    Jonah - Katheryn Maddox Haddad

    1 ~ Adviser to a King

Jonah packed an extra robe and some food in a basket. He put the basket on his back for the trip from his home in Gath Hepher.

The Kingdom of the Isra-el-ites split after Solomon’s death. The northern half of the kingdom had its own palace and temple and king in the city of Samaria, not Jerusalem.

The 35-mile walk to the palace at Samaria would take him 2 or 3 days. He didn’t need a tent to sleep under on the road. He thought people who slept in tents while traveling needed to toughen up and quit being crybabies.

Now, well on his way, Jonah walked past the hill on which the village of Naz-a-reth was located and wondered why anyone would want to live there.

Once he got to Nain in the foothills of Mount Tabor, he stopped and ate some cheese and olives and took another swig from his water skin.

The sun was still fairly bright, so he walked another hour and stopped.

I wonder what the king wants, he thought as he picked a place by a roadside well to stretch out and go to sleep.

He sure got in a mess when he became king of Isra-el. How long is the King of Syria going to make him pay tax money to him?

The minute Jonah laid his head down on his basket, using it as a pillow, he was asleep.

The next morning, he was jarred awake by a foot in his side.

Hey, get out of our way.  You do not own that well. Move!

Jonah got up, refilled his water skin, splashed some water on his face to help him finish waking up, and dug out some bread from his basket for his breakfast.

When Jonah arrived at the palace late that afternoon, he was taken to a special guest room for prophets and men of God.

He looked around and noticed a statue to a pretend god he did not know about. He picked it up and threw it at the wall where it broke.

He has to stop worshiping pretend gods!  The only true God will not always bless us.

2 hours later, Jonah was taken to the throne room.

    I need your advice, Jonah,
