Sue Robin is a poet who lives in the hills of Los Angeles watching the hawks soar and the world spin round. She retired from a long, satisfying career as a Marriage Family Therapist in 2012. Retirement has allowed more time to write and murmur with her friends. The love for her family is a constant thrum in the background of all she does.

A Modicum of Solace - Sue Robin
A Bit of Ugliness
To read the news on a daily basis makes us all like Sisyphus
We no sooner hear good cheer when an onslaught of world ills assaults us
Murder, rape, drugs, wars in distant lands and the congressional ones
Archbishops who protect pedophiles instead of children
Wonder what the world would be like if all that was printed was good news?
Would that spawn more good news?
Gifted child sings arias at 10 years of age!
Doctor reports that Mrs. Smith is cancer free!
Neighbors join to clear trash and plant trees!
Good Samaritan rescues family from burning home!
The ultimate newspaper would contain 90% good news
A crossword puzzle, comics, and buried deep inside a bit of ugliness
One needs the bleak to appreciate the blessings

In the Name of God and Allah
We read
We watch
We feel
Each death, each lost limb
The explosions
The hate
Murders and bombs
Countries torn apart
Cities decimated
Families bereft
Little ones, aged ones
Covered in blood
All in the name of God and Allah

Left, Right and Center
Left, right and center
The greatest country in the world has slipped
We are still first in something
The number of incarcerated citizens
What is wrong with this picture?
Liberals blame conservatives and
They return the favor
No longer are there conversations, or consensus
No longer is there real news for the masses
Murders and car chases, celebs and sports fill the airwaves
People watch reality tv
rather than be real in their own lives
American movies have become remakes of remakes
Politicians look to save their jobs, not the country
And I cry

Who Let the Dogs Out?
