Text: Act 7:59: And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit (KJV)

Stephen was one of the seven chosen in chapter 6 and bible says he was full of faith and power; he did great wonders and miracles among the people. It was some of this same people that seized him, cast him out of the city and stoned him. One would have thought that since he was full of faith and power, and with all the miracles he had done, he should have been able to apply his faith and power to the situation but instead, what was his response? V 59 says, And he called upon God saying, Lord receive my spirit. What a coward way of ending his journey! He didn't call upon God to deliver him, he didn't put his faith and power to work but instead, he surrendered to defeat. The same applied to Samson in the Old Testament after he loosed his power to a harlot and being mocked by the people, he requested to die with them. So also was Elijah after he slew the prophets of Baal, and prayed for abundance of rain, only for him to be threatened by Jezebel and he forgot all those wonderful works but requested for himself that he might die, that he is not better than his fathers. The fear of Jezebel overshadowed his faith in God. Contrary to these, bible told of a king in the Old Testament who after being told that he will die, went to God in prayers and supplication and many more years were added to him. No wonder bible says, as you have said to my ears, so will I do. Many of us, either consciously or unconsciously confess negative things about ourselves forgetting that is what we say that will come to pass. An example is someone in a bus that is about to have accident and instead of declaring "I will not
