Chinese astrology is a unique system that assigns each year, starting on the New Moon in January or February and ending 12 or 13 New Moons later, to a different animal in a 12-year cycle in the following order: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit (or Cat), Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat (or Sheep), Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. Each animal in turn is classified by an element: Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, and Earth, meaning that the same animal-element combination recurs every 60 years.
This is the year of the Water Rabbit, which lasts from January 22, 2023 to February 9, 2024, and like the animal it personifies, this year promises to bring optimism, happiness, and peaceful co-existence to the world.
