    Introduction

Everything that God does is a process. The same is true with prayer. If we don’t know the process or use it in our prayers, how can our prayers be effective?

This book endeavors to uncover this process that has been hidden in the Bible for centuries. Once the process is understood and put into practice, prayers will accomplish their intended purpose. This is because we are not praying on our own, but activating The Holy Trinity and allowing the citizens of heaven to have an influential part in our prayer.

This process is a three-part approach that involves aligning yourself with God, structuring your prayers and petitions using a legal format, and presenting your prayers and petitions in the courts of heaven.

After reading this book, you will have the knowledge necessary to address each of these three areas; you will have practical examples as a template, which can be used for your own prayers and petitions; and you will obtain results in a new way.

    part 1

    Prayer

    WHAT IS PRAYER?

Prayer is a general term that can be simply defined as having direct communication with God. This type of interaction with God may be done verbally or in silent thought and may include making a confession or giving praise and worship.

    WHAT IS A PETITION?

A petition is a legal term defined as a formal written request to a court of law to legally act on someone’s behalf. (Pickett, Joseph P., Beth Anderson, Benjamin W. Fortson IV, Steven R. Kleinedler, Hanna Schonthal 2000)

    WHAT IS A PETITIONARY PRAYER?

Prayer may also include the requesting or petitioning to God to take action on our behalf. This is a specific type of prayer known as a Petitionary Prayer. It is important to distinguish the difference between a prayer and a prayer with a petition. Why? Because a prayer without a request or petition may be oral, but a Petitionary Prayer may need to be placed in writing if our petition is requesting God to take legal action on our behalf and the matter needs to go before the courts of heaven. How do we know if a Petitionary Prayer needs to be placed in writing? Consider, would your request require legal action on earth? If so, this would be a good indicator that your prayer to God should be in writing.

Most of our prayers contain both praises along with a petition. For example, we may have a prayer that goes something like this:

Heavenly Father, thank you for such a glorious day. The air is cool, the birds are singing, and the sun is warm on my face. You are indeed a wonderful God. Father God, I pray You would send rain so the crops may grow, and there would be a bountiful harvest.

In this prayer, it started out as a prayer of praise and thanksgiving along with worship for the Creator. At the end of this prayer, we make a transition into a petitionary prayer by requesting God to send rain to the land. However, for God to send rain to earth would generally not require legal action in the courts of heaven, and a written document would not be required. An example of a petition you may want to make as a written Petitionary Prayer to God is the salvation of another individual. In this case, it would strengthen your position to seek approval from the courts of heaven for God to act on your behalf against Satan for that individual’s soul.

In a court of law, written contracts and agreements will supersede and carry more weight than an oral agreement. When a petition is submitted to a court, a written determination will be made. A written determination allows all parties to know what decision has been rendered and can be better enforced by the legal authorities.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF PRAYERS?

There are many different types of prayers in the Bible. The most common types of prayers fall into one or more categories listed below. All prayers can be prayed to God by thought, verbally, or in writing. The most powerful prayers are those that employ all three areas of meditation of scripture, writing out your prayer and then speaking your prayer aloud. Speaking your prayers aloud is the most powerful and effective way to achieve results in your prayer life. Your words go into the atmosphere and reach God’s holy throne room. This is why the Bible has so much to say about our words and how important it is to keep our words positive and encouraging toward others. The prayer model would involve a process beginning with meditating on the word of God. This may include asking questions of God, either by thought or verbally and listening to His reply, organizing these thoughts into written form, and finally speaking the prayer aloud.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF PRAYER?

Prayer has multiple purposes. In general, the main purpose of prayer is to establish and maintain a personal relationship with God who created us. As in any relationship, if we want it to flourish and be healthy, we will need to keep the channels of communication open and honest with each other. For this reason alone, prayer becomes fundamentally important and an indispensable part in our daily lives.

Through prayer, we are acknowledging that there is someone greater than ourselves. We are admitting to ourselves and to God that we have limitations and are unable to provide for ourselves. Through prayer, we are admitting that God has no such limitations and is able to do all things. Don’t be deceived; even if you have a large bank account and retirement plan, it is God that gives you the breath of life and the strength to become wealthy. Without God, you would cease to exist.

    HOW SHOULD WE PRAY?

Learning how we should pray to God is the purpose of this book. Most of us have been taught how to pray and perhaps even given the wording for such prayers. While these prayers may assist us in what to say, God really wants to hear what is in your heart and your personal desires and needs. This does not come from a scripted message composed by someone who does not know what is taking place in your life; it comes from within each of us. The only scripted prayer I would encourage
