Interviewer: Hello my name is Trever, a writer for Always Military an online magazine, and I will be interviewing Staff Sergeant Mathew Marcus and his wife Heather for a segment on injured soldiers.

Sergeant Marcus was with the National Guard in Colorado and deployed to Iraq in 2009 where some months later he was shot by a sniper and almost died from his injuries.

This interview will touch on the impact the injuries had on him and his family and the consequences that have resulted from this terrible action.

Sergeant Marcus and Mrs. Marcus thank you for agreeing to this interview.

Mathew: Thank you for asking us and please call me Matt, I haven’t been on active duty for quite a while and even when I was active I never did get used to that title.

Heather: Please call me Heather, being called Mrs. Marcus is just too impersonal plus honestly it makes me feel like I’m an old lady which I am definitely not.

Interviewer: Alright then Matt and Heather thank you again for agreeing to this interview, if you don’t mind let’s get some background on the two of you. Where did you two meet and how old were you two?

Heather: Wow that was a long time
