About this ebook

God is calling mature women of faith to rise up and pray for the younger generations. Also, we need to tell them what we have learned about God and His wonders. This is our time to use the preparation we have experienced to lead the young army of God into battle as Deborah did with confidence.

    I give thanks to:

Kelly—who encouraged me to tell my story many years ago.

Suzi and Wendy—who have prayed for and believed in me to complete the vision of this book to the end.

My friends from my church in Dumfries,VA who prayed for me and inspired me during the start of the writing process. And also helped me through a difficult season of my life.

My three sisters who have cheered me on and who love Jesus so much!

My children who push their mom to stay busy, to never stop moving (physically), and to keep learning. They believe I will live to be very old.

My highest praise goes to Jesus—He was there giving words and ideas that flowed from my pen to the writing pad. He was my greatest encourager.

    Foreword

Deborah, Rise Up and Heed the Call

    Judges 4:8

Barak (Millennial Generation) said to her (older women), ‘If you go with me, then I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.’

    Judges 4:9 (NLT)

Very well, Deborah said, I will go with you.

    Judges 4:14

Then Deborah said to Barak, ‘Go, this is the day the Lord has given Sisera (the enemy) into your hands. Has not the Lord gone ahead of you?’ (She knew the times to encourage and release the Millennial Generation and the one after.)

    Judges 4:23-24

On that day God subdued Jabin, the Canaanite king, before the Israelites. And the hand of the Israelites grew stronger and stronger against Jabin, the Canaanite king, until they destroyed him. (The mighty army of God can subdue the enemies of the next generations.)

    Introduction

Never before in my many years of following Jesus, have I heard such a cry for mature women to rise up and fulfill their callings to reach the younger generations. The Millennial generation needs the mothers and fathers of the church to help them to become leaders who will bring the message of Jesus to the entire world.

This is my story of hearing the Call, Are you willing to be like Deborah? I heard this call in 1996 when very few in the church were talking about this idea. Over the past 23 years, the Lord has been unfolding His plan. My passion has grown, and I am ready to be released to whatever the Lord shows me to do. A great part of my journey has been preparing for the right time.

The Millennial generation (born between 1982-2002) contains the largest population of any other generation, ever. They will eventually be in the forefront, making decisions for our nation and the world. I want to see these techno-savvy, well-educated, volunteer-oriented, and family-connected young adults lead the world for Jesus. That vision will take God’s miracle-working power.

God is calling the mature women to rise up and pray, and to,

Tell that which we have heard and known what our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praise worthy deeds of the Lord, His powers and the wonders He has done. Then they would put their trust in God and not forget His deeds but would keep His commands.

    Psalm 78: 3-4; 7

I believe we have been given a mandate to do this. Have you told the young people you know about great people from the past who walked under God’s anointing?

Many Millennials don’t believe they can do great things for God. They live in an uncertain world and focus on survival and not on the great heights they could climb with God. Find your place in this work. In Isaiah 32:9-20, God warns complacent women to rise up and listen to Him. He tells them that if they think they are secure, they are not, and their fields will fail. Also, if they don’t rise up there will be no fruit.

All of you can find people in your churches, jobs, neighborhoods, hospitals, and wherever God opens opportunities for you. This is your hour. Prepare—seek the Lord and determine what to do, then motivate yourself. Don’t let the opportunity pass you by, no matter what your age.

As you read my story, perhaps you would find elements of yourself on the path the Lord required me to walk. Look back in your past and you will find that all the years of prayer, every trial, every wilderness, all the uncertainties, day-to-day experiences, and certainly all the victories were placed there by the Lord to make you stronger for Him. We, the laborers in the harvest field, will receive supernatural strength and ability to call the millennial generation into action. Deborah, rise up and break out in song!

    The Call

    August 1996

During a quiet evening at our storefront church in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, I was alone because my husband, Tom, had returned to the states to share about the Ministry to the Military with some churches. We didn’t have a traditional church to worship in, so we held services in a former restaurant. We built an area for the pulpit, piano, and a few chairs. That night, I went to sit in that area to pray and worship the Lord for a while. Next, I became very quiet and was listening to hear the Holy Spirit. I heard these words, Would you be willing to be like Deborah? I thought to myself that I didn’t know much about Deborah except that she was a judge in Israel and had helped lead an army to victory.

I went to read Judges 4 and 5 to understand more. I connected with a few characteristics of Deborah right away. She was a singer and
