Making New Friends

His legs are short and his heart is gigantic. Shorty is perhaps the most helpful dog who has ever lived. Should anyone who could use a helping paw cross the path of this darling dog they can rest assured that help has arrived!

But perhaps you have never had the pleasure of meeting our Shorty. He is a Long-Haired Miniature Dachshund and he lives right here in our own neighborhood. As a matter of fact, he lives right here on this very block. With an extremely lively step and the most helpful of natures, he is quite the handy fellow to have around. But more important than anything else is the love in his heart.

Since you have just moved here it seems unlikely that you know anyone yet, except for me of course. That can be such an uncomfortable situation to be in. A new house, in a new neighborhood, surrounded by people you do not know. And of course, attending a new school where you are the new kid. Upon making his acquaintance you will quickly feel as if Shorty understands just what it is you are going through. You will also find that he truly cares and wants to be your best friend.

I can well remember when I first moved here. Knowing not a soul on the block I would often take the opportunity to spend time outside working in my garden among the flowers and plants I have always enjoyed so much. On that memorable day I was sitting on the grass while pulling weeds from the flower bed over there. Do you see it, the one with the rose bushes? So, there I sat pulling weeds and to be honest feeling rather sad and lonely. When to my surprise I was no longer working in the garden alone.

While it is true that I was a bit startled, my curiosity soon got the better of me and I turned to see who was gardening by my side. And that is when I saw him!
