LOVE
Overthinker
Trust the overthinker who tells you they love you.
They have, most assuredly, thought of every reason not to.
Our Reality
Our connection is the strangest normal I have ever known.
Common sense says this makes no sense,
but my heart calls bullshit.
Each a mirror image of the other.
Yet, both of us failing to recognize the same value in ourselves.
My wish is that this dream truly is our reality.
Found
You found me,
and loved me,
when I found myself unlovable.
Touch Me
This moment has been years, and
tears, and fears in the making.
We stand face to face with all
walls down.
Just know that when you touch me
for the first time, you can't get any
closer than you've been before.
For you've already touched my soul.
Sunday Morning
I stand before your altar, my soul laid bare;
praying that I find words to give glory to your worth.
While at my darkest, your light shone down
until I was able to lift my head again.
While choking on betrayal, you breathed life
into my trust-weary soul.
While fearing attachment, I found my salvation
in your embrace.
For your unwavering devotion I owe a debt
that I will spend this lifetime repaying.
To you I surrender all that I have become, and
I vow to adore you until I draw last breath.
My Heart's Hero
You, single-handedly,
rebuilt the bridge between
despair and hope.
No matter the miles,
or the time between us,
you will forever be
my heart's hero.
From Heaven
Where did he come from?
This man who supports my every crazy idea,
celebrates every victory, and encourages me
through every defeat.
The same man who doesn't think me silly when I cry
over romantic memes, or when he sends me flowers
at work, for no reason.
The man that will stand toe-to-toe with me
when I get feisty and doesn't hesitate to tell me
I'm wrong, nor explain why he believes so.
This man who has stolen my heart must surely
have been dropped from Heaven.
Vengeance
I have something that I must tell you.
There's no need for you to reply, but
it's imperative that I get this off my
chest. I'm going to love you like
you've never been loved before.
Those others before me were
just playing around. I'm
going to love you with
a vengeance.
Tell The Story
I was thinking back to that first time, years ago, when you
invited me over. You lived in that tiny garage apartment.
Your favorite Harley blanket was spread out on the floor
and you had set up a picnic with really tall candlesticks
and candles that drip colored wax.
You ordered pizza and the delivery guy almost died
laughing when he saw the spread. We laughed with him.
Just as hard. You poured beer into blue plastic champagne
glasses that you bought at the local discount store.
Frank Sinatra played in the background, and it was
magical. Then you handed me a small box wrapped
in purple paper because you knew it was my
favorite color.
Inside the box was a salt shaker shaped like an eggplant.
I knew that you chose the eggplant because it was purple,
too. I remember how puzzled I was by such a strange gift.
You held my face in both your hands telling me that it
was my one half year anniversary gift, and that I would
get the pepper shaker in six months.
As I stood there staring in your eyes, with tears streaming
down my face the CD changed to Barry White. It was so
romantic as we danced down the hallway.
The next morning I work up in the t-shirt that you went
to bed wearing.
Late
She takes her whiskey neat,
and her fun seriously.
She howls at the Crescent Moon
because the crowd is smaller.
Since forgiving herself
she forgives others more quickly.
And she's never late,
even though love is.
This One Is
You're concerned we have nothing new
to discover about love,
but there's no need to worry, my darling.
Yes, we've both done this before
and past failures seem to up the ante.
But, we have never been the two people
that we are right now, in this time of our lives.
Love may not be new to either of us;
but, this one is.
Fearlessly
I have loved fearlessly with no
waiver toward cowardice.
In shadow, and in total darkness.
Imagine how profoundly I will love
when love comes in light.
Innocence's Kiss
A bottle twist
Becomes a kiss,
On an Autumn's night years
