    Book Overview

The Husband’s Secret, by Liane Moriarty, is three stories in one. Cecilia is a middle-aged mother of three daughters. She is married to one of the well-known, wealthy Fitzpatrick boys, and to any outsider seems to have the perfect life. While searching for a piece of the Berlin Wall for her daughter, she finds a letter with her name and a short note on the front of the envelope. The note says the envelope is to be opened only in the event of her husband’s death. Cecilia is intrigued and becomes obsessed with the letter, especially when her husband begins acting strange when she asks him about it. Cecilia opens the letter and finds out that her husband killed a local girl twenty-eight years earlier. He asks her to tell the girl’s mother that it was an accident and that he is very sorry. Cecilia’s life spins out of control with this new knowledge. Her budding relationship with the dead girls’ mother increases her guilt, and her trust of who she thought her husband really was is destroyed.

Rachel Crowley is a school secretary at St. Angela’s Catholic school in Sydney, Australia. Twenty- eight years ago, Rachel’s teenage daughter, Janie, was murdered. Her killer was never found. Rachel has spent the years since her daughter’s death grieving and keeping others at a distance. She has even isolated her son, Rob, and his seemingly perfect wife, Lauren. Rachel resents Lauren mostly because she is alive, and Janie is not. She is angry when Rob and Lauren tell her that they are moving to the United States for a job opportunity for Lauren. She cannot believe that they are taking her grandson, Jacob, away from her. Rachel believes that Connor Whitby, the PE teacher at St. Angela’s, murdered her daughter. She knows that he was the last person to see Janie alive, and she finds a video in which he has a drastic change in mood before turning off the camera. Unfortunately, the police do not see the video as compelling enough to question Connor again.

Tess and Felicity have been close all of their lives. Their mothers are twins, and the girls grew up like sisters. The two moved to Melbourne where Tess met Will, her husband. The three start a marketing business together. The business is just taking off when Felicity and Will tell Tess that they have fallen in love. Tess takes her son, Liam, and goes to her mother’s in Sydney. She enrolls Liam at St. Angela’s Catholic School and meets
