About this ebook
“Am I Worthy Lord” the play is a story of a Claudia Procula, Pilates wife, who discovers many doubts in her life, and a longing that is fueled by Joanna, her maidservant, a young Hebrew women who share’s with her mistress the joy, and wonders of hearing Christ speak, the miracles she saw Christ perform, the sadness of his death, and finally, the discovery of his ascension. Both women experience emotional highs and lows over the events surrounding Christ since his journey into Jerusalem for Passover, their secret meeting together below the Upper Room at Pentecost, and finally, Claudia’s and Joanna’s visit to Cornelius, where Claudia’s doubts are erased by the message Peter delivers to Cornelius, and his guest. In two Acts we see Joanna a character right out of the New Testament, convince Claudia Procula the wife of Pontius Pilate to overcome her doubts about this one God of the Jews and the fact that Jesus Christ rose from the grave. Claudia troubled by her dreams in the night prior to her husband fateful encounter with Jesus, tries to discourage Pilate to have nothing to do with this man. History tells us that Claudia was the Granddaughter of a Caesar of Rome, and an educated women of her times in the Philosophies of that era. Claudia begins to doubt the Roman pantheon of Gods and with Joanna’s help she witnesses much in Jerusalem regarding this Son of God. She wonders as a Gentile, is she worthy of Christ love and forgiveness of her sins. When she meets with Cornelius on the day, Peter delivers his message regarding the very doubts about being a Gentile. Claudia finds her answer. Now history suggest that it is possible that Claudia Procula became a Christian. The play presents that possibility.

PLAY SYNOPSIS
I would like to introduce to you a new play; one I hope will be refreshing, and unique in its storytelling about a woman who, with the help of her maidservant, Joanna, on loan from Herod’s household, discovers the meaning of her troubled dreams of a man. Claudia Procula, the wife of Pontius Pilate is troubled by her dreams of a man she has never met. The events that follow are recorded in the Bible regarding Claudia’s involvement on the day Pilate passes judgment on Jesus. What happens later in Claudia’s life is speculation, yet possible to believe. Political historian’s write that Claudia, a woman of learning, the Granddaughter of a Caesar, was very much affected by her husband’s decision, and her dreams. Am I Worthy Lord
is a new drama, with the soliloquies touching the very soul of Claudia fears, and doubts, and showing Joanna’s love for Christ.
Act I
Scene One
NARRATOR:
(Setting in spot light stage left)
This is a story of one women’s fears, and the determination to find the answer to her fears. Led by her maidservant Joanna she is led through the city of Jerusalem, and the countryside to find these answers. Although she is critical of her discoveries, and doubts each step of her journey, she comes to find the answer to all who would ask;
Am I worthy Lord?" Our play opens with Claudia Procula, the granddaughter of a Caesar and wife of Pontius Pilate, Fifth Roman Procurator to Judea; Claudia is a woman of learning and has an education in the philosophies of her time. Claudia is troubled by insomnia, and the dreams of a man. Unaware, Claudia will play a small part in history when she dares to interfere with the affairs of her husband Pontius Pilate, on the day Jesus was brought before Pilate’s judgment seat. We find Claudia in her bedchamber, tossing and turning in her bed, troubled by her dreams. Her new maidservant Joanna has just arrived on loan from Herod’s household. (Curtain opens as spot on narrator fades)
Claudia:
(You are tossing and turning on your bed, then awake suddenly, dazed, and unfocused, you get up and go to your dressing table, fetch your comb, and return to sit at your bedside combing your hair with slow deliberate strokes.)
Joanna:
(You enter when Claudia as returned to her bedside, rush over to Claudia, going to your knees, head down, speak rapidly.)
Mistress forgive me for being late, (catch your breath) there was a great stirring in Herod’s household. I could not come to you until he gave leave of me. (Looking up to Claudia) You know how Herod is.
Claudia:
(You reach for Joanna pull her up off her knees and motion for her to set beside you on the bed; while still combing your hair.)
Slow down girl sit beside me here, tell me all about this great stirring in Herod’s house. (You give a sigh of relief) I
