FOREWORD

I remember when I became aware of the power of the verbal and nonverbal messages I received as a child.

I was 21 years old and had just graduated from college. I decided to celebrate by visiting my Aunt Helen in her beautiful New York City apartment. We had always had a strong connection, and as a result of this particular visit, I felt even closer to her because she was the one who opened my eyes.

One morning, while sipping our breakfast coffee, she gently asked me questions about the dynamics between my mother, father, sister and myself. She didn’t judge anyone or comment on what I said, but she did register surprise at many of my answers. It was clear she saw things much differently and with greater insight than I did. As a result of that one conversation years ago, I saw my family with greater clarity than ever before, and for that I will always be grateful to my wonderful Aunt Helen.

Since that visit, I have been fascinated by the impact our early programming has on our lives. When I began studying astrology in 1966, my interest intensified because I realized the birth chart contains these hidden messages, and these messages become our life stories! What a profound discovery!

In 1982, I wrote a book called Hidden Messages, which was published by the American Federation of Astrologers. Over the years I learned more about these messages and the planets that rule the people who deliver them: our mother, father, family, matriarch and older should and ought to authority figures. I have included this information in Hidden Messages in Your Birth Chart, the updated version of my original book, Hidden Messages.

INTRODUCTION

I’ve been married twice, and each marriage ended in divorce. Will I ever find true love?

I throw myself into my work and I’m very good at my job, but when it comes time for a promotion, I am overlooked. What am I doing wrong?

Will my children ever forgive me for divorcing their father? I would give anything to have a relationship with them and my grandchildren.

I’m at a crossroads in my life. I’ve been at the same company for twenty years, and I feel I’m ready for a new career, but I don’t know what I want to do.

I’ve always felt I was meant to do something important with my life, something that would help humanity, but I don’t know what that is.

These are the questions I hear daily from my clients, and the answer to each one is that it all goes back to our childhood programming. By this I mean the verbal and non-verbal, obvious and hidden messages we received as children from the authority figures in our lives.

For example, if our parents argued and never got along, that is what we will, unknowingly, create in all our relationships. If they favored one child over another, we will, unknowingly, do the same thing with our own children. If our father never achieved the financial success he wanted, we will, unknowingly hold ourselves back from financial success. Even if we rebel against these messages, they are still alive and well, and still running our lives.

Astrology is a marvelous cosmic science, and the birth chart contains all the messages, both verbal and non-verbal, obvious and hidden, that comprise our life story. All we have to do interpret them. Once we know what they are, we can change them.

That is why I wrote this book.

PROGRAMMING

Nikki was an extremely beautiful woman in her mid-thirties. She was also an extremely successful businesswoman, equal to or better than many men in her field. She’d come to me for a consultation because she was considering remarrying. Although her two previous marriages had been unsuccessful, she longed for a man with whom she could be happy. She was in my office because she honestly wondered if that were possible.

In the course of the consultation, she shared that her mother had been married several times. Each time Nikki got married, her mother encouraged her to leave her husband. Message: marry, but don’t stay married. As a child, Nikki saw her mother win every argument with each of her husbands. Message: argue with men and win. Nikki’s father was strong, but distant and unaffectionate. Message: men are distant and unaffectionate. Each of her stepfathers put up a good fight, but ultimately, they left. Message: men will give up and leave. Her mother was successful in her career. Message: be a success in your career. These are just a few of the messages that surfaced during our first meeting.

The combination of verbal and non-verbal (hidden) messages produced a woman who resented men yet kept turning to them to make her happy. Because she was programmed for marriage to be stormy and men to leave her, that is what she attracted. She married strong men
