Grouper had his own way of gathering information. The word on the street. And what did that mean? The rumour was always right. Time and again it had proven itself. And so what was the rumour?

Herc was being courted by the Ministry of Information. Imagine? They were trying to steal his golden boy. Worse yet. Herc had indeed signed on. Grouper was certain. In exchange for what? He could feel his new protégé slipping away. What had the Ministry promised Herc? Information naturally. But what did Herc want?

What information did Herc need? Grouper thought. Hayes. Of course. Herc was arranging a reunion. Had Grouper underestimated Herc? Like Hayes. What if Herc was actually homosexual? Like Hayes. Despite the eradication. There existed such anomalies. Like Hayes. Quynn was another. Like the Ministry. But that was something entirely different. One didn't want to talk about it.
