    A Special Thank You

THE AUTHOR WISHES TO SEND SPECIAL THANKS TO:

James Girard and Steve McQueen (that’s right) for their incredible technical and creative skills and patience in assembling the very rough manuscript for our Publisher.

Michelle Lane, a gifted artist whose wonderful creativity with the illustrations give a necessary dimension and excitement to the story.

My daughter Leah, who has generously shared her beloved dog Henri, one of the stars in the story you are about to read, with the author, who loves them both deeply. (You can see a real photo of Henri at the very end of the book.)

Mr. Joe Broadmeadow, a renowned author in his own right and the Publisher of JEBWizard Publishing. Joe’s instincts and courage have brought this book, by a heretofore unknown author, to you. A thank you to Joe seems insufficient.

I hope you do not dismiss this book as for kids only. The author knows you will be pleasantly surprised by this bear family and their new friends. Their story will hold your undivided attention, regardless of your age, during one amazing, adventure-filled night in their lives.

    Enjoy.

    EPILOGUE

People should stick together, but not spaghetti.

This little book, written to entertain young people and anyone young at heart, quietly imparts one of the most important messages.

In the author’s world, genuine heroes are the families and friends who stick together, who place unqualified love and the well-being of their family and friends above their own.

I extend special kudos to the many millions of single parents; you quietly do the impossible every day and make it look easy!

Christmas always arrives early for the Mountain Top Bear family. Mother and Father, along with Junior and Sis, begin their holiday activities of finding and eating lots of food early.

    Most humans know why.

Shortly after Thanksgiving, the Mountain Top Bear family takes a very long nap. The nap lasts until around the end of March. Humans call it hibernation. It surprises many people to learn other animals besides bears hibernate. For example, skunks, groundhogs, snakes, turtles, and bees all hibernate.

So, as winter approaches, the bears must find lots of extra food to eat. They need to put on many pounds of additional weight; because once they go to sleep and hibernate, they will not be eating again until Spring.

This year, things have been moving right along. Once Halloween was finally over—the bears were glad; they are not wild about the taste of pumpkins—it was time to get serious and find lots of food.

Besides the food they find in the forest—you know: nuts, apples, berries, tender leaves, and certain other kinds of foods found in the wild—this time of the year, the bears often visit humans’ homes for additional food, which the bear family in this book called goodies. The humans have another name
