    It's All About Self-Confidence and Self-Esteem - Scott Warner

    Introduction

Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.

    ~ Norman Vincent Peale

The quote above embodies all the things that confidence is, and self-confidence should be. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines confidence in a number of ways:

The root word comes from the Latin word for confidential, which means to trust in oneself (Merriam-Webster, 2020).

One thing is certain when it comes to self-confidence, and that is we’ve all experienced days when our self-confidence has either taken a knock or it seems to have left us completely. During these times we find ourselves second-guessing almost every move or decision we make. We find it hard to trust that we’re making the right decisions, behaving in the right way, or doing what’s best for us and possibly those around us.

If you’re currently reading this book right now, chances are you have or possibly still battle with self-confidence. Maybe you have low self-esteem because you’ve been conditioned to think less of yourself than you should. I’m here to tell you that it is possible to build a stronger self-confident personality, along with high self-esteem, which will ultimately result in a more comfortable, peaceful, and enjoyable life.

The whole purpose of It’s All About Self-confidence and Self-esteem the Way to a Better Life!: How to be More Confident and Start Thinking Positive, Improve Your Self-esteem, Improve Your Focus, Positive Self Talk, Mindfulness and Meditation. Overcome Fear, Stress and Anxiety. Manage Your Emotions is to help you navigate and find your way past things that may have been holding you back up until this point in your life.

Gaining confidence can lead to a life that is full and satisfying. Yes, there are bound to be setbacks and failures along the way, but that’s okay. It’s not these setbacks or failures that define us—instead, it’s how we choose to handle them and whether we decide to learn from them or not.

Throughout this book and the chapters that follow we’re going to explore ways to develop a positive attitude toward life’s endeavors. This will result in a life that’s peaceful and happy, which is possibly one of the ultimate goals we all have. The way we're going to do this is by:

This book is for anyone who needs to boost their confidence levels. You may be thinking that it’s too late for you to get there because you’re too old or too set in your ways. I’m here to tell you that there’s no such thing as ever being too old to gain self-esteem and build self-confidence.

This book is designed to help you set goals for yourself through positive thinking without being sabotaged by that negative inner voice that so often tells us that we can’t. It’s time to learn to ignore that inner voice for good. By setting smaller, achievable goals to start with, you can begin to build momentum toward achieving those larger goals.

A large part of gaining self-confidence and self-esteem is accepting responsibility for yourself, your choices, and your actions.

Believe in yourself that it’s not only possible for you to change, but you can change for the better.

It’s so much easier to track the changes you’ve been able to make successfully if you find ways to monitor your progress. Keeping some accurate records will help you look back on your journey someday and realize how far you’ve come.

Making changes in your life can be challenging, especially if you happen to be a people pleaser. One of the key lessons to be learned is not to care what others think of you. It should be all about you choosing to do way more of what makes you genuinely happy.

In It’s All About Self-confidence and Self-esteem the Way to a Better Life!: How to be More Confident and Start Thinking Positive, Improve Your Self-esteem, Improve Your Focus, Positive Self Talk, Mindfulness and Meditation. Overcome Fear, Stress and Anxiety. Manage Your Emotions, the main takeaway is for you to be able to feel confident in yourself in any situation.

    Discover ways to:

Having multiple goals that you’re trying to achieve simultaneously is like trying to juggle too many balls in the air at once and not having the skills of a juggler. It goes without saying that the chances of being able to keep each of these airborne at the same time is highly unlikely. This can leave us feeling disappointed in ourselves, which is the complete opposite effect of what we’re trying to achieve.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you. At the age of 64, I came to a crossroads in my life where I even needed to develop more self-confidence and self-esteem. If this book can assist you in even the slightest way, then I’ve been able to achieve what I’ve set out to do. Let’s get started and find out how this book can help you move forward in your life.

    Chapter 1: Do Good

Doing Good is a simple and universal vision. A vision to which each and every one of us can connect and contribute to its realization. A vision based on the belief that by doing good deeds, positive thinking and affirmative choice of words, feelings and actions, we can enhance goodness in the world.

    ~ Shari Arison

Let’s start this process of developing self-confidence and self-esteem by removing the focus from yourself for a while. When was the last time you thought about doing something good for somebody else? There are so many reasons why choosing to do this on a regular basis can help bolster your self-confidence. Doing good often provides you with a rush of feel good hormones. There are scientific reasons for this, even though we may believe that we’re totally in control of each of our thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

    Reduced Hypertension and Stress

There have actually been studies conducted between 2006 and 2010 with individuals who were older than 50 to identify whether there was a connection between reduced hypertension and volunteering. They discovered that people who spent more than 200 hours volunteering in a 12-month period were less likely to suffer from hypertension (Sneed & Cohen, 2013).

It wasn’t just a question of being able to reduce hypertension, there are several other benefits to doing good that relate to our own health. One of these reasons was that stress levels could be reduced by choosing to perform good deeds no matter the size.

    Generosity

Social psychologist Liz Dunn conducted an experiment in 2010 which was linked to financial generosity. The purpose of this research was to align how happy individuals felt by sharing wealth. In this experiment, individuals were giving the same amount of money with the only instruction being that they could either keep the money for themselves or give as much of it away as they wanted.

The end result was identical time and time again. Those that were generous in giving the money away were happiest. On the contrary—those who decided to keep the money for themselves experienced a sense of shame. This in turn led to an increase in cortisol levels. Because cortisol is a stress hormone, it often leads to anxiety and emotional distress. This can ultimately lead to other chronic diseases. The final conclusion of this experiment was that generosity can be intertwined with living longer (Scientific American, 2010).

The interesting thing about generosity is that it doesn’t always need to be linked to money. There are many other ways we can be generous. Some of these include being generous with our time, sharing our talents with those around us, and generally being prepared to freely give of ourselves.

    Examples of Doing Good

There are many ways you can put yourself out there and offer something of yourself without it having to turn into something massive that puts you under pressure. Here’s a brief list of some of the things you could choose to do:

As you can see, the above list is by no means exhaustive. There are just so many different ways for you to do good and show those around you that you care. Sometimes it’s a simple direct message to let the person know that you’re thinking about them. I’m sure you can relate to receiving one of these messages from someone when it was least expected but most necessary. There’s no better feeling in the world than being on the receiving end of someone who’s been prepared to possibly step out of their comfort zone to do something selfless that has
