    Laff Therapy - Karlton Johnson

    Introduction

This is a self-help book that will teach you about the psychological and physiological benefits of Laff Therapy, quick, fast and in a hurry without having to decipher through pages of psychological terminologies of how the brain works. This technique which you are about to learn may seem like a new concept but in actuality it’s an old practice that dates back to beginning of time. In the Bible it even say’s to make a joyful noise unto the LORD. I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen anyone who was in a state of joyfulness, that wasn’t smiling, laffing or happy. It’s synonymous that if you’re laffing you’re having a good time, which means you’re in a good mood or you’re just good at faking emotions. Patch Adams was a movie starring the late Robin Williams which addressed the benefits of laffter as a healing medicine. Norman Cousins also believed in the healing power of laffter. Dr. William Fry, a Psychotherapist at Stanford University also mapped out some of the physiological effects of laffter. His works as well as many others suggest that laffter is a good medicine after all.

Dr. Fry’s work suggests that laffter is beneficial to a person’s heart and lungs. Belly laffs actually change the body’s circumference, as the abdominal muscles join in the contraction. In the workout world this is known as working your abs. Charles Darwin also understood the power of laffter and he studied laffter, primarily the expression of joy and the invoking of ludicrous ideas to produce laffter. He studied movements of the body features during laffter. He studied the nature of the sound produced as well as the secretion of tears during loud laffter.

With being a Comedian I am no stranger to the power of laffter and how it can be used to help deal with rejection. When a joke gets no laff’s and your standing there with a microphone in your hand and silence fills the room. You find out quick, fast and in a hurry that you’ve just been reject. In my early twenties I was making my living as a Comedian. As disco clubs faded away comedy clubs began to flourish. I soon begin to tour and was always looking for my next gig as we called them. Needless to say, I got told no on a lot of audition. I often sleep in my car or on any couch, chair or floor that was afforded to me as I toured around the country perfecting my craft and auditioning for gigs.

With the help of a cousin I later moved to LA to pursue the acting career that I’d dreamed of. Through rejection after rejection and then more rejection. I learned how to harness the healing power of laffter and I soon begin using laffter to help cancer patients. This was the start of Laff Therapy for me. This is when I realized that what you see on a person’s outside may not be really reflective of how they feel on the inside or how things are really going for them mentally. That’s when I discovered the difference between physical and mental health. Take me for an example, when you look at me from the outside things look.

I’ve written for radio and Television personalities and I’ve appeared in shows like The Closer, Cold Case, The Millers, The Shield and the movie Super Hero just to name a few. I’ve also appeared in over 50 commercials done a few music videos and some voice overs. You would think with a career like the one I just described to you that I would be a happy and financially well to do guy.
