About this ebook

As a single parent, do you ever feel like you're just winging it until your child turns eighteen, and then it will be all over? <>

Often, single parents have nowhere to turn for advice on day-to-day issues because many live in semi-isolation or are hidden within society, even in the church. Proverbs for the Single Parent uses the book of Proverbs from the Bible written by King Solomon, who was known at the time to be the wisest person on the planet. According to Webster's Dictionary, a proverb is a truth based on common sense and experience. There is so little out there that addresses the true, deeper issues of life like Proverbs does.

This devotion will help the reader with so many questions, struggles, and the pain of single parenting. It includes insight and prayers from the author, who has lived it out for over 30 years.

This is not your average devotional because it is not meant to be read on a schedule or even in order because most parents with young children are much too stretched and busy for that. Each page, written as a letter just for you, has an adjoining page for journaling your responses.

Whether you're a single mom, dad, or even grandparent, or know someone who is with strong faith or no faith at all this book has many useful insights and nuggets handpicked just for you; The Single Parent.

    About the Author

To my Heavenly Father who rescued me, my earthly Dad who told me to never give up the mission, and my big brother Mike who has always been my encourager.

    Introduction

Most people have heard the stories about King David of Jerusalem and how he was a man after God's own heart, even though it was no secret he made many personal and public mistakes during his life and reign. His greatest dream was to honor God by building a permanent place for God to dwell. He worked on this plan diligently. Sadly, toward the end of David's life, he was told by God that because of some things he had done, it would instead be his son Solomon who would complete the plans and the building of the temple. Solomon, when told by the God of the Universe that he could have anything on earth that he wanted, simply asked for wisdom. He understood, as should most of us by now, that without wisdom, eventually the decisions we make are going to lead us to the wrong ones. But where does wisdom come from? Whether King Solomon was already wise and that's why he asked for wisdom or he truly became gifted with it by God after the request doesn't really matter. I, for one, am grateful he did and that he wrote most of the book of Proverbs to pass this wisdom along. We, too, can ask God for it above all things, and my hope and prayer is that by reading these pages and the biblical references and following through with the prayers included, you, too, can start to see that, like Solomon, if we humble ourselves and focus on having God's wisdom and insight in every circumstance, we and our families can move on more victoriously and more stable than we ever have before. In my opinion, and I know millions would agree being a parent is the toughest job on earth. Being a single parent is tougher still. I should know. I've been doing it for a very long time—decades, in fact. But if we are walking with our Heavenly Father every day, we can't help but do it well. You don't have to trust me on that, but we do need to trust Him. There is no specific order for reading through this book. Wherever the Holy Spirit leads you, page by page, is the best. Each is written as a letter just for you for the day. He knows what's going on each second of the day and loves to guide us. Also, although each page usually references only one verse in a chapter, I recommend you read the whole chapter through to get a very detailed image of what the writer was trying to say. Blessings and power to you as we read through the book of Proverbs together, single-parent friends. It's been a blessing to dive into it again to share scripture, thoughts, and prayers
