    Introduction

Before You begin 40 Days of Praise, I recommend thinking through what a good prayer life would look like for you. How would you measure success? Are you short on time and long on responsibilities? Where will you find this extra time to pray intentionally each day? Our Lord is a practical God, Who knows all about time. He injected minutes, hours, days and years into humanity so that we would be able to measure our achievements and consider our failures. He knows just how much earthly time it takes to develop new habits, and to break harmful ones.

And therefore, your own 40-day journey, should include some parameters on what you would consider as a satisfying prayer life. What success is to me, is not success to you. While I have a fulltime job, my children are grown. I do not have to prepare anyone’s breakfast, pack their lunches, or participate in a carpool. The first task for you, is finding time to pray. Ask God in prayer to suggest a good time. Remember, He’s the ultimate time management expert. He’s seen it all before and I’m sure there is a window in your day, reserved just for Your prayer. I’m excited because I know God longs to hear from you! Jesus told us in Matthew 22:37 to Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. I believe a solid, intentional prayer life is the first step in learning all about how to love Jesus.

While commuting to work is generally a popular time to listen to the radio, an audio book or your own play list, it may not always be the best place to pray. More than 114 million people drive alone in their cars to and from work each day. While I would love to think that each of them are praying, they are most likely distracted with worry about their families, finances, and jobs. In other words, they aren’t always focused on the drive. I would ask for you to have your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

We can pray during our lunch hour. But if you generally enjoy eating with your colleagues, I would encourage you to continue, because God also communicates through friendships, and angels unaware. If you work from home, there are often even more demands on your time because you don’t want to appear idle and you accept assignments that overwhelm you. In this case, take a prayer break in the afternoon, when the frustrations of the day
