Satan's Failed Plan - Dr. Johnny Woodard DD
Foreword
I once read about a sweet old grandmother who was being honored for over 50 years of faithful attendance to her little country church. Upon the pastor presenting her the nice certificate, he commented that she was such an optimistic person that she could probably find something good to say about the devil himself. Sure,
she stated, He is always faithful.
So, it is with Satan; he has been faithful through the ages to carry out his plan to be worshipped as God. This book tells of his plan from his beginning to rob God of the glory that He alone deserves. But, praises be to God, his plan will end in utter failure, as he and all his followers will be cast into the Lake Of Fire.
Please note that all scripture references in this book are from the KJV Bible.
Chapter One
Satan’s Beginning
John 1:3 All things were made by him, and without him was not anything made that was made.
We need never to forget that God is the creator of all things, including Satan and his followers. One of the fascinating things about God is that He has always been in existence. Everything in our realm deals with a time that has a beginning and an end. Not so with God, He has always been in existence. The Bible does not give us a time frame at what point in time Satan was created, but two books in the Old Testament gives us insight into his beginning.
Ezekiel 28:12-17
12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. 13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
16 By the multitude of thy merchandise, they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17 Thine heart was lifted because of thy beauty; thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
The words recorded in Ezekiel 28 are spoken against the King Of Tyre, who God condemned. God is also speaking to Satan himself and speaks of his fall from fellowship with God. We must understand that at times, Satan can influence a person that God will address that person as Satan himself.
Remember the words of Jesus to the Apostle Peter in Matthew 16:21-23 after He had questioned His disciples as to who did other people believe He was. Some said that He was John the Baptist; others said He was Elias, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. Jesus then spoke directly to Peter and asked him who he thought He was, and Peter didn’t hesitate to tell Jesus that He was the Son Of God. Jesus told Peter that upon that rock, He would build His church. I will deal with the rock and the gates of Hell in a later chapter, but for now, we will deal with how Jesus later referred to Peter as Satan himself. A little later, Jesus began to explain to His disciples that He was going to die on the cross. This brought a strong reaction from Peter.
Matthew 16:21-23
21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day again.
22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offense unto me: for thou savourest, not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
Notice that Jesus referred to Peter as Satan and that he was an offense to Him. What we need to understand is that Satan can take possession of a believer’s mind, but not his soul. In the Book Of James, it states that the soul of a person is saved at the point of salvation, not the body.
James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
Let’s look at another statement that many say is different than what God’s Word teaches. I have always heard or read that everybody has a soul, referring to a living person. I believe it is just the opposite. Every soul has a body.
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.
Notice that the body was created first, and only until the breath of life was breathed into him did he become a living soul. It is easy to see that God created Adam’s body as the dwelling place for his soul. For anyone to move into a house, the house has to be built first, only then can one take up residence in it. We know that man’s body returns to the dust from whence it came at death, but the immortal soul spends eternity either with God in Glory, or Satan and all his followers in Hell.
Another passage of scripture that refers to Satan’s beginning is found in Isaiah 14:12-14.
Isaiah 14:12-14
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven; I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will also sit upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
This portion of Scripture was directed against one of the Old Testament kings of Babylon that were so evil that God compared him to the devil himself.
From the information given about Satan in Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14, the following can be stated about Satan's origin.
1. Satan began as an angel of God, a good angel, a cherub.
2. Satan was created perfect in all his ways.
3. Satan allowed pride to fill his heart, which caused him to rebel against God, and he sought to take the place of God.
4. Satan was expelled from Heaven after a great battle and cast to earth.
5. Other angels followed Satan in his rebellion and were also cast out of Heaven.
6. Satan wages war against God and his children.
Job 38:4-7
4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding.
5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? Or who hath stretched the line upon it?
6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? Or who laid the cornerstone thereof;
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
In the preceding scriptures, God is speaking to Job and is referring to what was taking place long before Job was born. God refers to the morning stars singing together. One lesson I have learned in studying God’s Word is that, especially in the Old Testament, God used figurative language in many places. We know that literal stars do not sing. The Book Of Revelation uses the same figurative language as the Old Testament because the words recorded in Revelation are the very words Jesus told John to write down.
Bible history teaches that the Apostle John had been banished to the Isle Of Patmos after he had survived being dipped in a vat of boiling oil. While there, he was instructed by the Lord to pen the words of what we now have as the Book Of Revelation.
Revelation 1:10-18
10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and Philadelphia, and Laodicea.
12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;
13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and
