a two Act play, non-fiction, true events. From the time that Walter was born premature in 1951 at 3 1/2 months, he was given a dire prognosis that he would be Mentally Retarded, and he would face some difficult times in the years to come. His parent were told it was best to Institutionalize him then take the baby home. Soon after his premature birth, an additional illness left Walter with a facial deformity that left him with paralysis of the right side of his face, a total hearing loss in one Ear with Seventh Cranial nerve brain damage. In the mirror he always saw a lopsided face, was inflicted with a stutter & stammer, and had a very dim few of life. To escape these trials & tribulations Walter would daydream about becoming a famous person who has overcome his personal demons and the Bullies that tormented him for many years in Public School. Our story starts in 1959 with Walter having one of those unfair times in his life and our story ends many decades later. Walter always felt that it wasn't fair that God would allow him to suffer so much in life.

I have been active in Community Service: Past Board Member of the Vine Neighborhood Association (3 terms), Membership Chair, Fund Raising Committee, Board secretary and interim Board Treasurer. Past member of the Recipient Rights Committee, County Mental Health Board. KVCC Public Museum Volunteer for 20 years. Involved in Community Theater for 50 years off and on most recent with the Kalamazoo Civic Theater since 1985. I have been apart of a Disaster Relief team for Hurricane Andrew in Florida helping feed 5000 people a day. I have be a home missionary worker with a local church administrating a shelter program for the homeless, Minister of the food Ministry, cook, and procurement of emergency food pantry items 1991-1992, I am a graduate of Kalamazoo Valley Community College 1998, Studies at Western Michigan University, Studies at Lansing Community College 1975, Graduate of Davenport College of Business 1974. Graduated Portland High School at age 21 in 1970. I was born in 1951 premature Twin with developmental issues, Learnings disabilities, and hearing impaired.

    Act I

    Scene One

    Bedroom 1959

    Day Dreaming

    [Scene One opens with lights low on bedroom scene and doorframe and voice of the mother is heard off stage left with Walter leaning in the doorway his back to audience.]

    Mother:

    (Voice off stage Right in an exasperated tone)

    [Lights very low on bedroom scene, Medium spot is on Walter, Walter always keep the right side of his face in shadows away from audience]

    Walter, are you going to daydream the rest of your life away? Wake up boy, there's a real world out there. You will not find any success in your dreams. You got to clear the clouds away and see the blue skies above. Are you listening to me boy, or have you gone into this fantasy world of yours, where you find only regrets when you wake up? It’s bad enough that your teacher says you disrupt the class with your daydreaming, and she has to stop everything and wake you up from where ever you mind is wandering to. I give up son, one
