    About the Author

    Introduction

Even before I learned to read, I was enthralled with the beginnings of stories. Why? Because it was in the beginning that all was well. In the beginning was before the utter confusion, before the characters made mistakes or chose the wrong paths. At the start of each chapter, I didn’t have to worry about the call to adventure, the long, arduous journey, or the great battle. It was safe inside those first two chapters, and no one ever strayed outside of the author’s script. I did, however, begin to feel apprehensive in the middle of the story. As I turned more pages not knowing what to expect, I cringed at every wrong decision the main characters made. This is how it was in the Bible that I read, and this is how it was in my life. Now, looking back, I realize that God was doing His best work during the middle of my own story. In the middle of my disappointments, challenges, and triumphs, God remained by my side, leading me through life. Walking through my hometown libraries, I often wondered how many of my stories remained untouched and unfinished because I was too afraid to finish them. I realize now that this same regret happens as people allow the setbacks of their hearts to constrict them from walking with Christ. We can choose to remain safe and timid within our life stories’ first pages or dare to journey with Jesus. The only way for a believer to reach the destination is to walk by faith through the middle of it.

It is often said in sermons that people are either going through, coming out of or about to run head-first into a storm. I’ve found on my journey that this metaphor’s point is that life is always filled with swift transitions… but it’s how you handle them that counts. The choices that you made in the past don’t have to define who you are now or who you will be in the future. However, the principles that you live by today can shape your future. The character within the believer chooses daringly to press forward regardless of what comes their way. A believer knows that storms are terrible, but they wholeheartedly rely on God for deliverance. These storms may be people, places, or past or even current personal problems that come into our lives. God has a plan for our lives, but if we allow them, the storms will change our stories’ narrative. True believers, however, will focus on Jesus during the storms of life.
