book was chosen in thinking of the following Bible verses."

John 4:13-14 (Jesus speaking) Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

Isaiah 55:1a "Come, all you are thirsty; come to the waters….

Revelation 21:6 He said to me: It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life".

Revelation 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, Come! And let the one who hears say, Come! Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

    ow can we know

God? He must reveal Himself to us and He will as we believe and accept that revelation. John 14:21 He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me; and he that loves me will be loved by my Father: and I will love him and will manifest myself to him. As we trust and walk with Him, God will reveal Himself to us. God is not a stern master standing over us, waiting for us to make a wrong move so He can punish us. The Bible tells us His commandments are not grievous. 1 John 5:3: For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not grievous. His commandments, His leading is for our benefit. God knows what is best for us and what will make our life the very best it can be as we walk with Him and in obedience to Him.

We are told in John 1:18 No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, Who is in the bosom of the Father; He has declared Him. John 14:9 He that has seen me has seen the Father. From the cradle to the grave, Jesus revealed God by who He was, what He did, and what He said. Colossians 2:9: For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead. 2nd Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, Who is the image of God, should shine unto them. Verse 6: For God, Who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

To know God, we look to Christ. We study His way, His life. As we study Him, we see God. Look in the face of Jesus and see God Who says: Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, nor yet for your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than meat, and body more than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take you thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not; neither do they spin; And I say unto you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass in the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall He not much more clothe you; o ye of little faith? (Matthew 6:25-30). Matthew 11:27 All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father; and no one knows the Father except the Son, and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. Now we know that Jesus will reveal God to any who turn to Him in repentance and faith per John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER (emphasis mine) believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Again, His promise in John 14:21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he is the one who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest (make known) myself to Him.

We also come to know God in much the same way we come to know another person. We come to know another person by spending time with them; by walking with them and conversing with them. This is also one of the ways we come to know our great and glorious God. We need to spend time with Him in prayer; in His Word; and walking in obedience to Him and that Word. In doing this, we come to know Him more and more.

Jesus came to save sinners, not good people, if there really were any. Unless we realize our unworthiness, we won’t recognize our need for a Savior. That’s why the Bible tells us that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Which, of course, means all of us need a Savior. There is no better life than a life lived in obedience and fellowship to and with Him. But we must come in humility, confessing our sin and seeking His forgiveness and salvation through Jesus Christ.

For the son of man came to seek and to save the lost. (Luke 19:10) Here in these verses, we learn that God is love. His love is manifested to us through the giving of His Son and through the Son giving Himself and paying the penalty for our sins.

Once we become His child, we are told in Hebrews 13:5 that He will never leave nor forsake us. That should give us great comfort. How can we receive that comfort and grow in it? It comes in and through the Holy Spirit Who resides in us through faith in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit will bring to our mind words of comfort from the Bible as and when needed. But we must be well versed in that Word, sensitive and obedient to same for this to happen. We can look to God and His Word for comfort and encouragement when needed, or we can listen to the voice of discouragement and despair. We see this sometimes in a child whose feelings are hurt, or when he or she doesn’t get their own way. They want to just sit and sulk in their own misery. Sadly, sometimes we see adults acting the same way – refusing to be comforted. They seemingly bask in their misery and want pity and attention from others. When we do this, we’re displeasing to God and wallowing in our own distress.

Comfort, as so many other things, comes to us after faith in God and His Word. We believe and then ‘feel’ – not ‘feel’ and then believe. For instance, take the scripture in Matthew 6 speaking of how God will take care of us and all our needs. Are we truly comforted by these words? Do we really believe it? Or is our trust in our bank account or our job? Do we forget that the ravens fed Elijah in 1 Kings 17:6? (God speaking to Elijah) Get thee hence, and turn eastward, and hide thyself by the brook, Cherith, that is before Jordan. And it shall be you shall drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there. Scripture goes on to tell us that the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning and bread and flesh in the evening and he drank of the brook. As always, God will supply all our needs just as stated in
