The One With Delirium - N. WS. Jokela

    Introduction

    Hello there!

I hope you are well, reader. This book collects 27 out of 34 stories that I wrote in July 2017 for Flash Fiction Month 2017. That year, my personal challenge was using each of the optional themes, which heavily guided what kinds of things I wrote. While these stories are certainly better than the 2016 ones, they are meh at best. Nevertheless, good things are ahead, so I hope that you will stick around for the next collections which I dare say are actually good.

    In any case, good reading!

    3: No Reply

    Optional theme: Communication.

I stare at the screen. The text has frozen. Nothing comes as a reply.

Nah, maybe she just lost connection, I mutter and go to get another cup of coffee. When I come back, there's still nothing. I move my cursor, move on the page, choose a different window and open another tab to see that everything's okay on my end. It seems to be. But there's no reply.

Nah, perhaps she just had to go and help her parents or something all of a sudden, I mutter and go to watch YouTube videos. LinusTechTips seems to be doing something really stupid with a thing called plasti-dip.

Half an hour passes. There's still no reply coming. I send another message, wondering if she just missed it.

Another half an hour, now with LobosJr's insanely difficult Dark Souls challenges. No reply.

I close the window. What the hell went wrong?

    5: Influential

    Optional theme: Influence.

It pulls you towards itself with a force you can't defy. It is too strong for you. It's too strong for a planet, so what makes you, pathetic human, think that you could defy it?

Come on, tell me. What makes you think you can defy a force like this? Why would you possibly think it's possible?

Fools. You have no idea what you are dealing with.

    6: Party Detective

Challenge: Write a story about a real event from any point in time in the style of Gonzo Journalism, which includes first person narration that's oozing with personal observations and characterization, details and the fact that facts can be fluid, and the wordcount must be a Cuban Prime (in this case 61, 127, 271, 331, 397, 547, 631, or 919).

I didn't notice the noise made by over a hundred students, but hells, I did notice two girls of the organizing year sneaking away from the party. They had to be off to do something prohibited. Maybe to smoke? Come on, why do you underage people do that? You just lose your money and ruin your health, idiots!

I followed them to the adjacent gymnasium.
