About this ebook

Why did God make anything? What is His purpose? Was He lonely? Was He bored? Just why did God make anything?

Dr. Thiel uses verses from the Bible to show why God created. God has a plan. But just what that plan is is a mystery to the vast majority of humanity. There is no confusing exegesis or philosophical mumbo jumbo in this booklet. Dr. Thiel let’s God’s own Word, the Bible, explain His plan clearly to all who have ears that want to hear.

Dr. Thiel wastes no time explaining some mysteries and starts right off in Chapter 1 discussing, from a Biblical perspective, the mystery of God’s plan.

Why did God allow Lucifer to rebel only to become Satan the Adversary? Why did God create humans? Just what is “truth”? What are the mysteries of Rest and Sin? Before reading this booklet, I wasn’t even aware of a mystery of rest and sin. But I came to understand that I never really gave it a lot of thought. After thinking about it I asked myself, “just why is there sin” and “what really is the purpose of rest”, then I had to admit that those were mysteries to me as well. I stress, they were mysteries, after reading this booklet, they are no longer.

Here’s a mystery question for you. Why did God make mankind male and female? In one way the answer may seem obvious. We were made male and female in order to reproduce. Well and good. But the question remains – Why? Why did God want us to reproduce? The real answer, directly from the Bible, with no spin, is truly mind blowing!

Why does God allow suffering? It would seem that is also a mystery. Do you have an answer? In Chapter 2 Dr. Thiel begins to provide God's answer for suffering direct from the Bible.

What about babies and little children? Why were some of them born only to suffer and die? What was the purpose? Will they ever have the opportunity to know God? In Chapter 4 of this book God's comfort and assurance is revealed through the scriptures quoted.

But perhaps the most important question posed by the book is - Why did God make you? What is your purpose in life? Do you even have a purpose? Certainly, if there is no God, there is no purpose. Without a true God we are all just death waiting to happen. Then nothingness.

However, there is a God. God's existence does not depend on whether or not we believe in Him. Dr. Thiel shows us what God has in store for each and every human being ever conceived. We do have a purpose. God reveals that He has a very specific and unique purpose for each and every one of the untold billions of those Elohim created in their own image and likeness.

Dr. Thiel quotes the scriptures that God revealed to show us the reason He created us. Whatever your background, God has a plan for you, individually. You too, are made in His image and likeness. You too, are one of His children. You too, are greatly loved.

If you are struggling to find a purpose in life, or know someone who is; if you are struggling with depression, or know someone who is; if you are feeling lonely and down and out, or know someone who is; if you just want a better understanding of why you were born, or know someone who does, read this book. It's going to help. This book is going to show you why you were born. This book is going to show you your purpose in life.

God does have a plan. He reveals that plan in the Holy scriptures and Dr. Thiel has put those scriptures together for us in this book. You are part of the plan. In fact, as you begin to read through this book you begin to understand that you, yes you, are the goal of the plan.

    1. God’s Plan is a Mystery to Most

    The Bible teaches:

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1, NKJV throughout unless otherwise indicated)

    But why?

What is the meaning of life?

Throughout the ages people have wondered if there is a purpose being worked out on the earth.

And if there is, what is it?

Presuming there is a God, why did He make anything?

Why did God create humans? Why did God make you?

Does your life have any purpose?

Different cultures and different religions have their views. But are they consistent with the Bible?

    What is the truth?

Part of the truth is that God’s plan is a mystery to most. Notice something that the Bible teaches about that:

25 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began 26 but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith — 27 to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen. (Romans 16:25-27)

The Bible tells of the mystery which has been kept secret since the world began, but that it is revealed in prophetic scriptures—the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15; James 1:18).

The Bible refers to many mysteries, such as the mystery of the kingdom of God (Mark 4:11), the mystery of grace (Ephesians 3:1-5), the mystery of faith (1 Timothy 3:9), the mystery of the marriage relationship (Ephesians 5:28-33), the mystery of lawlessness (2 Thessalonians 2:7), the mystery of the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:51-54), the mystery of Christ (Ephesians 3:4) the mystery of the Father (Colossians 2:2), the mystery of God (Colossians 2:2; Revelation 10:7) and even Mystery Babylon the Great (Revelation 17:5). This book is written, for those interested in the truth, that they may have all the riches that assurance brings in their understanding of the knowledge of the mystery of God (Colossians 2:2, NET).

Although this may come as a surprise to many, the three writers of the synoptic Gospels all recorded that Jesus did not speak in parables so that people would better understand. They recorded that Jesus said He spoke in parables to keep mysteries of the Kingdom of God unknown for many (Matthew 13:11; Mark 4:11-12; Luke 8:10) in this age.

The Apostle Paul wrote that faithful ministers are the stewards of the mysteries of God (1 Corinthians 4:1; cf. 13:2) who are to be speaking the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).

Are you interested in knowing more about many of the mysteries that the Bible tells of?

Do you want to know why God made anything?

Would you like to know why God made you?

Yes, many have their own ideas.

Is there a way for YOU to really know?

Those who are willing to believe the Bible over human traditions can know.

However, since many of even the most basic aspects of God’s plan are a mystery to most, please take the time to read the entire book, and as you wish, to look up some of the scriptures that are just cited (as opposed to being fully quoted) for even more clarification.

The mysteries can be made known by understanding the prophetic scriptures for those obedient in faith.

Yet they have not been made known to all in this age, only to those now called:

11 … To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables (Mark 4:11)

25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. (Romans 11:25)

7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, (1 Corinthians 2:7)

Hundreds of scriptures reveal God's plan of salvation. Both are available online at www.ccog.org.

    The Apostle Paul wrote:

8 To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ; 10 to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places, 11 according to the eternal purpose which He accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him. (Ephesians 3:8-12)

25 … I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, 26 the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. 27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:25-27)

There are many riches that are unsearchable without the word of God. These are essentially biblical mysteries that have long been hidden.

In the 2nd century, Bishop/Pastor Polycarp of Smyrna wrote of the prophetic mystery of the coming of Christ (Polycarp, Fragments from Victor of Capua. Translated by Stephen C. Carlson, 2006; details about mysteries concerning His coming can be found in the free online book, available at www.ccog.org, titled: Proof Jesus is the Messiah).

Also, in the 2nd century, Bishops/Pastors Ignatius and Melito wrote that the ministry understood about various scriptural mysteries (e.g. Ignatius’ Epistle to the Ephesians; Melito’s Homily on the Passover).

Jesus and the Apostles explained some of these mysteries to those who became early Christians. We in the Continuing Church of God strive to do that now for those who are willing to look.

    The Nature of God

Understanding a bit about the nature of God will help us better understand the mysteries of His plan.

The Bible teaches God is love (1 John 4:16), God is Spirit (John 4:24), Yahweh is good (Nahum 1:7, World English Bible), all-powerful (Jeremiah 32:17,27), all-knowing (Isaiah 46:9-10), and that He is eternal (Isaiah 57:15).

    The Apostle Paul wrote:

7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, 10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are
