The best thing is not to give me any presents. To make ashrams and make meditation centres will be much better.

ASHRAM: SYMBOL OF AN IDEAL WORLD

The words in this book were collected from the recorded talks and advice given by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi between 1973 and 1997. A full list of sources can be found at the end of the book. Some small words have been added for the sake of clarity and some repetition and words spoken aside have been removed. Such gentle editing has been done to aid comprehension and in the knowledge that the spoken language often differs in slight ways from that which is written.

You have to take very few things. You should be able to live with two or three clothes in an ashram. An ashram is a place where you are trained to be temperate, where you are trained how to control your senses and how to control your attention.

    ASHRAM is a world

We have ashrams and ashrams and ashrams everywhere. The ashram is a small world, which is a symbol of an ideal world of enlightened people. It is not that it is only for those who are having no house. It is meant for people who are of quality. In the ashram, one has to realize that you are under complete observation. You have to be alert. Somebody is watching you. Now you have come in the camera. You are now in the ashram.

    THE IDEA OF ASHRAMS

The idea of ashrams has been spoiled. When you go there, you have got an air-conditioned room with a big bathroom attached where you can sleep the whole day. But it is not like that. You have to learn to be detached and a little self-sufficient, not to depend on other things to give you comfort. Your own spirit should give you
