The Power of Self Discipline - KWOK KWONG LAU

My friend Kevin is one among the neatest people i do know , handily . Nobody even comes close.

I visited a reasonably good, highly ranked university in California. In my close circle of friends, Kevin outshone everybody else. It's as if he can find out complicated math equations at the rear of his head.

In fact, one time, we were talking about the Heisenberg indeterminacy principle while eating pizza. There i used to be , completely stumped about this theory, and my friend Kevin broke it down in between bites of a slice pizza. That's how brilliant he was and still is.

Kevin was so sharp that he only needed to point out up in school once, which is to require roll in order that the professor doesn't drop him on the primary day, and he’d refuse to travel to the category ever again. When exam time rolls around, you'll calculate Kevin to urge a minimum of an A. He did this like clockwork.

In fact, in many cases, he got awards and honors and he didn't even need to show up for the lectures.

I remember laughing when he asked me for any notes that I had for a category he completely ditched. i used to be laughing because i assumed that he was just wasting his time. How can this guy ever pass, much less get an A, when he didn't even bother to point out up?

Boy, was I surprised when the guy got better grades than I did. And he didn't cheat. That's how talented Kevin was and still is.

But Kevin, a bit like most of the people , features a weakness. We all have our own peculiar and particular shortcoming. It comes with the territory. Kevin is not any exception.

His problem was self-discipline. He had a Ferrari engine, but he didn't want to drive it during a disciplined, methodical and systematic way.

    ––––––––

Now, he's twice divorced, living in an apartment whose rent he could barely afford, and constantly drinking his problems away.

When I believe the lifetime of my friend Kevin, I not only specialise in the missed opportunities for career advancement and accomplishments that he's otherwise capable of achieving, I also believe the remainder folks . i feel about how we omitted because he didn't get his act together to completely unlock his potential therefore the remainder of society may benefit from his genius.

Kevin could are subsequent dotcom billionaire. He could are subsequent Web 2.0 genius that revolutionized technology. But there he's , within the San Francisco Bay Area, struggling to urge by on what essentially may be a wage .

What's going on? How can somebody with such a lot potential find yourself with so little?

It seems that self-discipline isn't a neat little trait that we will prefer to have. it's THE trait for ultimate success. Without self-discipline, everything else falls apart.

You may not be the sharpest tool within the shed, and that’s okay. As long as you're self-disciplined enough to work out what you would like to find out so you'll achieve a touch bit more tomorrow, eventually, you will get there.

    Self-discipline is
