    ENTREPRENEURSHIP - Jacinta Arcadia VonPrussia

    Preface

After 30 years of entrepreneurship, I survived twelve years of that in Europe, which led me to write this book, hence the title How to Fail. Areas I want to cover take you from the beginning of the adventure to where I am now, at the end producing a companion book to accompany my hard work – something to show for my entrepreneurship!

People, situations, organisations, dilemmas, conundrums to alternate realities I stepped into and each chance to say STOP, NO, CONTINUE or YES. I will explore what choices I made and the eventual outcomes as a personal guide on how to avoid my failure.

It isn’t easy to take this risk and write truthfully about the disasters and chaos I attracted on this journey. It’s a risk because it isn’t very fashionable to be highlighting the harm and the catastrophic falls I endured, trying to piece together an idea beside an invention.

It isn’t the government regulations and soul-destroying paperwork which buries the entrepreneur – it is the unseen life events other people place you in which sabotages the beauty of creating, critical thinking and the energy you need to keep positive and focused.

In my journey you will come face to face with horrible reality checks, broken bones, homelessness to the dangers of going it alone! As much as I really want to sugar-coat the presentation of my story, I can’t cloak it in humor or glitz it up in glamour as it’s a book on How to Fail not How to Cover Up the Failure!

A note to survivors of entrepreneurship, surrounded by old clothes, suitcases, broken laptop, old-model phone and enough money to pay the rent and eat – making it out alive and sane is the most you can expect from the adventure to make your dreams come true.

    CHAPTER 1

    Early Entrepreneurialism Hexen-Amaranthus to VonPrussia

Iknew I wanted to write and sing from an early age. I was always singing and typing something up, pretending to be publishing something. What I really wanted as I grew older was a publishing house and record label – to be the ultimate multimedia production house. So, I registered the business name Hexen for Witchery and Amaranthus for Purple, which is the meaning of Jacinta.

But I ended up recording songs more as I got older and my writing went into stage shows, little self-made productions all based on my poetry. The opportunities to perform were few in Melbourne, so you had to create your own event to get the show underway. I would rehearse segments by performing at nearby poetry slam contests or open mic nights in Melbourne, St. Kilda and Fitzroy.

I always had the conviction I was right to be working part-time on my art. I was driven to perform each new piece and prepare costumes and publicity posters. I loved the excitement and the thrill of presenting each finished piece, getting radio airplay and I couldn’t be happier except for raising very little revenue.

I wanted to tour my stage show and applied for arts grants endlessly it seemed, but I couldn’t attract the funds. Record labels showed some interest if the songs could be better recorded and mastered, but
