Rapid Weight Loss Hypnosis For Women - Tyler Joy

    Introduction

A mustached man, wearing a waistcoat, with a pocket watch in his hand. It is gently swinging back and forth while he introduces himself to the audience. He walks around the stage with the authority of an Army major, but his voice is calm and soothing. He calls volunteers forward from the audience, daring those who believe that their minds are immune to the power of hypnosis to share the stage with him. One or two brave souls put their hands up and reluctantly take their seats in the spotlight. The man starts swinging the pocket watch in front of the volunteers’ eyes. They are instructed to listen to his voice only and he tells them that they are getting very, very sleepy. Soon one is quacking around on stage like a duck and another one is doing the full dance routine from Single ladies for the entertainment of the audience.

When most people hear the word hypnosis this is probably one of the first images that pop into their minds. This idea of a mystical stranger who has the power to manipulate a person into doing whatever he or she wants them to do.

As children, we were introduced to the concept of hypnotism through cartoons when one character hypnotized another with the aid of a particular device, resulting in hilarious consequences for whichever character unfortunate enough to be hypnotized.

The ease with which a person can be hypnotized once you let your guard down in front of a hypnotist is probably the most common misconception about hypnotism that was created by the media.

Another misconception that has been created, thanks to television and movies, is centered on the premise that it is a tool that can be used to brainwash people to act in ways that they normally would not, with more than one hypnotherapist on the small screen convincing a gullible sap to go on a murder spree at their behest.

There is also a general perception amongst a large proportion of the Christian faith that hypnosis is a portal for demonic influence since your ability to make decisions and think critically is switched off, making a believer more susceptible to negative influences and demonic attacks.

Getting into a religious discussion about hypnosis (and meditation for that matter) is beyond the realm of this book, and it would be best to discuss the subject in greater detail with your religious leaders if, by the end of our time together, you realize that hypnosis might be a useful tool for you to explore but your community and beliefs may be opposed to you seeking help.

Some other commonly held beliefs that I have encountered in the past about hypnosis include the fact that children can hypnotize one another when they are playing. Then men can use hypnosis to get women to drop their guard and be more open to sexual advances.

And, no — you cannot be hypnotized by this book if you read it or listen to it via any audio channels. The written word is powerful, but not that powerful.

When it comes to hypnosis, it is easier to believe what the media tells us to believe, than it is to do our own critical analysis of the concept since the whole concept is so vague, to begin with. The fact that science cannot accurately and effectively explain how a person can be hypnotized, and what really happens inside the mind when a person is hypnotized, further causes confusion and uncertainty as to if and why this is something that should be taken seriously.

However, all of these commonly held (false) ideas and opinions are potentially withholding valuable treatment options from those that need it the most, and who are running out of other options to overcome life-threatening mental and physical ailments.

Obesity is one of the diseases in which hypnosis can actually be an effective treatment, but, as it stands, it is not currently being seen as a preferred method of treatment — either as a direct treatment tool or as a supplementary tool to other more commonly used interventions (Editorial: Hypnosis for Obesity? 1979)

Over the past few centuries, food has become more easily accessible and the need for physical activity has decreased, which has led to a global increase in people of all ages becoming overweight or obese. Essentially, we don’t have to put as much effort into procuring food, like our ancestors, it is a less stressful experience due to the rise of convenience.

Whether you are referring to your own weight issues or the weight issues of an entire nation, it is important to remember one thing-obesity does not happen overnight. It is the result of bad food-related habits that have been entrenched in society and households over the past few decades.

Is the situation really as bad as we have been led to believe?

According to Holland (2017) more than two-thirds of adults in the United States of America can be classified as being either overweight (32.5 %) or obese (36.5%) and the numbers keep on rising. Unfortunately, it is not only adults that have fallen victim to obesity, with around 17% of children between the ages of 2 and 19 also being considered obese.

The Centres for Disease Control (2018) published data that indicate a rise of nearly 12% in obesity prevalence between 1999 and 2018, with severe obesity increasing by 4.5% in the corresponding time period. It is estimated that the cost of obesity in the United States of America amounted to $ 147 billion in 2008.

Is obesity, or being overweight, all in the mind or are there actually indicators that one can use to determine if a person’s weight could potentially be unhealthy?

According to Hales (Hales et al., Prevalence of Obesity and Severe Obesity among Adults: United States, 2017-2018 Key Findings Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey), a person is classified as obese if their Body Mass Index (BMI) exceeds a measurement of 30 while persons who are severely obese have a BMI greater than, or equal to, 40. The CDC (2020) indicates that a person with a BMI of between 25.0 and up to, but less than, 30 can be considered as being overweight.

In order to calculate your BMI, you basically divide your weight by the square of your height. We will not go into significant detail into the maths right now, but there are several tools available on the internet that can help you calculate your BMI if it was not previously done by a healthcare provider.

It should, however, be remembered that the BMI is only used as a screening tool and not as a diagnostic one in order to determine the health of an individual (CDC, 2020), but we will still be using it as a metric throughout in order to ensure consistency when referencing certain aspects of health.

Getting back to the facts at hand. The extra weight that Americans are carrying around is costing billions of dollars annually, and conventional interventions aren’t making a difference, so maybe it is time to approach this from an unconventional perspective.

Kaplan (2015) postulates that there might be much more to the premise of a healthy mind is a healthy body, and that greater focus should be placed on the relationship between our emotions and our behaviors when we are looking at long-term behavior change. This is what is truly required when looking at sustainable weight loss and the maintenance of this after the fact.

More often than not, the biggest barrier you will face on your weight loss journey is yourself. Who we are, at any given moment in time, is the sum of all the experiences we have had up to that point, and it is those experiences that shape our views of not only others but also of ourselves. That said, it can also be correlated that this is a driving force behind our behaviors as well.

We should start viewing mental health as the foundation of our overall health and wellness. If the foundation of any house is shoddy, the building will, in all likelihood, collapse, or at least the walls will start cracking when it is put under pressure. We should view our bodies in the same way, if we don’t take care of what is happening in our conscious and subconscious minds, the cracks will start to show whenever we get shaken up. Therefore, it just seems like a logical outcome that our bodies will become overweight and sick if we are not focusing our minds on health and happiness.

In studies done by Stradling et al (1998), the researchers look at the weight loss trajectory for 60 patients over a period of 18 months. All these patients had a BMI in excess of 30 and had other significant health concerns as a result of their obesity. The patients were split into three equally sized groups. All patients in the study received dietary advice, but for one group that was the only intervention used. The remaining two groups also received hypnotherapy with the focus for one group being food avoidance and stress reduction for the other.

Though the results over the 18
