    Inspired by a book she discovered at a thrift shop, Having It All by Helen Gurley Brown, Lena Dunham shares some of her most defining moments in an effort to understand their impact on her life and to help others who encounter similar situations and challenges. Her journey begins with an exploration of the impact of love and sex on her young life. An anxious homebody, Dunham had little experience with the opposite sex throughout middle and high school. In college, she began to feel that she was in the minority as a virgin and set a goal to remedy the situation. In the end, she decided that she had not missed much.

    Dunham is aware that caring for the body is also an important part of living a happy life. She credits her artistic and open-minded mother for her ability to accept and publicly share her body through her television show, Girls. Her experiences with obsessive dieting did not help her lose weight and made her sick, so she decided to get off the dieting roller-coaster. After years of struggling with irregular and painful periods, she went to the doctor for some tests and was diagnosed with endometriosis.
